North Carolina's Deliberate Disenfranchisement Of Black Voters

Some form of state id should be required. My state uses id to check my name off the list.

You need state id for cigarettes, alcohol, driving, job applications...

Put on your 1700s sorting hat, Pie darling.

An identification that you MUST pay for is indeed a form of voter suppression.

You shouldn't have to pay money to obtain a document which allows you to vote.

This is why a college education today is totally worthless....

Anyone want to bet how quick a class is developed on how to most efficiently collect pokemon?

I have no idea what the Pokemon craze is about.

I've not read, sought to read or understand it in any form.

My boss called me yesterday to congratulate me on another perfect month of meeting my quota.

Priorities.

I can guarantee you that pcp nick got the name FROM the Hemsley character.

I'm taking a black studies course this semester..70sblack sitcoms, prison drugs and you.

'We're moving on up..to the east side..moving on up..to that de-luxe apartment in the sky...'

Dear god- this can be a whole new thread.
Awesome class title. I first saw sherm in DC in the 90s. I never knew about the Jefferson connection.

It still feels as if suddenly, around 72 or 73, damn near everything on TV went pretty black. Can you trace all the spin-offs? Do you know the tragic story of Joe? Florida's Joe?

Thank you for helping to fulfill the 5 year plan. You are a Hero of the People.

Your priority appears to be taking a totally useless course in college.

Then make it free for the first one and 5 dollars for replacements.

Cigarettes, booze, driving and fishing are privileges.

Voting is a RIGHT, and the only thing voter ID laws do is discriminate against the poor.

I agree that there's plenty of vote rigging shenanigans going on. I disagree that voter ID requirements address any of it, instead being another sham to distract the gullible from the voter tampering that's really happening.

You should have to prove citizenship to vote. Imo.

When you buy a gun you have to show id.

I want it to be easy to vote and hard to tamper with the results.

Can we stay on the topic here? I know republicans love to talk about guns, but we're talking about voting rights.

I understand if that makes you feel uncomfortable. It can suck being forced to share power with those you've been oppressing for so long.

Here's another great example of solving a problem that doesn't exist with methods that disenfranchise vulnerable members of society.

You'd have a lot more credibility on this issue if you and your party were half as interested in ensuring fair results from elections, without behind the scenes vote tampering.

In an interview last year with The Daily Show, Don Yelton, a GOP precinct chair in Buncombe County, North Carolina, defended the state’s new voter ID law, saying so many offensive things, he was asked to resign the day after it aired. Yelton admits at the start of the segment that the number of Buncombe County residents who commit voter fraud is one or two out of 60,000 a year. The interview correspondent, Aasif Mandvi, replies that those numbers show “there’s enough voter fraud to sway zero elections,” and then Yelton replies, “Mmmm…that’s not the point.” He goes on to say that “if it hurts a bunch of lazy blacks that want the government to give them everything, so be it.” and then adds, “The law is going to kick the Democrats in the butt.” After the segment aired, the Buncombe County GOP Chair issued a statement on Yelton’s comments, calling them “offensive, uniformed and unacceptable of any member within the Republican Party” and called for Yelton’s resignation. He obliged.

Well, if the GOP precinct chair in Buncombe County says it, you know that shit is stone cold fact. Precinct chair in Buncombe County...lolz.

Except for the pesky fact that ANYONE can obtain a free voter photo ID in NC by simply stating they have no other valid photo ID. Whoops.
