From Keith Olbermann:

If Glenn Beck, who obsesses nearly as strangely as Mr. Loughner did about gold and debt and who wistfully joked about killing Michael Moore, and Bill O'Reilly, who blithely repeated "Tiller the Killer" until the phrase was burned into the minds of his viewers, do not begin their next broadcasts with solemn apologies for ever turning to the death-fantasies and the dreams of bloodlust, for ever having provided just the oxygen to those deep in madness to whom violence is an acceptable solution, then those commentators and the others must be repudiated by their viewers, and by all politicians, and by sponsors, and by the networks that employ them.

And if those of us considered to be "on the left" do not re-dedicate ourselves to our vigilance to eliminate all our own suggestions of violence - how ever inadvertent they might have been then we too deserve the repudiation of the more sober and peaceful of our politicians and our viewers and our networks.

http://g.msn.com/AIPRIV/en-us

Here, once, in a clumsy metaphor, I made such an unintended statement about the candidacy of then-Senator Clinton. It sounded as if it was a call to physical violence. It was wrong, then. It is even more wrong tonight. I apologize for it again, and I urge politicians and commentators and citizens of every political conviction to use my comment as a means to recognize the insidiousness of violent imagery, that if it can go so easily slip into the comments of one as opposed to violence as me, how easily, how pervasively, how disastrously can it slip into the already-violent or deranged mind?

End quote...

Note how he acknowledged his past infringements, owned them, and denounced them. Now we just need the right media to follow along, along with the rest of the left...Everyone needs to address this

The TRUTH is you all desperately WISH this to be connected to the Right.

And wishing don't make it so.
so johnny, if there was nothing wrong with crosshairs next to the names of 20 democrats and it was just this perfectly innocent pile of unicorn farts you make it out to be, why did palin take it down right away?

and you are wrong. i don't wish this was connected to the right.

i wish the insinuations of violence towards elected officials never happened.

I won't turn this into a political witch hunt...I think it is enormously disrespectful to the victims.
i think it is disrespectful to the victims of this tragedy if we do not try to learn from this moment. and far from a 'political' witch hunt, i've already stated that the parents and he lack of mental health assistance were the two things that most easily could have prevented this in the first place.

Both sides are guilty, period!
yes they are, to varying extents. only one side made subtle insinuations of violence towards elected officials from the very top.

We can't have people held responsible for their own actions now can we? That would be crazy!
yeah, god forbid anyone stand up and admit and apologize for fomenting hatred.

woops, too late. olberman already did. damn him

Olbermann is a nobody. I could care less what he or any left or right wing pundit has to say. Why should anybody have to apologize for what they said? Seriously? Is this what we've become? Fomenting hatred? Give me a fucking break!!!!!! So Olbermann is being a good chess player and making a preemptive apology. Goody!!!!!!!!! Has everybody lost their fucking minds? Do you guys see what you're typing? All I've seen is this back and forth and you are trying to tell me this is somehow going to "fix" shit? I think we should try to learn from this but it quickly turns into a blame game! How about this? Why don't we wait until we have all the facts? Maybe by then cooler heads will prevail and we will all see how ridiculous all the finger pointing is. :dunce:

Well the Left/Right battle continues, but I keep reading that he's a 'pot smoker'. I know very few (none) pot smokers who would ice a 9 year old - then again, I don't know any non-pot smokers who would. The shooter is a wack job - over the years, for every James Earl Ray (right) there is a Lee Harvey Oswald (left). Squiggy Fromm (left) - Tim McVeigh (right). Chuck Manson, well Charlie is in his own camp.

We're a violent society - Left & Right, doesn't make what happened right, nor do I condone. A lot of non-Congresspeople were shot and killed, stabbed, raped, etc. this weekend. That didn't happen because Rush Limbaugh has a radio show.

Establishment will circle the wagons, and pass some laws that in hindsight would have made little to no difference, abridge our freedoms a bit more and further isolate them from the rest of us. This proposed law, where anything the Congress may deem 'threatening', that's not the way we need go.

agreed.

and yes, let's wait until all the facts come out. but until they do, what can we learn from all this from what facts we do know?

#1 - no substitute for good parents. even though he was 18+ and technically an adult, his parents might have shown more concern after he was booted from college and sought mental health services.

#2 - better availability of mental health. mental is physical and vice versa, we need to not take for granted mental health in this country. this is my own little high horse, so I will leave it alone besides this.

