    Living soil dry back dilemma...

I remember reading that thread! Is Northwood still around? Great article - well I have no reason to disagree with any of the arguments there 'roots do not search for water, but for conditions that are ideal for root hairs' I also liked this... 'Growers should not just water plants. Growers...

    Living soil dry back dilemma...

Right - I think I've seen your posts about a fancy tensiometer, I googled and now want one as well. I'm a sucker for data, I'll take any I can get. This brings up an interesting point of discussion; the fact you likely need to consider moisture levels at different horizons in a living soil pot...

how do u use bluelab soil ph pen to test ph of water?

total totally agree - the 4-4-4 seemed to dump way too much N into my pots; I switched to using 2-8-4 nd then supplemented on top in my last mix that's cooking rn

    Living soil dry back dilemma...

damn those do sound good I wonder if others who use blumats in living experience N tox... Here's the deal on gram positive/negative: "Bacteria with thick peptidoglycan are called gram positive. If the peptidoglycan layer is thin, it's classified as gram negative" Basically the gram positive...

    Living soil dry back dilemma...

I forgot to note that the big issue I seem to experience with keeping a constant base moisture level in my pots is I have been getting N tox in all of my runs, I’m pretty sure that the constant moisture levels in the pots are at the very least working against me there. I’m working on really...

    Living soil dry back dilemma...

Nice argument man, I like the support - I could totally see the stress on the bacterial populations caused from dryback having a net-positive impact on successive generations. Maybe that’s comforting for those of us who have felt the dread of finding a bone dry living soil pot lol short term...

    Living soil dry back dilemma...

Thnx for the insight - so funny tho, at the end of the day it’s just seems like those of us who run living organisms it would rather die than let their pot dry out lol you make a pretty darn good point about the mass microbe death event ending Up as good for the next generation. It takes what...

    Living soil dry back dilemma...

Can we chat about the concept of dry back and how it does or does not fit in with living organic soil? I struggle with it.... lol I think the concept of how dry back benefits the grow makes sense, its almost intuitive, you can vibe with how a wilted plant must feel exactly the same way as you...

how do u use bluelab soil ph pen to test ph of water?

I use my bluelab soil pen all the time to pH solutions - nothing to it - leaving the cap on to check is like trying to pour milk with the lid on the jug Just keep the tip hydrated with the proper fluid in the tip, and make sure you keep it calibrated.

    Dehumidifier Recommendations

Looks ok, I would be a bit wary of ‘offbrands’ for dehumidifiers; they can be finicky and fail, so I’d see about trying a name brand dehu with some kind of warranty. My understanding is that people tend to get what they pay for with dehumidifiers. The Frigidair line is pretty well reviewed and...

    Time to top dress?

They look pretty happy - if anything I might be seeing some slightly burnt tips in ur pics in the last post. My guess is you have enough of what you need in the FF with castings already…presuming this is ur first run in that soil. Hopefully you start seeing some more trich production over the...

    Dehumidifier Recommendations

I picked up a 55 pint dehu, really like it but I’d suggest getting a bigger one than you need and run it outside of your tent in the room where your tent is located/drawing air from. I find dehu’s tend to throw a fair amount of heat in the discharge air, especially if it’s running more often...

    Calcium Carbonate & CaCO3

Nice! Soil pH looks like it’s on point to-boot :) This is what I’d prefer as well lol. When the ‘no need for pH in Organics’ discussion comes up, my simple response is that I totally agree, ideally you shouldn’t need to fuss around at all. But those ‘ideal’ conditions don’t always happen to...

    Calcium Carbonate & CaCO3

Yea I’d recommend the blue labs soil pen for sure, gives me info I can use to make smarter decisions. The peat naturally is naturally acidic, the gypsum/dol lime would help with buffering, can’t say for sure if the peat itself will ‘buffer’ but it does bring a pH-down effect to the soil mix...

    Rusty brown spots spreading..

Make WSC - gather a few dozen eggshells, crush them up, use a cast iron pan to 'cook' them for a while until they turn dark tan coloured with a bit of black, then use vinegar (best is brown rice vinegar, but i have a hard time finding it so i use apple cider), put the eggshells in a large...
