The really sad part is he didn't even have the common curtsy to allow her to say her piece. He was apparently so abashed by this little old lady that he felt it was necessary to interrupt her as she was clearly preparing to speak with threats none the less. He was evidently afraid of what she might say in response, weather it be to intellectually taxing for him to process or of him being un able to control himself when faced with another person who disagreed with him. Either way i he appears both narcissistic and arrogant.
You need to read the story again, that's is clearly not what happened.

"I suggest you keep your political opinions to yourself when you're standing there because you never know who's standing here. I don't appreciate hearing my president trashed like that. That's all I'm going to say."
Her eyes flashed with anger and realization that I must be one of "those people". She drew in a breath, about to say something and I said,
"If you say one more fucking thing I'll go find your manager and all three of us can discuss this."
At that, she suddenly deflated. Now the look in her eyes was fear. She looked down and meekly mumbled "Ok. Sorry sir."

Dude tried to be polite about it and was quicker on the trigger than she was, she must have realized she was at work and could probably get in trouble. I've done the same shit at work with customers before, was going to respond back but didn't for the sake of the job. It's an unfortunate situation, but the lady did initiate the situation.

Stupid people are stupid regardless of age, yes I agree old people should be respected, but if they say something stupid in public, their age should not shield them from criticism.
If dude tried to be polite about it, he failed miserably. Imagine someone saying to you *precisely* what the author said to her. I would certainly take offense at what I perceive as priggery. To truly be polite, you have to be good at concealing anger, at least when addressing a stranger. cn

You know the world is fucked when people take the side of a corrupt lying politician who doesnt give a flip about them over a hard working seinor citizen who rings up their groceries and talks.

She should have responded by filing a hate crime complaint for his abusing her due to her age and sex. Isn't that why those progressives gave us those double jeopardy laws, to protect the "weak". Throw an enhancement on if its within 100 feet of a school while you are at it. He probably doesn't even use CFLs or drive a hybrid.

If I was talking shit about the president in public *at work* and someone came up to my register and told me "I suggest you keep your political opinions to yourself when you're standing there because you never know who's standing here. I don't appreciate hearing my president trashed like that. That's all I'm going to say." I would look the guy right in the eyes and apologize for being rude and unaware of my surroundings, then quickly realize I should probably keep my political opinions that could possibly offend customers to myself.

Let the old lady be offended, she SHOULD be offended for being rude in the first place.

The douche writing up the story and publishing it on the internet is another topic entirely. That's beside the point. During this interaction, the lady was at fault and she got put in her place for it.

I see where he is coming from, i often feel the same way when I over hear the constant unfounded big-media backed Ron Paul criticism (he out, its over, i'm not trying to start anything). I feel an irrational feeling of aggression toward the people who, in my opinion are spewing out lines they have been hand fed second hand with out ever weighing the benefits to the country of his platform. Again, I'm not starting a Ron Paul topic, I'm simply trying (poorly) to illustrate the feeling this man must have been griped by while watching/over hearing this lady.

But at the same time I lost a fair amount respect for him biased on the encounter he felt proud enough of to post online. He is not in control of himself, oh i'm sure he manages to go about daily life well enough to avoid conflict with the authorities, but very lacking is his understanding of human interaction and personal liberties, or at the very least feel his are delusions of the concepts are extend only to himself and those who agree with him.

I talk about politics, race, and religion nearly every day at work. I make it clear that anyone who feels uncomfortable with themselves and do not wish to take part in the discussion may excuse themselves and I will take no offence, or they can hang out and listen until they wish to shear there opinions.

Disagreements do not make enemy's out of adults. =)

It's seldom the case that I find myself in complete agreement with the libs on the forum, however, the woman was way out of line discussing politics and disparaging the President while on the job. The author was more than polite in his first effort to warn her, but he could have left out the "fuckin" when it looked like she was going to continue. Back in the day, you'd get knocked on your ass by the gentleman standing behind you for cursing at or in the presence of a woman.

i bet the little old lady is a ron paul nut, talking about inflation and obama being out of touch with her life. i'll bet the house and farm that no one would talk about romney as being more "in touch" with anything besides offshore tax havens.

paulbot put in place, a happy ending was had by all.

I agree, but there is a right and a wrong way to do it. He presented us with a perfect example of away you can do it and take advantage of the situational constructs to avoid ever having to devote any thought or effort to the conversation and basically "troll" the individual you are targeting.

oh man, i could write a research paper on the number of ways this guy broke common human edict to corner and elderly lady strip her of her ability to defend herself and blackmale her into submission with out ever allowing her to offer justification for her opinions, and using the situation to make an exit never having defended reasoning, or even stating it for that matter, for taking offence or evidence to thwart her assertions. He just tells her to - shut the fuck up, your hurting my feelings -

In that case you are an absolute saint imo. I otoh would probably have smiled sweetly, said "I'm glad that's all you're going to say about it. Paper or plastic, sir?" cn

This wasn't debate club and she wasn't a political pundit. She was a cashier ringing up purchases. He had every right (once again don't like his method) to tell her to stop. She is there to do her job not voice her political opinions.

Do you ever get tired of trolling with your off topic anti Ron Paul propaganda? Isn't he already out of the race?

Not according to the Paulbots. Right now they're spurting in their jeans about delegates.. some arcane bullshit that is supposed to put Ron Paul on top.
