When i was under 400 thats why i kept em short. Light penetration.I've been focusing on trying to keep mine as compact as I can, not so much due to lack of vertical space but because I know that 400w isn't going to penetrate that far.
I miss my 600w... it gave you all the penetration for indoor plants as long as they weren't too tall. Will definitely be moving up to a 600w after I move for flower and making the 400w the veg light...When i was under 400 thats why i kept em short. Light penetration.
You can definitely bleach a plant with a 400w too close But the lumens fall off faster by distance the lower the light wattage. So it is going to provide good lighting at that # of inches but the farther away you go the usable lumens are going to die off quick for plants of any height. Still for microgrows it's hard to beat a 400w.Ah contrare pierre,,,,the lumens that my 400 puts out at 8" above the canopy far exceeds the lumens my 1k produces at 24". That's why I usally keep it at 18" above the canpoy hehe. There's a chart somewhere with all that info ; !)

Still working on this one myself I think I will be able to get it within a few inches when they are older but still having heat buildup when it's shut... I haven't finished sealing it up though which i really need to do.I guess the moral of this story is to get your lights to run as efficiently and cool possible
same here, i used ot run my 400 about 5-6 " from the canaopy , they dont really get hot if you got a nice fan blowin on it....my 600 i try to keep about 14" away, a lil higher in the first week or so to create stretch so all the bud site can get light penetraion later on, then i lower the boom to 14" , i can go to 11-12" but i end up with bleached tops and leavesAh contrare pierre,,,,the lumens that my 400 puts out at 8" above the canopy far exceeds the lumens my 1k produces at 24". sorry to hear about yur loss mango ... chin up broOk didn't get as much done today as hoped. Bad news last night and worse news today. Lost a family member and weather was grey, wet, and cold.
Pulled out all the plants and gave them haircuts. Wish I'd taken before photos.
Set up the new version of the bubble coiner and put two cuttings from each plant in it. Some plants had extra cuts so I left them in little cups of water.
Cuttings from plant 8 went limp quick and I think plant 9 cuttings went limp before I was done.
Plant 10 seemed sativa domain with long spacing and thin leaves.
Hope to get these to root this time.
Plants getting a day of dark as I finish up the cab.
Think I'm going to hold off on popping more beans until I know how many roms I get rooted.
