Had to tie up all buds, got EXTREMELY heavy over night. Is this okay? (picture)

I love big bushies like this one! You must have done quite a bit of topping and/or FIMing to get the crown so "busy". Nice job. Consider pipecleaners to tie branches to each other or to the main stem. Ideally you could have installed a tomato cage before she spread out the way she did. They...

Germination: How long should roots be before planting?

I regularly put seedlings into dirt when they have a 1/2 inch root. Trick is to make sure the dirt is wet enough to form a mudball. Make your finger hole and drop in seedling root down. Important - press dirt all around the seedling firmly. Works for me. Good luck, BigSteve.

    Add nutrients during every feeding?

I water daily with nute water - MiracleGro 24-8-16. I use about 2/3 of a teaspoon per gallon and it's worked for me for years. Good luck, BigSteve.

    ideal pot size for SOG

General rule of thumb is that flowering plants need about 4 times the floor space that veggers need. At 4 square feet of floor space per flowering plant you will need an empty warehouse to finish 40 plants. Try staggering your grow by vegging (maybe) 10 plants and then veg 10 more after the...

    First Grow Seedlings problems

First pic shows a seedling that has dried out bits of the seedcap still attached. Second plant looks fine to me. I would want to clean up the top plant by removing the detritus. Use 2 toothpicks and use one to brace the stem by making a "t-shape" just under the leaves. Use the second toothpick...

Average life expectency of 1000w phantom ballast

I have a 1000W set-up in my flowering room. Bulbs last 2-3 years and I haven't had to replace the ballast for 6+ years. There is a slight drop-off in lumens produced by an older system but not enough to warrant replacement while they still perform. Good luck, BigSteve.

    Seeds vs. Clones

Clones is the way to go if/when you find a strain you really like. Clones are free and with regular feminized seeds retailing at $10+ per seed that is important if dealing with any volume. Clones are faster. I veg my seedlings and clones both until they are 20-24 inches when they get moved to...

Flowering autos during regular veg, mothers and clones.

I don't have autos on my regular grow schedule for a number of reasons. I have found that they can be grown with usual veg lighting without never having to move them or change their lighting. They grow well at 24/0 (my choice) or 20/4 or 18/6. So the only time I grow autos is when I have room in...

Ligthing a room 20 by 18 best ways do so so

There are too many variables here to even attempt to give a single definitive answer. Here are a few observations that may help you find your answer. * Under usual conditions a 1000W bulb should cover a space of 8 x 8 feet. * You cannot cover the entire floor space with pots. You will need room...

HOW LONG...do you veg your clones for?

Curious as to what you mean when you say you TP them "under the flower lights" . Are you referring to the bulb under which you TP? Congrats on all the positive feedback you have received. Tells me you are active as well as knowledgable in the forum. BigSteve.

HOW LONG...do you veg your clones for?

I don't use veg time as a metric for clones or seedlings. I veg until the plants are 20-22 inches tall. I know my indicas will just about double their height (stretching) after being moved to my 12/12 flower room. I want the plants to finish around 40-46 inches in height as my flower room is set...

    7 days from seed

    1) I transplant out of the first pot when the seedlings leaves are 100-150% as wide as the cup. Until the largest leaves reach the pot rim the plant is spending most of its energy building a rootball. Qaiting until the leaves hang over the rim will help kickstart the vegging process. 2) I start...

Start seed in middle of the pot?

Protecting the bottom leaves is one good reason to put the seedling in the center of the pot. Otherwise the bottom leaves on the big side of the pot are more likely to rest on the dirt. Good luck, BigSteve.

    Need Some Help Please!

A 1000W bulb means you plan to use it for flowering on a 12/12 light schedule. New set-ups can be balky so I would leave it alone once the light is on. Just make sure to check later on to make sure the bulb is in sync with thee timer. Hint -- nothing burns out a bulb faster than manually...

Hi, new here. Fell into a commercial grow operation

I'm in Michigan too. Check with your local grow shops and dispensaries if you can find one. They should be able to answer your questions. I would suggest you start small and grow your business slowly. Another thing for you to consider is who will be your customer base? Here in Michigan a...

Can you grow Autoflower and "regular" plants together?

Here's how I would do it. Autos grow best when lit on a 24/0 (my choice) or 20/4 light schedule. My veg room has a 400W bulb and runs 24/0, perfect for autos. So I'd run the autos alongside my vegging indicas, no problem. Only thing to watch out for is to make sure the autos are feminized...

How many plants for a 2'x3' closet? Maximizing yield?

I usually figure on about 4 square feet per plant. With just 6 square feet I see 2 obvious choices. 1. Get a short bushy indica and top or FIM her at 10-12 inches. Or, 2. Try 2 autos set side-by-side. I would go with #1 because I know indicas better. Advantage to #2 is that autos usually give...

    Have you ever seen this?

My posts are mostly answering questions from posters. I try to address situations where I've been there and seen that. I don't have an agenda outside of passing on things I've encountered. I don't expect anyone to have 100% the same views as I do. What/who are you trying to help by sneering and...

    Have you ever seen this?

Not to worry. 3 is better than 2 as the plant will be that much more bushy. That's a good thing and keep your fingers crossed the trait will continue. "3-fers" make excellent mother plants as you have 50% more growing .points that become clone sites. Keep us posted on the next generation and...
