I would go at least 4------If they really start to stretch you can go lower. For the most part your problem came from just putting them straight under the 600 light---like nutrients, plants can grow to handle more over time and the same with light---you have to do some"light hardening"

Its like getting a tan---You have to build up to it or burn but once you have a tan you can stay out in the sun all day.:bigjoint:

Yup i know what your saying, i wanted to use cfl to veg but other party didn't agree, it was originaly about 3 ft away the day they sprouted, but they were stretching on day 3 or 4, so we lowered it half a foot the stretching halted but then this lol

Doc, when you post the pics of your girls....if you don't mind, post a pic of your light setup. You say your using a 40w, I would like to compare it to my setup so I can improve mine.
Thanks bro

They look great. So what do you think of the germanation method? Have you found it to be easy? How about fast?

i found it to be the easiest way and by far the fastest way i have done it .
when i first started i just placed the seed in the dirt and it took so long for it to pop up. i could have had a lot bigger plant in the same amount of time had i known then what i know now. i also feel the same way about the light i have now the growth is just that much better from when i had them under the cfls.but that's just my Hubble opinion

Doc I need you help. Heres my grow they are 1 week old now after transplant, most of them look good but some of them are sickly! im really worried about 3-4 of them. The first week i watered 4 times and fed them only one of those times, at a mild 300ppm mix. The pH has been a steady 6.2 and the light approx 24 inches from them (1000w metal halide). Can you identify the problem thats causing this leaf detereoration? lemme know

Photos: One plant is healthy and the others are affected with some maladay. About 85% of the crop looks good though.
Could be a couple of thing----1. General Blight---You could try the doc's blight dip recipe and see if that takes care of it. 2. Looks more along the lines of a recessive genetic leaf deformation(sometimes crosses and unstable hybrids show leaf deformation like this) and will show up on a very small percentage of plants grow from the same seeds. All the other plants look healthy so that would be my observation.
DOC'S BLIGHT DIP RECECIPY(also good for transplanting)-
4 gallons clean low ppm water
26ml H2O2
4 teaspoons NEEM
4 drops super-thrive
8 drops liquid ivory soap

mix all ingredients well in 5 gallon bucket and PH to 6.3. Then take plant out of container(pot) and dip entire plant, root ball and all in solution. Have a clean pot the same size ready or wait to dip plant until you have washed inside of pot well and dip pot into bucket as well---put plant back into pot and under normal lighting---If it's general blight the plant will respond back to normal vegetative growth in 3 day to a week.
note: Hold the root ball with open fingers and slide the whole plant in and out of the dip--The dip time should be close to 2 secs and not much more or the root ball will start to break up.

Your is probably great or even better than mine but I am trying to do this class for new growers and at the lowest energy cost possible. Will post the pics as I said within hours

WIll you tell which nutes you used and how much and your ppm?
Yes I will:-P

Nice thanks for the info.

why u ignore my question doc :(
Not on purpose---Just plain missed it somehow--the question was close to another post so I thought I had answered it. Above--sorry.:wall:

Congratulation!!!-- You have now made it through the germination and seedling phase of growth. We are now going to Feed for the first time in the next couple of posts. Great job guys!!!

First I want to go over a few things.

Pic #1----Shows all the plants and to the right is the same 20 watt(I said 40watt in all the other posts but after a closer look I found out it's a 20watt single) that would cost you about $1.45 for a month of operating 24/7.
Pic #2----Side view---I wanted to show that when a plant is very healthy the leafs lay flat.
Pic #3----Top view---In this pic you can see a healthy symmetrical plant growth. Notice that the tips on all leafs are in the same condition as the rest of the leaf-There are no leaf distortions---The leaf margins/stems/veins are an even green(not to dark/not to light).
Pic #4---Someone had asked in a previous post for a pic of the light I used---There it is----5.95 at WAL-MART--20watt. I maintained it 1" above the tops from day one 24/7--I also used the same light on top of the humidity-dome while in germination.

This is what the DOC does for the first feed:

I take a gallon container and fill it with 1/2 gallon RO water
I then add
1.25ml Iguana-Juice grow-----This is a organic base NPK
3.75ml Fox FARM Big Bloom---This is also an organic base --
1.25ml Cal/Mag plus------I use cal/mag plus because RO has little
2.5ml Power thrive Plus (green)----sea kelp is great for plants plus B1
1.0ml CARBOLOAD-----simple/complex sugars for beneficials/fungi
7.5ml VOODOO juice------organic root booster----beneficials
1/2 gram Piranha----------organic myo fungi
1 drop super thrive--------vitamins/rooting hormone
This brings my PPMs to about 350---I then add more RO water till the ppms reach 220----Now I check my Ph----It's 5.2 so I add PH-UP till I get to 6.3-----the PH-UP has also raised my ppms so now I'm at 250ppm's with a PH of 6.3. I will now feed the plants-I will feed at least enough that 10% drains out of the bottom of the cups. Now back under the light-------------------easy.

Do you feed everytime you water? Or every other time?

While in this vegetative phase of growth I feed with every-other watering---I also increase my PPMS with each feed by 50ppms for the first 2 weeks of vegetative growth-I then increase my feeds by 100ppms until I reach 650ppms. I will keep my ppms @ 650 until 2 weeks before I take clones then I increase my PPMS to 750. I never go over 750ppms in the veg cycle while in soil.

they are coming along. what do you all think ?.... thay are now 15 days old .

View attachment 301700
Now we can compare the growth----all pics are after 15 days of growth--Itz40055 were grown under a 400watt MH
My plants were grown under a single 20watt floro. You can see that the MH has grown plants a little larger with slightly less stretch. A 400mh will cost you about 14.50 for 31 days of operating 24/7. The 20watter will cost you about 1.50 for 31 days of operating 24/7.

black gold, pearlight, 1 crushed up jiffy plug. Hey found a good mag. All most too good for my old eyes. It is 30x-100x hard to get a good look.

The reason I asked was that a couple of the plants have very minor leaf twist--this is common to low soil PH. Not a big problem or threat but when you get a chance pick up some dolomite lime(garden lime and add 2 teaspoons to each cup--work and water into the soil with your next watering.
