Thats a much better way to say what I wanted to (I am somewhat lacking in composition skills), thank you.
Your welcome. The main purpose of etiquette is to keep every day interactions from spiraling out of control. Out of control like this one did.
If the cashier had not breached one of the primary rules about discussing politics the out of control response would not have happened.
If the young man had followed the rules and not lost it, the event could have ended nicely. All he had to say was, 'We all have our opinions and some, particularly, are better kept to themselves. Don't you think?' The, don't you think, is a very polite way of allowing someone to ease out of situation and save face.
Instead, he was rude and l presume loud and belittled a woman whom he even commented was working hard. No matter what she had said, his behavior left him looking like a cad in the eyes of everyone else. He is obviously has some kind of mental Napoleon complex since he thinks that verbally threatening a person with their menial job made him feel better about himself.
He behaved how he presumes the 1% he complains about behaves. I bet he complains that they behave holier than thou, and looks down on the working class and he hates how they treat people... people just like that woman...
The use of etiquette would have prevented it all.
