The end of the cuts are turning light green. It looks like they are covered in a water drop but seems like a thicker consistency. Is that the bad slime?

They shouldn't have anything on them, when they start to root you will see a few white dots then in a day or two after that some roots will start to build. Make sure to inoculate on ever water change.

I inoculated when I got the stuff.

How would you describe clear slime?

Picked up some mini sprinklers for drip irrigation to use as low pressure aero / nft. Also a mechanical timer to try modding for cycle timer

I was going to ask you what temp you were running, it's best to run about 72 or a bit cooler if having problems. Sounds like you have a plan, stay diligent with your res water and may roots be with you brother!

The only aquarium heater I could get I preset to 78 with no adjustment. I was having wide temp swings prior to getting it that gave me rooting problems. I'll let them go a bit and see what happens. If it fails I'll buy a new tub, soak the bubble and air hose in bleach solution and start over.

While I was gone this weekend I unplugged my flower lamp considering my rooting experiment failed in there. Come back and one of five (I think it's 5) has a single long root down into the rez.

Yeah I read about clean vs the aquashield mix. Nimby didn't believe in water changes and running clean rez and had great results in his swc setups.

Sounds reasonable, it's all enzymes and bacteria (the good kind).
Like many you are finding that instead of fighting against nature (clean) you will have a less stressful time learning to balance it.
IMHO while lower res temps may take longer to root it is a less habitable environment for the nasties, that and more air. Aerobic environments prevent the nasties too, you could easily multiply your air input by 5 and still not be at the maximum range for air diffusion. Just saying, I really cannot over emphasize this.

Well the tutorial was a 96 pin timer from Lowe's. There current version is only a 48 pin timer.

I took apart a harbor freight 96 pin but after a quick look decided it was a no go for me on that one.

The Lowe's timer has triangle screw bit that I don't have. Can't find my container of specialized bits.

Hose clamps and a piece of vinyl or poly tube, the connection is tube/barbed/taper to obviously pvc/ips(iron pipe size). You just need the size close if you use a small piece of vinyl tube because it stretches. Thats the short and sweet, I'll spare you the gory othersd

Home depot didn't have any 1/2 in barbed fittings in pvc section

All you need is to get down to where the same piece of tubing can be crammed onto each side. You don't necessarily need a barbed fitting, but as an fyi home depot keeps the barbed fittings over by the sprinklers and furnace filters usually, not by the pvc fittings. Again, you just need to get the pvc reduced if the same piece of vinyl tube will fit over. If it is close you could try heating up the vinyl, insert a pair of pliers in the end and gently stretch the end open more, viola an instant reducer fitting

I was gonna suggest heating the vinyl tubing to size myself. Usually how I do for my small pumps. RTV/gasket maker has come in handy as well.. Although, if I'm using a general bonding agent, I like E-6000 for most applications
