Our hospital lost a 50k bill because our cardiologist didn't document why he didn't prescribe aspirin to a heart patient according to core measures mandated by the government. His patient was on plavix and it was so obvious to the doctor he didn't understand why the documentation was needed. According to Obamacare, a verbal order no longer suffices, the orders will have to be entered electronically by the doctor himself now. Watching these brilliant men and women struggle with a password is both comical and sad. They could say give him aspirin or they can spend 30 minutes with the help desk because they've locked themselves out of the EMR again. This isn't going to help with costs at all.

That part doesn't sound designed to address costs but safety. Trust me - the states that prohibit doctors writing in cursive are ahead of the game. Some take great delight in writing like henscratch. It gets ridiculous asking "Can anybody read Dr. Jackoff's writing please?"

You well know that this law, or collection of laws and regulations, this program - will be modified year after year. Nothing stays intact, especially a big chunk of pork.

Know what CROWNWeb is? I'm sure you do. Our desk people have had a hard time getting everything collated and correlated into it lately and we have to go live online soon. Not sure of the date and could not care less. I've had to get used to everything from AIDS to computers in almost 35 years. Actually almost 36!!! Will be next month. Time flies.

Hassle? Hell yes. But a sure step to helping cut fraud. Not eliminating it but direct entry from care site to Medicare (CMS to us) makes tinkering with shit a lot harder.

So they can work to offset or pass on all other price increases from manufacturing to shipping to labor costs but not this? BS! I've been in business. You absorb as much as you can to keep from passing it on to your customers but inevitably when you do have to increase them they understand. If you're worth a shit at what you do.

2010 was a different time. You think Republicans will stop talking about rape, being racist, homophobic, talking down to the majority, and get out of womens health? Doubt it. That is the only way they will recover. I don't see that happening until after Hillary serves two terms. At the earliest.

You are making the same mistake that Republicans made in this election... You are failing to realize that the general voting public has changed. You can't piss off everyone but straight white conservative christians and millionaires and expect to win anymore. Doesn't work like that... The demographics changed, out of Republicans favor, and it is on a path to continue that way.

A healthy population is an asset to any nation. The fact our infant mortality rate is worse than 33 other countries should be appalling. That's a good health care system? Countries like South Korea and Brunei outdo us? 34th in infant mortality?

37th in life expectancy and outdone by shitholes like Macau and Singapore?

I do some work with DaVita Dialysis and I think they use it but I'm not sure. I've only seen it, i haven't used it at all. I'm getting pretty well versed in quite a few of the different EMRs. After the passage of the bill i was recruited into the informatics world and it's pretty cool. Some of the phone apps are unreal. I guess the best way to describe what I'm doing now is implementation of clinical applications. I'm still new to it so I expect I'll have to learn more about CROWNWeb whether I want to or not.

I see the future being large hospital corporations and hospital owned doctor practices. The thousands of EMRs out there will be whittled down to what the government deems appropriate or useful so there is more standardization across the board. If I had known 2 years ago what I know now I would have consulted private practices to get them up on EMRs. Obamacare paid good money to offices for being up on electronic medical records by certain time frames. There are actually some good free programs out there that comply. One doc got an 18k check from the gov for installing and using this free software. A mint could have been made.

Oh and let's rush to limit malpractice awards in a system that lets you die, obviously by life expectancy, but protects those who permit it. There are so many poor doctors out there. If they would truly police their own ranks and reveal who has been officially disciplined and why I would respect the profession more. They don't so I don't.

I don't think many places really are shitholes. Including Macau. But most of these conservative "patriots" hold themselves and their banners on high and feel the US is above reproach by anybody for any reason and that is not only insane but immature. It's only in assessing your strengths and weaknesses and using your strengths as best possible to address your weaknesses in any system that you get ahead or at least break even. Otherwise you're just a willing passenger on a ship of fools.

I know South Korea is no shithole and they beat us in both infant mortality and life expectancy. I'm sure some conservative will come along and credit it all to Clinton or Carter and moan about us paying for it.

The CW? It's a motherfucker. But a guy can only do so much and go so fast when getting used to a system. Again I am sure it will be tweaked constantly. Too bad there are no government instructors going to these large businesses and instructing us. Now THAT would help reduce a shitload of errors you know are coming when we go live.

As they raise prices to offset the rise in taxes, the tax will also rise. Overseas manufacturers will not be subject to those taxes, therefor they will undercut our prices. Watch for cheap Chinese made medical devices to replace American made products. Do you really want a cheap knockoff pacemaker keeping your heart beating?

The healthcare bill wasn't even on the ballot. That was voted in by Congress, years ago. Original post was about layoffs. I am an overpaid, under-worked government employee. If my funding (a DOE grant) gets cut, it won't take effect until June. If it should get cut, I can live pretty well on unemployment at half my current wage. If I can draw it 99 weeks, I would just consider it an extended vacation. I could use a break. I've got 9 weeks of vacation pay coming to me, too.

Been to Macau and Singapore both, neither were shitholes when i visited, quite nice actually.

That statistic is deceptive. USA counts all full-term pregnancies. Many nations do not count babies under the age of 1 month and up to 1 year. Differing standards make the statistic meaningless, tho those with an agenda will keep quoting it. South Korea, Brunei, and Singapore are wealthy nations, not "shitholes" at all. I know nothing about Macau, so I won't comment. Iran's government claims there are no gays in Iran. Yet, nearly every day, several are stoned to death.
