Its not a black on black problem, its an institutional problem. But its not institutional racism in this case, its socioeconomic.

'I heard your call for "no justice, no peace,"' Mosby said defiantly.

'Your peace is sincerely needed as I work to deliver justice on behalf of this young man.'

She made the decision to bring charges despite a plea from the Fraternal Order of Police local president Gene Ryan, who wrote to Mosby insisting none of the officers were culpable.

'All death is tragic. And death associated with interaction with police is both shocking and frightening to the public,' Ryan wrote.

'As tragic as this situation is, none of the officers involved are responsible for the death of Mr Gray. To the contrary, at all times, each of the officers diligently balanced the obligations to protect Mr Gray and discharged their duties to protect the public.'

So, because in this case, the driver of the van was black, all of the data that shows disproportionate rates of police brutality towards black people is refuted?

Agree that data show police brutality is also visited upon the poor more often than on wealthy (duh). Police beatings of people with dark skin happen at disproportionate rates regardless of economic status -- this is where the term "driving while black" comes from. In this case, Grey was doing nothing wrong prior to his death at the hands of the police. He just happened to be walking while black.

The percentage of blacks beaten by cops is indisputably higher for blacks than for whites. This is a fact. How do you explain that?

To follow the direction you are going with your statement, it sounds like your are saying that because not every white police officer is racist, the disproportionate beatings of blacks is not racially linked. By this logic, not all falling objects cause injuries therefore no falling objects cause injuries.

When Rand Paul launched his presidential bid in early April amid an array of diverse faces, he talked about focusing on the inner cities and the other America, a place where “people experience a daily ugliness that dashes hope and leaves only the fatigue of despair.”

But three weeks into a campaign where he’s promised to broaden the GOP’s base of support in some of those places, he’s missed critical opportunities to change the party’s dialogue with minority communities.



On Tuesday, as Baltimore burned in the wake of the latest episode surrounding the alleged use of deadly excessive force, Paul’s response was notably off-key.

“I came through the train on Baltimore last night,” Paul told host Laura Ingraham. “I’m glad the train didn’t stop.”

The senator’s breezy response came just before he blamed the violent uprising there on “the breakdown of the family structure, the lack of fathers, the lack of sort of a moral code in our society.” He also expressed his sympathy for “the plight of police,” all without speaking to the circumstances surrounding the troubling death of Freddie Gray in the custody of Baltimore Police.

His camp now acknowledges the lost chance.
