Projects...

Now that the heat wave is gone I can get back to work. I got the posts cut and notched the other day and yesterday I got my first truss set into place.

I had to rig up an extension arm for my payloader so I can lift the trusses the 16ft needed to set them on the posts.

I didn't get much done yesterday. I got another truss up and marked out the angle braces to stabilize the walls.

I'm going to try and get the rest of the trusses up today after putting up the braces.

I'm extremely afraid of heights so it's taking everything I have to get this done.:neutral:

...nice! If you tacked on a 2x4 in front of the shoulder cuts on those 4x4s you could slide the truss in without worrying (as much) about it tipping over. You might be doing that already so sorry if that's the case. If not, it's worth it.

That's a good idea, the only problem is the rig I made for the payloader can only lift the trusses to the notch, no higher.

I keep the truss held in place with the loader until I know it's stable.

Cool. Back in the day we made a spreader bar and straps to lift 50' of wall at a time (with a jcb). Fun as all hell :)
 
oh and this is my other project. 5 days from breaking ground. pls don't laugh she's shy lol

and my longest running project, trying to figure out how to remove my head from my anus been working on it for years and the thing is it was so easy putting it there!! LOL slow and steady I'll get it done

Used to have a 40' great fun, we rigged it to were we could drive it while 30-40' high hit a little dip and it could throw you into the next county.....
 
Looking good God. I hear you on the heights. Put me on a ladder any higher up than I think I can safely jump and my knees start shaking so bad it almost becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. I do fine on airplanes and buildings and whatnot. I always say I don't have a fear of heights, I have a fear of falling. :p

On the real though - here are 4 towers I used to climb twice annually.
Each is 685' tall & a challenge to muster up the courage to get moving up.
The towers themselves are not the antenna - that is suspended as a "net" from the tops of the towers so thankfully each one was "Dead".

Fuck that!

Sucks because I've had to turn down so many good paying welding jobs that wanted me to work higher up.
 
I had to turn down tower work before. I could work on a roof's edge running coax up through pvc and installing GPS antenaes but something about tower climbing doesn't do it for me.

My family has had an antenna business since there could be one. They now climb the 500 foot commercial towers more often now. They say there is no room for error up there.
