I want to know why women's pants/slacks have the zipper on the other side? Like in button fly Levis: the buttons are sewn on the left of the fly. But on women's they are sewn to the right. Why is this? pants now have a gender?

It comes from colonial times, or so I've heard before- women were always/often dressed by maids, so the shit was backwards so the maids who dressed them didn't have to switch things up.
Not sure if it's true but it sounded good so I believed it.
