Dyna-Gro Experiment

I have most of the dyna-gro crop trimmed up now and after sampling both strains I grew this run multiple times I am a little disappointed. The weight was there, the look was there, but the smell and flavor were not what I was used to. The smell was very noticeably less intense than it has ever been. @homebrewer in your honest assessment have you been able to overcome this using floralicious plus or any other additives? I did a crop using the same strains, in the same coco, same brand of bulbs, but used house and garden aqua flakes. The weight was similar, but the smell and flavor of the pot were much better with the house and garden. I am kind of bummed out that it ended up like this honestly.

So Guerilla, if I am understanding you right, are you saying that Blue Dream in the pic with the Coke can tastes and smells disappointing? WOW, that is hard to believe. It looks so nice. It's probably still great, just not what you are used to. I will say, that pic has a few rusty leaves that I don't like to see on my plants. I always call it phosphorus burn and I only get it when the nutes get too strong. It's amazing how little of this Dynagro is needed. I see you used another additive too that I know nothing about. I figured the Dyna was complete enough.
When I used Dynagro both bloom and FP in 10+ side by side grows, I really didn't notice any difference in taste and smell. The Dynagro usually won the side by side contests. I never used any additives just KISS method. I did gravitate back to GH Lucas formula for the time being. Peace.

LOL the bud was good. it tastes fine and smells good with dynagro. however it is noticeably less fragrant and has less of the blueberry smells than i'm used to getting with that strain. she weighed fine and she was frosty but i'd be lying if i said the smoking experience is as pleasant as it is with the house and garden crop. the phosphorus thing you mentioned could be true as the dyna-veg is 7-9-5. i never fed higher than 550ppm(1.1ec)but that seems like too much phosphorus. i am using the FP 9-3-6 this round in that room so we'll see what that does. i have used general hydro lucas method more than any other fertilizer. in dwc/rdwc i found it bulletproof. in your side by sides was it general hydro you were comparing with dyna-gro?

In regards to aroma and flavor, DG grows a very clean product. If you want the most fragrant and tasty flowers possible, humic/fulvic/sea kelp type products can be beneficial which is why I use floralicious plus. I've used Aqua Flakes before and I really liked it actually but I don't remember noticing any difference in the flavor. I do remember noticing a stronger aroma as the plants were flowering with H&G. That could be both a good and bad thing depending on where you live.

Guerrilla, yeas it was mostly GH or Floranova vs DG Bloom or DG FP. Results went both ways and the difference wasn't usually enough to note. In the end I have them both dialed in close enough for me. I usually stay around .6 -.8 EC with both of them. I think 1.1 EC is a little strong for my taste unless it is a super hungry strain. If you are set up to do some side by sides you should try it.

i can't exactly do a side by side but i have multiple rooms. i'm doing dg fp in one and hg aqua flakes again in the other this time. i'm about to pull my jacks/calcium nitrate back out next run and see how it does all the way through a coco run.

Ive used Dynagro off and on for years. Ive noticed with certain varieties that it just wasnt getting on with the line. Some strains had more flavor and aroma when using something with more sulphur, fulvics, and sea kelp. Try using something like Sweet Raw or even better Terpinator with Fulpower. Not all strains respond but some that ive grown using Dynagro ive noticed a definite and noticeable increase in flavor and aroma along with better trichome development.

Of course ive had banging strains that really do well no matter what nutrient line ive used on them. These always do well with Dynagro Foliage Pro and nothing else. But some stuff needs a little tweaking with the above mentioned additives to really get top quality when using Dyna brand nutes.

what up 91 i appreciate your input. i ordered some soluble fulvic acid and some agsil 16 potassium silicate. i'm going to use the silica in veg and the fulvic throughout combined with the dg fp 9-6-3. throw up some pics of some dg buds if you have the time.

What's your temps?
the temps in my rooms are usually around 75-80 degrees.
How so if it works with microbes and the base is chem?
i think that humic acid helps nutrient uptake no matter what type of base you're using.

sorry for the double post of the root balls. i posted em once and they didn't show up so i tried it again and they still didn't show. so i bagged it, but then at some point they all showed up.

on another note...i think that it is possible that using thrive alive b1 all the way through flower may have been detrimental to the smell and flavor of the finished product. a buddy and i just knocked down a crop of the same strains that i grew previously(blue dream, strawberry rhino, ukem) using dyna-gro 7-9-5 all the way through and there were no issues with smell or flavor whatsoever. i'm going to discontinue the use of thrive alive b-1 on my upcoming crop and see what happens.

i just ordered a 2.5 gallon jug off of ebay last night. are you running the foliage pro?
Yep foilage pro and bio ag ful power.Adding in floralicious + in late flower. This and running ph at 5.5-6.2 in coco currently with excellent success.I use it at 10ml a gallon that would last a while :)

Was not aware of this.

Fulvic or humic acid helps uptake minerals through a more natural chelation as opposed to eddha or edta.

Contrary to popular belief microbes can and do take hold in when feeding mineral nutrients. Just in severely depeleted numbers. High phosphorus amounts will knock out mycos and what not. But there usually is biological activity in a medium like coir (when inoculated) whether feeding mineral nutes or not. To what degree....depends.

I have been thinking about trying dyno nutes.
I read people are using 1/2teaspoon of FP per gallon?
Directions say to use 0.25 ml per liter.
I use 1ml per gallon and it’s plenty.
I also use Fulpower and it does help plants uptake more nutrients.
First time I used Fulpower it burnt my leaves because nutrients can be reduced by 20%.
Germinate with Fulpower and that’ll keep you wanting more.
If I had to pick minimum nutes it would be kelp,Fulpower and base nutes.
FP is kelp with some growth hormones in it.
Use it as a folar too much and plants get way too bushy.
