I use R.O. water. I think it has a pH of 6.8 or right around there. The water run-off from the soil used to be closer to 6.8, I don't know why it's so low all of a sudden.

Yes it will. The only light that won't harm the girls is a green light. But honestly your best bet is to just stay away during the night hours. If you got to work in there at night, get a green light bulb.

HPS can veg alright (although not as good as MH), but MH can't touch HPS on flower. So if you can only use one HPS is the way to go. They make HPS bulbs with extra blue in them for veg. Those bulbs are made for an entire grow cycle. You can find more info here (<---Link)
