I've always been under the impression that god sent his son to die for our sins.

I take that as we can live our lives without the worry of sin.. but then you get deeper into the bible especially revelations and then all that changes.

I'm not saying ancient wisdom is more accurate than modern science, I am simply saying ancient man knew more than we give them credit for.

Look at the pyramids in Egypt and meso-America. We would have trouble building them today out of the same material. Their alignments are astounding, and it was all done without power tools and gps.

The ancients are amazing.
Very true!

I found many liberal atheists on this site that are ages 18-35.
They don't seem to understand books and learned technology.

THey know what they know and that's good enough.

Didn't they also do something with mermaids? Or was that discovery? Idk at this point.
Yeah, good example, mermaids, bigfoot, ancient aliens, constant paranormal shows.. the History Channel is a terrible source for real historical information. I think about 4 or 5 years ago they realized their ratings were trailing and so they switched to a more entertainment style model instead of an accurate historical one. If you take a look at the ratings, it's definitely seemed to work..

If that was the case, why should anyone be worried about sinning?

How is it possible to be rich without being greedy?

Also, couldn't you say the same thing for murderers and rapists? That they could simply accept Christ and get into Heaven, too?

If that's the case, where does the value lie in being a good person for the sake of being a good person in Christianity? Why not just do what I want and ask for forgiveness and accept Christ?
Its not, you have to have greed in order to become rich.

From what I understand as long as you repent you go to heaven.

See, it gets more confusing from there. I'm sure you've asked this question before in the science/religion section.. Have you gotten a straight answer yet?

That's where it gets confusing. Its my understanding of how its written. But I wouldn't think that it would apply to murder.

Tell that to the judge.
He will burn your ass.

There is not a single thing you could cite that any ancient civilization knew that modern society doesn't. I challenge you to find one. I'll save you some time, we knew how the ancients built stonehenge and the great pyramids

Unfortunately I have not. The idea that you can do what you want and accept Christ near the end doesn't sit well with atheist or theists alike. There has to be some value derived from not committing sins during your life and following the teachings of Christ from the moment you understood them, otherwise it seems like empty words. Imagine I as your father, told you not to hit girls as a child. You don't follow my advice and treat them the same as you would a male friend of yours. Why would I commend you for your actions, even if you were "sorry" afterwards? It just never made much sense to me..

I have no doubt in my mind that our ancestors were intelligent. We wouldn't be where we are without them... It's a whole bunch of never ending stepping stones.

I think the only reason we would have trouble building those sort of things the same way cause we wasn't made to live in that time. they used the resources at hand for their time, as would we for this time. we evolve as time progresses.

I'm sure we have our theories but they build these things thousands of years ago.
Of course modern society knows, they wrote shit down and handed it on for a better tomorrow.

How can just dismiss these facts?

This is the reason why I usually stay away from conversations like this, because I base what I study and learn on logic and the bible isn't very logical to me.

Apparently we are unable to learn what is right and wrong without the bible. :dunce:

I'm not sure what you mean by "dismiss these facts". Our society is built upon ancient wisdom, as SGT just said, it's all stepping stones, the ancients were near the beginning of human society, so naturally we'd have improved and expanded on those ideas today. Having said that, it would seem like we've wholeheartedly accepted these facts.

The bible was written as part of history back then.
It has many, many good rules to live by.

I think we evolved into releasing what is right and wrong over the last 2000 years along with technology and everything else with guidance from the bible.

The faith part is hard for some people to believe in.

Do you accept the Bible as truth? Are you a Christian?

In other words the bible was created to control man.

I'd don't have a credibility issue......fox does. I already told you red, there is NO fox news from Canada. The fox in Canada comes from NY. .....There is no faux news bureau's inside Canada. Becase their kind of news is illegal...
So far, you have not given any evidence that what you say is true. Your refusal to do so implies there is none and reflects on your credibility. You do have a credibility issue.
