I though the race was Semite, the religion Judaism with "Jewish" referring to any people of that religious affiliation.
Nope. Semetic is a language bond, not a race. In fact, the Jews and Arabs are actually related in that way: both races are Semite.

My point is that the terms are not so black and white. My second wife was Jewish, she didn't believe in god and never went to a synagogue but she was proud of her heritage. If we had a kid, that kid would have considered itself part Jewish even though it never would have learned about the invidious distinctions between gods from us. It is more complicated than that.

I take your points, but they are not the end of the story. I know many people who have ceased to be a practising Jew but still identify racially as Jewish. It's complicated. And it doesn't matter what label you put on them either. There is a lot of history behind it.

You certainly would not find this happening with Mormons. Not for about 6000 years and a few dozen more attempts at exterminating them.

I don't agree with Tys claims that it runs through the matrelineal line exclusively either. Sure, my ex could have identified as Romanian or Russian or a half dozen other countries as well, but the thing those places had in common where the fact that her people had to flee to those countries because they were Jews.

You can't walk away from your matrilineal line, however. That holds true whether or not you follow the religion. It's not so simple.
SO I guess you really are dumb on this.
I suggest you do some research on Ashkenazi Jews which are decedents of Khazars, of whom most now refer to as modern day Jews. They are Jews who actually converted to Judaism in the 8th century. DNA does not lie.
Now If you want to see who has the bloodline of Israelites you might want to look in the direction of Palestinians

All that said ...Jewish is not a fucking race.
One thing you need to determine a race is genetics.

I stand corrected; it was once explained to me that it went by female line. That was a long time ago and just one person with unknown expertise, and I've not studied the subject. I defer to your greater knowledge.
