The Religious Nuclear Bomb has been detonated.

It would seem that the burning of the Holy Book, The Koran would cause friction for some or in the case of the current upheaval in the Middle East and North Africa it could be a valid polarizing event.

So who dared burn the Koran first? It was debated that it should be the Southern USA to do that and then.. I heard nothing so I assume that passed as all things do.

But today I hear a Koran has been burned and at a dramatic point in world events.

Terry Jones defiant despite murders in Afghanistan over Qur'an burning

US pastor is showing no regrets about an act of hatred that provoked a massacre of UN staff amid deadly riots

  • Paul Harris
  • guardian.co.uk, Saturday 2 April 2011 16.38 BST
Florida pastor Terry Jones initially desisted after his threat to burn a Koran but on 20 March went ahead, sparking violence in Afghanistan. Photograph: Mario Tama/Getty Images Dressed in black robes, the white-haired Pastor Terry Jones looked down from his position in the "judge's chair" set up in the mock courtroom of his tiny church.
Judgement had been reached. A verdict had been given and now it was time for the sentence to be carried out. The "guilty" party – the Qur'an – was set in a black metal fire-proof tray.
"Give them a few minutes. Those who desire to leave. That is not a problem," Jones intoned in his gravelly monotone as his assistant pastor Wayne Sapp stood next to the book, looking solemn with his hands placed behind his back.
Despite being mostly ignored at the time by the mainstream media, what came next has sent shockwaves around the world, setting off a wave of violence in Afghanistan that on Friday rocked the United Nations mission there and on Saturday led to more fatal riots.
In the age of the internet and social media, the absence of mainstream coverage was not a problem for Jones and his tiny Dove World Outreach Centre in Gainsville, Florida. After it took place on 20 March, the Pastor's fiery punishment for the Qur'an would be streamed live over the internet and preserved via YouTube. An online poll of whether to shoot, burn, shred or drown the book had already been held.

there's a difference. here in america we have learned through education and technology that shit like that isn't a big deal.

afganistan is stuck in the 19th century in terms of education, social organization, and technology. they take things like this a bit more seriously than we do, so it's not the same....

it's not their fault their ignorant, it is our fault for exploiting that ignorance in the name of a single pastor's beliefs. i also blame the media for giving this guy too much credit. i believe it's the intelligence services of the western world making SURE all these afgans find out about a 20-member congregation acting like idiots, while making sure NO AFGANS find out about the other more moderate and open-minded christians which make up the majority of our population.....

Have we learned that Religious intolerance is okay?

Really? Since when.. The war on Cannabis as the Devil's Tool is just one of our own intolerance then slide on down to the lower levels of American Hell to lynching people of color.

Just applying a little spin to the discussion. :)

Plenty of Muslims in the U.S. Don't really see them freaking out about a book burning.

I'm a Christian but I wouldn't have a problem laying a bible and a kuran on the bbq. They are just books, good source of information. The authority isn't in the book is in the individual.

Stuck in the 19th century for sure.

wait a minute. their ignorance is no fault of theirs, but some hick preacher's ignorance is our fault? your double standards never cease to amaze me. ignorance is ignorance, no matter whose or on which continent. even education and opportunity can't rid us of a certain amount of it. if you are going to hold one group blameless for their backward thinking, how can you just turn around and lay blame on someone else for the exact same fault? i realize it's considered cool to be a member of the blame america first crowd, but y'all have to start using a bit of simple reason in your anti-american diatribes.

I wish those wingnuts were stuck all the way up into the 19th century.... often seems like they haven't left the middle ages far behind.
I'm for religious tolerance... to a degree. I think it's a bunch of crap personally, but if people aren't hurting anyone or trying to shove their shit down anyone's throat, then I'm filled to the brim with tolerance. But I don't have an ounce of it for zealots... the kind of people who would kill others over a damn book. Fucking pathetic.

How about hugs ;)

hey troll.

i didn't claim the pastor was an ignoramus. i claimed he is exploiting a truth about muslims in afganistan, they take their religion WAY too seriously, and it's because they are stuck in the past in terms of their economic situation.

and there is no doubt in my mind that western intelligence services are helping propel this idiot to fame.

but he is, now isn't he. he performed an ignorant stunt, designed to impact his audience on an emotional level and with no real meaning. his actions were crude, self-serving and pointless. in short, he was being ignorant and claiming there is some higher meaning to his actions is equally ignorant.

7 People dead because of the stunt.

When I wrote that spewing hate is done by cowards I think I was including those that get people killed.

On the one hand we need to see what the effects are and indeed seeing that the Afghani issues are much the same after a Trillion Dollars spent.
Watching the news I did see common dressed folk all around in the news video about the unrest and then the Don Johnson of Afghani Police dressed in what looked as good as what the President of the USA wears; Armani Suit gave an interview..

Now this was a Police guy that is in Afghanistan wearing snazzy Armani suits.. I realized we were looking at our Tax dollars at work.

7 people dead and the man in Florida is safe tonight. Coward.

If you really want to burn a Koran and kill people head on over to Afghanistan first.

But "WTF" on the Afghan Police wearing Armani???

Haha they take their religion way too seriously? WTF kind of comment is that?

You know those Jews and Catholics take their religion way too seriously also, hell they each have their very own Country dedicated to that religion.
