Putin is such an idiot in that his lands offers so much future potential, and after the iron curtain removed the W-E relations got better for a time, which would have offered him plenty of opportunity to further develop his country.
It would have been in our (EU) interest as well.
Maybe a future trans-atlantic free-trade zone be better, Russia is just too unstable/irrational for trade policies or investments....

sanctions are only peripherally about helping anyone, they're meant to make it much harder for a dictatorial fuck like putin to afford to wage war...they're also meant to make it a lot harder for the subjects of those dictatorial fucks to be distracted from what their evil piece of shit leaders are doing..Hilarious

Tough call. I think a lot depends on the people. For example, harsh sanctions on Iran have actually caused people to get behind their government more than caused them to be pissed off about them.
Who knows with Russia these days. Russians have shown a tendency to get real flakey when there isn't a boot on their neck.

it's all part of an exclusionary deal...they get NOTHING that we can stop them from getting, if there was a way to sanction oxygen, they'd all be flopping on the floor like fresh caught fish right now.
everything means something...i would suppose it's a popular show in russia, and now the fans will be thinking about how putin's war shut them off from it...not a major victory by any means, but another straw on an already overloaded camel's back...

Extremely popular indeed. Final viewers relatively on par with the super bowl. 1 out of 3 Moscoweianianers with a TV watch that shit. It’s very inclusive. No Russian or Kroatian homophobe watches it. Economic sanctions they can blame on governments and leaders in the west, but when they figure out they can’t join Eurovision song festival they’ll be confronted again with how much europe hates them right now. It’s a laughable event, especially if you think it’s about good music and singing, but it’s a nice cherry on top of other sanctions.
