Kevin can screw MTG and the Magats with a dozen or two democratic votes, or even the whole democratic caucus, but it will come at a price! Kevin will do anything to be speaker and by January Trump could be otherwise occupied, with Mitch's nod, he might even do this too, at least for a while. It all shortens their 2 years in power and what they can get done, if they hold hearings over J6, the witnesses will dig in their heels and be taking to the press. With the ongoing court sedition cases and investigations, it will turn into a fiasco and disaster for them. Hunter's laptop will be buried by stories of Trump and his cronies going down in flames over J6 and many of the congressional magats might be testifying before a grand jury. They can cut a deal with the democrats to at least appear sane for the next 2 years, or they can let the magats lead them to ruin. With hundreds of republicans indicted over the next year or two over J6, the fake electors and various plots and schemes.

Nancy is no longer leader, but she is still in the house, counting votes and talking to both sides. She is the magats biggest enemy and most dangerous foe in the house. She might be able to talk Kevin into something or get a half dozen moderate republicans to vote on a compromise speaker and bills. She is probably talking to Mitch too and they want to surpress the extremists, though for different reasons. Mitch sees the writing on the wall and knows they need to ditch Trumpism, Jack will take care of Trump for him.

It might take a decade, but in reality, all it would take is for solid democratic majorities in the senate and house while holding the presidency. Then a cascade effect might happen by leveling the playing field, limiting propaganda and disinformation by various means. When coupled with generational and demographic change it might lead to change on a wide variety of fronts sooner than many think. Every election cycle approximately 2 million old white voters die and are replaced by a generation who grew up with different media, technology and social values. Things are past a tipping point already, which is why the republicans are trying to cheat even more than they already are. Their extremists are clawing around in desperation like Trump clutching for anything that will keep them from sinking. You don't have to convince everybody, just win enough of a majority and then press your advantage with things like HR-1, other pro democratic reforms and voting rights, statehood for DC and Puerto Rico etc.

They never got rid of Obama care, and as their power diminishes the odds of them gaining enough control to roll back laws are reduced. The point is things are so tight now with the advantage to the democrats increasing over time, that every election cycle presents an opportunity for change. All it takes is HR1, voting rights, or even Trump walking his morons out of the GOP to tip the balance for a decade or more. The republicans are in chaos with a base of white trash and won't be reformed any time soon.

Well Nancy is lurking in the halls of congress with little do since passing on the gavel except to advise. She can count votes, cut a deal with the asshole or peel off a half dozen for a compromise candidate. Likewise on critical votes where they don't want to appear as nuts, issues like Ukraine will split them. I strongly suspect Nancy is their secret weapon lurking in the halls of congress and talking to moderate republicans from close districts. The GOP is in chaos, and she might know how to leverage their slim majority against the extremists. Donald going down with an indictment or two will help with that a lot and take the heat off the moderates.

He might get charged with murder, but the republicans would refuse to admit it happened, and still say "we will support whoever the gop nominee is"...i was thinking a lot more Lovecraftian, disembowelments, quickly escalating from there...and i could still see them trying to play it off and blame Chuthulu....

Satisfying savagery aside, I really do think the worst we can do to him is to indict him of more than one thing, then let honest prosecutors and juries speak his fate. He and his conspirators need to be processed by the law in the most implacably ordinary way.

they deserve to know ignominy, but i think they are mentally incapable of feeling shame, after a lifetime of justifying increasingly horrific behavior to themselves.
