Watered today and checked the ph of runoff for each individual pot. It was lower than I would like. I'm using Pro Mix #4. Out of the four pots checked they were: 5.0ph, 5.3ph, 5.4ph, 5.4ph. The nutrient solution that was put in was 6.0ph. I flushed 4 weeks ago when i flipped to 12/12.

So, is it salt buildup that brought the medium to a lower ph? Or is the peat moss in the pro mix #4 breaking down? I didn't add any lime to pro mix when I repotted them, but did when they were in 2 gallon pots I did put some flour dolomite lime. Do you think the buffering agent has broken down already?

I'm planning on flushing next watering and then putting nutrient solution in at regular levels. Any other suggestions?

Think it is time to buy an EC meter.

Are you having problems? They look very healthy to me, frankly I am quite jealous..so don't take my advise because I am an amatuer and my plants do not look near as good as yours but in my honest opinion dont flush them just yet and run some more test..the runoff could be attributed to swing and perhaps it will stabilize soon...I wouldnt rush on to flushing just yet but perhaps that is one area were i am wrong in my approach to indoor growing..In my opinion go with a 6.5PH water & nutrient solution and proceed as normal untill you run some more tests. Out of curiosity what kind of water are you using and what is its ph normally?

IMO the peat is being the peat, but flushing never hurts (most know I flush everytime I water)

but can suggest 2 different things to try besides flushing

sprinkle some dolomite on top of your promix (tablespoon per gallon)
and/or
raise the ph of the water/nute mix going in to between 6.5 amd 6.8

Speaking on the temperatures subject, I run around 80-85F during the day and around 60-65F during the night. If you keep keep your plants in a constant environment they will adapt depending on the the strain. The more you change around your setup the more you stress out your plants basically. On the contrary it takes a lil while of trial and error before you get everything dialed in, but once you got it setup keep it CONSTANT!!! Great stuff people happpy growin!

Haven't flushed yet. Good advice. More tests are needed. Actually, i'm setting up a soil medium experiment with 5 variables and a control. i want to figure out how much dolomite lime to use in container gardening, how fast it breaks down and when it is depleted. I ground up my dolomite last time into a flour form and I think it was more calcium then my plants could handle. Now, it seems that the lime has depleted. Maybe a coarser lime is needed, but i think it must be less than the pellet sized version that take up to a year to break down.

What kind of dolomite you use riddle? I'm going to perform a flush on one plant and raise the ph of fertilizer solution on the other 5. Then I'm going to check the runoff once again. I do not make it rain, because I have been watering in the closet and concerned about humidity and standing pools of water.

Nice looking plants. Great work! :)
Thankyou. I'm working my way through your og kush grow. Nice strain. Thinking about growing it in 5 grows. (already planning that far ahead!)

Consistency is key. Trying to find the perfect control is what I've been focusing on this grow. And I'm going to continue to tinker with environment for at least the next year as seasons change and i get better feeling for grow space. I want everything to be dialed in so i can start experimenting in a couple grows (from clone stock).

Just thought about how acidic soilless gardening can be. I have to look into how fast the low ph solutions will break down lime also.

I use Espoma Organic Traditions Garden Lime
only pellets? i'm thinking about making my sunshine mix 1/2tbsp floured dolomite and 1/2tbsp pellets (per gallon). The flour I added has definitely been depleted as well as the buffer in the sunshine #4. Only added cal-mag once though.

yeah since I rain on em don't want to wash it out, so use the pellets, 1 tablespoon per gallon is how I mix it (may up it to 2 for this next grow though?

About 5 days ago I checked the ph of runoff from the pots and all of them were hovering at 5 or slightly above.

To fix the problem I flushed with 6.7ph tap water until the runoff read 5.9-6.0ph. Then I side-dressed with (1/4tsp)/gallon floured dolomite lime and misted into the medium. After that I ran a mild nutrient solution through the pots which was at 6.2ph.

Next watering I'll make sure the nutrient solution is at 6.2 and check the runoff. If the dolomite has begun to work then the runoff should be higher than the solution put in, but should stabilize between 6.5-7.0ph.
