Mandala Seeds Hashberry and Beyond the Brain Grow

Been a while since I provided a real update on the Mandala gear grow so here it is. Ok, you've been warned.

For the first batch, it is week three of flower and the BTBs and the Hashberry are still stretching but starting to put energy into bud development as well. My current feediing schedule seems to be adequate for the Hashberry but needs to be adjusted for the BTBs which are showing quite a bit of yellowing especially the in fan leaves. My first reaction is N deficiency during this stretch period but welcome any other suggestions. Anyway, the two different BTB phenos have really become apparent with BTB2 being more of a traditional sativa profile while BTB5 showing more indica/sativa mix. I like the development of BTB2 so far (even though the Uncle Ben topping method didn't result in 4 dominant branches/colas for me), less impressed with BTB5.

BTB5 left BTB2 right. BTB5 main cola development, BTB2 main cola development.

The Hashberry was topped and is showing four primary bud sites. This girl has had extremely tight inter node spacing from the get-go and has not shown any top stretch in flower. I expect extremely dense nugs from these colas but not sure she will be a huge producer - too early to tell.

For the next generation, I took cuttings for the 3 BTBs and 3 of the Hashberrys, upcanned and moved them into flower this morning. I decided to top the BTBs above the fourth node this time and not top the HBs. As far as pre-sexing goes i don't know that my luck is improving. I am predicting 1/3 females on the BTBs and 3/5 females on the HBs - think I'll postpone that trip to Vegas! ;-) Of the two left in veg a rare showing of pistils before offering up any cuttings so I should have at least one female!!!

BTBs Left and center rear (another indica-dom center rear). HBs right and center front (center right transplanted last night and already perked up, right two just transplanted)

Family reunion in flower. BTB5 and HB2 propped up, BTB3 and newcomers on the floor.

Now for the overshare, here are a few pics of veg.

Looking good man, nearly 100% cetain that you need more N for the btb ... some strains and even phenos of the same strain use N up more in the stretch than others ,you just gotta watch out for it and up your N acordingly, The hashberrys look amazing..

Thanks man, I appreciate it. I have bumped up the N, added a boiled bone meal tea and top dressed with EWC and bone meal. I remember recommending hitting your C99 with N early in veg as well! I think some strains just need more during stretch than others.

The yellowing seems to been halted in its tracks and the girls are still stretching a bit and buds are definitely continuing to develop. The tall one got a full feeding tonight with the increased nutrient dosage which helped water in the top dressing I gave her. The shorter one will be ready for a feeding tomorrow so we'll see if this helps for the longer haul. I'll post pics later in the week after they've had some time to absorb the nutes.

I've got a final female count on the second round of BTBs and HBs: HB - 3/5 female, BTB - 1/3 female. Overall I took a beating from Mandala on these seeds but regulars are always a gamble. Anyway, the BTB and two of the HBs are in the flower room. I decided to keep the last HB in veg and started training her ala nugbucket's Mainlining Technique.

Things are continuing to improve with the BTBs. I can see darker green overtaking the lighter green especially in the sugar leaves. Some of the fan leaves are also coming back but I'm pretty sure some are too far gone. Oh well, chalk it up to the learning curve. Speaking of, I have top dressed the newcomers with bone meal and EWC to get in front of the nute problem this time around. Even the Hashberry has benefited from the change.

Here is a side-by-side of the Beyond the Brains, one week ago and tonight. Sorry, closeups show it better (whoops):

And the Hashberry:

Now for a little bud porn:

HB: Incredibly tight inter nodes resist photo penetration. These are going to be some dense nugs!

First batch is coming along nicely and the Hashberry is now more than halfway through flower (based on breeder guidelines). Her colas continue to fill in and they are all starting to go vertical above the canopy as well. I have not grown a plant this compact and dense before! She has a great piney/earthy/peppery scent to her.

The two Beyond the Brain plants, one short one tall, are also progressing. Colas are filling in nicely on both and some of the lower bud sites that usually have more popcorn type buds are also continuing to stack up. BTB5, the one that had the worse yellowing a couple weeks ago has recovered quite nicely. BTB2, the taller pheno is experiencing a relapse over the past four days so she is getting some special attention at the moment. Otherwise, I've been pretty happy with them so far. As far as smell, there is very little unless i "accidentally" disturb a bud, then it releases a clean, citus/sage, with touch of ammonia scent that is extremely pleasant though understated. Pics are kinda lame - I'll get some better ones next time they come out of the flower room.

Got back in the flower room to feed the old girls tonight and pulled em out for some photos. As mentioned, the tall BTB is has relapsed, showing yellowing fan leaves again so I bumped up the Grow and Micro to give her a kick of N & Mg. The short one is still doing ok, continuing to green up.

Side-by-side pic 17 days ago when they first started yellowing and tonight:

The BTBs are continuing to fill out and up the stems. Going to be some substantial colas on both these ladies once the fully bulk up and they have another 5 weeks to go! The short one remains well behaved and has been responding well to the current nute schedule and the tall one is beginning to get some darker green back into those yellowing leaves. Been a good week with them.

The next gen is coming along nicely as well after 3 weeks. The two Hashberrys in the back show two of the distinct phenotypes. I am not sure if the really short one from the first generation and the one used in the failed Mainline attempt are a third, even shorter pheno or if the are just the result of topping the short phenotype. The Beyond the Brain in the front is very similar to the shorter BTB above. Learning from the first round, I top dressed with worm castings and bone meal to ward off a late-stretch deficiency. We'll see if it works.

IMG_9695.jpg

After an initial top of the BTB in veg, I also topped each of the four dominant branches. This makes for eight main colas, two per branch. I was hoping the tops would have stretched a bit more by this point so I hope that the pairs are spaced well enough that they are not prone to mold.

Flowers starting to emerge on the shorter HB.

And the flower room is now full.

very nice man , those colas are impressive, got a few oz per plant at least there I reckon and looks frosty to! I have not seen a plant as squat as the hasberry ,you'll need to watch for mold big time with that strain.. would rep ya but I can't lol
