Do I need to dry/cure if I will be making butter with my harvest?

Outstanding looking buds sir, good job! If you go ahead and trim off the larger stem parts from the picture you will cut your dry/cure time in half. That is where a lot of the moisture resides and removing those stems will get the job done quicker. I'm not familiar with the butter process so...

Flowering (when is day one. The first day you flip)

Right you are. Over the years I have experimented with 20/4, 18/6, etc. But what convinced me to stay with a 24/0 veg cycle is a combination of theory and personal observation. My veggers show no signs of stress, but, I have had to make a few accomodations. For example, now I water daily so I...

    Help fast! seeds sprouted!

Don't panic, we'll get you through the early jitters. 1. I would get some 8 ounce or so Styrofoam cups, like the ones for small cups of coffee. 2. Take a pencil and drill 3 holes along the bottom of the cups for drainage. 3. Get quality dirt like Fox Farms which needs no additives for...

Do I need to dry/cure if I will be making butter with my harvest?

I would say yes, you still should cure no matter what your final product is. Drying/curing is a 2-part process. Drying removes moisture and curing makes sure your product has universal moisture. You want small buds to be the same as large buds. Without curing we get crispy large buds and damp...

Flowering (when is day one. The first day you flip)

My veg room has a 400W bulb running 24/7 as more light = more growth in veg mode. I veg my gals until they are 20-24 inches tall as I know my strain will pretty much stretch to double that height during the first 3 weeks of flowering. In that way I control the height of my plants to keep them...

Has anyone had this happen before

From the size of the big branch visible you must have vegged for months. Tip discoloration is common as the plant matures and you "problem" isn't, IMO. Good luck, BigSteve.

Flowering (when is day one. The first day you flip)

Good question. Even without going to 12/12 plants will flower on their own. We flip to 12/12 to force the plant to flower. Without adjusting the lights you may have taller scrawnier plants. Flipping allows us to better control the size of the plant and gives us better control over timing for...

    Topping with uneven nodes

Make your topping cut as high on the main stem as you can without cutting into the top node. Topping will usually give you 2 main colas instead of one. FIMimg is making the same cut except you want to go 1/8 to 1/4 inch higher so you you just barely cut into the top node. FIMing will result...

    First homemade soil grow

The picture makes it look like your plant(s) will not be getting as much sunlight as they should judging by the large shadow. Good luck, BigSteve.

Creative ideas for keeping grow tent cool?

    1. Unless absolutely necessary get rid of the tent. 2. Put a floor box fan in the tent doorway. Have the fan .blow air .into the tent. 3. Pick up a couple little 6 inch fans for inside the tent. You can run them with the flap open. 4. If possible, keep the plants farther from the bulb. Gives...

What Do You Do For Daylight Savings Time?

I ignore the time changes instead of re-setting my timers. Nothing burns out a bulb quicker than turning the timer/ballast on and off over and over in a short period of time. Who cares if the flower room lights from 9 to 9 instead of 8 to 8? Good luck, BigSteve.

What's the recommended watts I need for veg stage and flowering stage? With CFL bulbs.

I veg with a 400W bulb and flower with a 1000W bulb. Good luck, BigSteve.

    seed germinate

I have close to a 100% success rate germinating seeds and have never soaked the beans before putting them into a paper towel matrix. One thing I do is to put my paper towel/baggie set-up on a towel directly above my 400W veg bulb. They are warmer up there and tend to sprout quicker. Good luck...

    New Member, First Grow!

Note that the outside leaves have reached the rim of the pot. That means your roots are reaching the inside of the pot. From now until you transplant you will see a lot of vegetative growth with an inch a day likely. Should help you decide when you want to transplant. Good luck, BigSteve.

    Harvesting

Trichome coloration is the suggested way to decide harvest times. But you can be just about as reliable by judging the pistils colors. At weeks 5-6 you should see some of the higher pistils starting to turn from white to orange to real dark. When most of the pistils have passed through the white...

Well looks like I have broad/russet mites. Tips, advice, your personal experiences with them please

I use Sevin dust as my insecticide. Comes in a container that allows you to shake out as much as you want. So it is easy to use. It has no effect on plants or animals. In fact, When I was a vet tech. at UCLA Sevin dust was approved for use even when it came in to direct contact with the animals...

    Plant size durring veg/flower

You are getting a little too close to the bulb in the last picture. Best bet is to bend the main stem over until it is 90 degrees from the main stem. I usually bend the top 6-8 inches. Don't worry about injuring the plant. In fact, you may see yield increase as the bent part of the stem has...

    Seeds Start Faster Than Clones

My experience is just the opposite. Once a seedling in dirt goes into the veg room it takes 4-5 weeks to be ready to flower. Clones take 3-4 weeks. Good luck, BigSteve.

    Cloning straight into soil

I would use some toothpicks to keep a few of the leaves from laying on the soil. Good luck, BigSteve.
