It needs to be properly cured. Put in an air-tight jar and burp it every day or two for a couple of weeks, then once a week. You need to do this for a good 3-4 weeks to get the job done. Smell will improve as it's cured.

Keep the light at least 2' away for the first couple of weeks. No nutes for the first 2 weeks either. Watch your temps. Make sure you find out how long each strain takes to flower. Ideally you want to check the trichomes with a 30x+ microscope. Check the faq for more info. https://www.rollitup.org/view.php?pg=faq&cmd=category&id=59 If you can't get a scope, some people harvest when 80% of the hairs have gone brown/red.

If you can afford it, get the Foxfarm Ocean Forest soil($20) and mix it with 25% perlite to assist drainage. You won't need any veg nutes because the soil will feed the plants just fine for the first month. For flowering nutes, again, I like Foxfarm(Tiger Bloom & Big Bloom).

Yeah, it happens sometimes. I make sure to agitate my solution regularly to minimize sediment.

It also depends on the grower too. I've had excellent specimens of Master Kush that blew away the best OG and Bubba I've tried. They're all good shit, though. It's like picking your favorite luxury car. Regardless of choice, your phat ass is rolling in style.

Doing what you did, starting off slow is key. Work your way up to the recommended dosage on the bottle, but only if your plants show no signs of problems.