#3 - we need to tone down the rhetoric - both sides, one side especially. we will not be able to stop the hate speech from all, but we can hold accountable those that have a national audience...tv commentators, politicians, etc.

#4 - i am going to get reamed for this, but i still don't understand how/why a mentally unstable person was so easily able to obtain a semi-automatic weapon.

Washington Post reporting he was a registered Independent. Let's blame the moderates and Independents for the shooting!

UncleBuck, on #4, I'm not sure he had an official 'record' of instability. Haven't heard he was ever committed or convicted - more hearsay stuff. Insta-Check pulls any official stuff - if there's nothing there, innocent until proven guilty.

Too bad the real cowards are ones like yourself, throwing around epithets and assigning blame for everyone else. Plus, if you have so much bravado and are so ready for a revolution, why don't you go shoot someone? Oh, cause your a pitiful, frightened coward too. Thanks for playing.

P.S. Dear god I hope you don't identify yourself as a Christian, as any Christian knows that judgement upon others is not our duty whatsoever.
I take it by epithet you don't mean a epic poem. Why don't I shoot someone. We aren't in open rebellion because the government hasn't pushed us to the breaking point yet. Being capable and ready to do so if necessary and doing so are different things. Got to wait for the lanterns.

I am not Christian. I am agnostic. Which is the only sensible thing to be. Christians have a very tainted track record on judging other people. Worse than most any other group of people, you might be mindful of that.

With all due respect to everyone in here. Lets stop trying to make the shooter into a victim. I don't care if he had a shitty childhood. I don't care about anything in his life. He made the decision to go there armed with the intent to kill. He made the decision to aim and pull the trigger.
He is not a victim, he is a murderer. That is the problem with society today. "Why did he do it?", "What drove him to that"...I don't care!
He killed, HE IS WRONG! End of story! I am sick and tired of trying to show that criminals are victims and not responsible for their actions.
I don't care if he had a shitty life. Sometimes people do sick things for no reason other than they are bad. Why the hell do we think we need to find out what "made him to it?" He did it, he is wrong and that is that.

exactly...that doesn't sit well with me...but what the hell can we do?

surely you agree that guns should not be in the hands of the mentally unstable, yet we have little precaution to ensure this.

I heard from an unreliable source that the guy was described as a loner who smokes weed...true/false? because I am sure they will find a way to blame marijuana...

Here I will let her tell you...watch if you will..

NOW SHE SHOT IN THE HEAD...LEARN TO LEARN FROM MISTAKES OR YOU WILL KEEP MAKING THE SAME MISTAKES..

How is that anything but a politician trying to make herself look better? "I was attacked and threatened, Im taking the upper road. Im not afraid though. Republicans are evil and did this (republicans must condemn these actions in big letters at the bottom)" None of the news clips of it I saw of it, or read stated what actually happened to the window. Did they find a rock, a bullet, a boot print on the glass, did they find anything? I had a broken window once.. it was right after I filled up my motorcycle with gas and some woman was all staring at my bike. Im guessing her old man followed me home and broke my window because my motorcycle turned her on more than him. Or maybe my dog jumped up against it while I was out. Maybe I should blame the Democrats. Going on TV and pointing the finger at others because you have a broken window is stupid, especially when you have no proof of who did it. This is hardly proof that anything anyone did made this nut go shoot these people.

If you want someone to blame, its not hard to find him. Hes the one locked up singing to himself about johnny cracking corn that was shooting at them.

you mean the 1 and 6 year old lists? you mean the ones that were not published by a political celebrity who also clamored "don't retreat, INSTEAD, reload!". who then wrote "In the battle, set your sights on next season’s targets! From the shot across the bow – the first second’s tip-off – your leaders will be in the enemy’s crosshairs*, so you must execute strong defensive tactics. You won’t win only playing defense, so get on offense! The crossfire is intense, so penetrate through enemy territory by bombing through the press, and use your strong weapons – your Big Guns – to drive to the hole. Shoot with accuracy; aim high and remember it takes blood, sweat and tears to win."

how the heck were THOSE not relevant?

context, johnny. context.

Its called a metaphor.

just your normal, run of the mill tea party event. no attempt at all to associate removing gabrielle giffords from office using an automatic weapon. nope, none at all. simply an illusion. a pure illusion.
Seriously? Ok.. show of hands... who wants to shoot a fully automatic M16? It's like offering ice cream to kids for cleaning their rooms, I bet some liberals went to shoot the gun too. They aren't saying lets go gun her down.
