When posting a poll on RIU there is a maximum of 10 possible responses. I chose libertarian, conservative leaning conservative, independent (centrist or moderate), leaning liberal, liberal, and socialist because most people can fit into one of them. Sure I could have put other political views or parties, but like I said the maximum could only be ten, so I chose to enter the 7 most MAIN STREAM political views. I'm sure you all can choose one and so we can get a general consensus on the users posting in this forum. As far as socialist being in italics- I don't know? Mine doesn't show that, and if I did it was a complete accident. And of course libertarian and socialism aren't polar opposites. They are just two of the more main stream views in our political climate currently. The poll starts from the middle and works it's way out to the left and right using main stream political views.

And as far as the fiscally conservative and socially liberals.. ah ha.. its tough isn't it? Since there isn't a fiscally responsible party out there it is tough. My best advice to you is- Do you believe in Keynesian economics? Because it seems as though most conservatives abandoned that, actually chastise that. Maybe that will help.

Vegan isn't a political party. :dunce:
Ahh, I see why you got a hair up your ass about that comment, I just read your sig.

Why can't we kill humans? Why is it that killing plants and animals are ok but not humans? Do we deem humans as far more superior than them? Who are we to make such judgments?

Man, you're really stupid.

The term Libertarian has it's own meaning here. That is precisely my point. I have self identified as a Libertarian Socialist since I started voting for Nader but I also admit that had Nader's votes in Florida gone to Gore in 2000 (I didn't vote in Florida) history would be quite different.
Fucking hippy...

Man, you're really stupid, it's a quote from an anime, but it rings true.

Humans are the only animal who dominate the rest of the world. Animals and plants have feelings and think too.

Monty Python made a skit about this concept. If you don't understand another's language, you don't respect them. It's ok to cheat them because it's not like you can understand them. Hey, maybe their yelling and screaming is their way of saying thanks!

When I find a cricket in the house I pick it up and my children follow me to let it loose outside. As long as an animal isn't about to harm you or can contaminate your food, etc leave it alone.

You liberals have pet races who you consider inferior by giving affirmative action because they don't have the same opportunities. It's unfair to you those with priveledge have an easier time.

Animals and plants are the penultimate affirmative candidate. We take over their habitat, and kill them for food and sport. If I can live without harming as many living things as posible, including humans, even if at times it's inconvenient, why shouldn't I? Why shouldn't we all?

Now tell me who's the real stupid one?

You watch cartoons, quote Monty Python to justify your opinions and equate humans life with plant life. You're the stupid one.

edit:

Do you also collect those plastic toys, Sylvanian families? Your Avatar and Username suggests this.

edit2:
Plants think? PMSL .... Sorry, I shouldn't laugh.

Sylvan means a person who feels connected to the forrest or woods. Those are pretty much the only places left where you can find animals who are left alone and actually protected. If you go into a wooded area in the middle of nowhere at night, you get a feeling of tranquility not found anywhere else. I'm sorry you think humans are more important than plants that've been here for thousands of years and long after we're not even a specie on this planet anymore.

And yes, plants can communicate too. There've actually been many studies on the subject.

The bunny is praying. I'm an atheist, but I find it amusing if animals think there's a god. If so, we're most certainly their devil.

I find your ideas so bizarre you're probably the most interesting person Ive ever spoke to on RIU .... I was wrong to call you stupid. Sorry.

My ridicule came from a place of ignorance, I was unaware of much you were saying but now I am a little wiser. :peace: and respect.

No problem. I think everyone, including myself, should learn something new. It can even be from someone you think is a fool or a different political perspective. You don't even need to agree with them. But, the least you can do is respect them. Unless you're a rapist or murderer, etc along those lines.

I have a vivid imagination, sometimes I forget reality and think others are the same as me. But, then I think about how boring that would be.

You've got to be kidding me. If this guy had his way, we would all be living in a wooden box, shitting in an out house, and riding a bike to work. Kinda like Obama's half brother in Kenya who lives on 20$ a month. What a nice guy Obama is. Won't even lend a helping hand to his brother who needs money for his son's surgery. Doesn't sound like ObamaCares about anybody but himself. The level of narcissism seeping from that man's persona is astonishing.

NO WAY. I'm dead against riding a bike to work.

LOL. Can you imagine your bro being the U.S president and living on $20 a month. That's gotta suck. I don't know of this story so can't comment on Obama or whats going on..... It seems very hard to believe. I'll read up on it.

I just wish he would put an end to drone strikes. I can't respect a man who has the power of life and death and takes the later option. I'm disillusioned with most world leaders and will never vote again.

I would concidering myself fiscally conservative, and socialy liberal. Just one or the other does not cover me as a person.
In my opinion, you have just defined Libertarian. These are the exact words that Gary Johnson used to explain Libertarian when he was on Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show"

I don't want to put people down for their beliefs. Because I'm human my ego often takes over and I find myself acting in the same way as the people I despise, which is telling people what to think. If I were to think of you in a negative way for holding your beliefs then to be consistent I would also have to think of 99% of the worlds population in a similar way.

The world need more ideas not less, so good for you for being a free-thinker.

In my opinion, no. That's just how I feel. But I don't want to be labeled anything. Call me an American. Be safe with our money, and let people have the beliefs that they have. No need to tell me how I should live my life.

That is by no means what I understand Libertarian means, nor would most libertarians agree to... although some may. You need to understand that "being labeled", as someone put it, doesn't necessarily mean you are confined to a certain set of beliefs. There is always a spectrum.. and even sub ideologies within.. I feel as though the hyper partisanship in D.C. has pushed people away from these "labels". I can sometimes understand people not wanting to be affiliated with a party (democrats or republicans), but saying you're liberal or conservative or whatever isn't a bad thing! It's a set of beliefs! It's what you stand for!!! If you don't stand for anything you stand for nothing.

If you're talking about me, then you don't know me. Not everyone wants to force their life onto others, which is what I mean when I refer to liberals. I'm not anyone's bother's keeper. I only help if you want it, and if I feel like it or care enough.

I don't care if you want to fuck up, plus how else do I get entertainment?

I think you have a fundamental misunderstand of what "you are your brothers keeper..." means.. What that quote refers to is- say my house gets searched without a warrant, or my peaceful rally in favor or legalizing marijuana use ends in arrest, or any other situation where my civil liberties are jeopardized- Its your job and everyone else s job to stick up for me and stop my rights from being infringed... Why??? So that it doesn't happen to you! When my civil liberties are infringed upon, so are yours. If they can to it to me, they can do it to you. Understand? I'm sure you would agree to that... Wouldn't you? It has nothing to do with "forcing lifestyles" or "giving help" as in welfare, just protecting what WE ALL are entitled too.

Brother's keeper comes from the Bible. Cain slew Abel. Afterwards Cain was a smart ass and responded, "Am I my brother's keeper," when God asked where his brother was.

I don't care how you and Obama want to interpret the phrase, " 'ach shamar," which means to watch over intently, like a shepard does his flock.

Cain knew God knew what he had done, so he was trying to justify it by calling Abel an animal, which God allowed them to kill.

Think about it, why would a reference to the first murderer mean to sick up for your fellow man, or protecting our entitlements, like you said? It was Cain mocking God.
