The Republican Machine...

Law enforcement is an occupation, not a race; this is apparent. At the same time, however, I think it's irrelevant to the current discussion. What doublejj is saying makes sense, and the arguments against him seem pedantic and beside the point. Think of what he's saying as an analogy. Cops, much like a "race" of human beings, come in all varieties. To dismiss them all as violent Neanderthals is relying on stereotypes and distorted preconceptions to define each individual making up the group. This is the logic behind racism and misogyny. Prejudice is at the heart of racism, basically. For all intents and purposes, they're the same thing.

Just my two cents.

I completely agree with both posts.

Also, if your position is that all cops are bad then there cannot be any solution. If you instead agree than 90% of cops just want to help the community then action could be taken to try to get that percentage up. Otherwise, there is no chance for positive progress.

They say that there's no such thing as a bad student, only bad teachers. So I'm gonna take the blame for your failings.
If you substitute the word N*gg*r or Mexican for the word police in your posts bearcat, you have written the complete "How to Be A Racist" manual......

How about if I substitute the word idiot or dumbass for the word police? What then? I honestly can't believe that I'm actually arguing with someone who's trying to make "police" a race. Sheesh :wall:

Ok we'll call it prejudice.....Police prejudice

when you wrap them all up in one blanket & hate on them.....racism by any other name is still racism.....even police
I see what you are getting at. You are misusing the term racism. I think bigot or biased is a better description of a person that lumps all cops into one bag and hates on them or distrusts them.

Police corruption and brutality is well documented in another thread. There is good history showing that police cannot be trusted to police themselves. It takes a brave person, usually with a horrendous story, to stand up to the police and stop bad ones. This is especially true in a force with a long history of racist or corrupt acts. For this reason, I think its reasonable to be biased towards police and to never trust the police. And I can understand why somebody may even hate people who wear that badge. You may call this bigoted, it probably is. But I think this is a reasonable stance to take. Especially for people of color who know better than I what it's like to live in a society with racist cops.
