i actually shot 82 that day on a course rated 75.5. and i only have three beers per 18 holes to avoid getting a DUI on the way home. i have never been so drunk as to shit myself, but i bet you have been (often).

I wasn't arguing with you, just pointing out that all governments/societies fall, whether coercive or not. The greatest ones seem to last about 250 years, but in the end, some revolution, natural disaster, plague, economic collapse, or whatever occurs. Act of God, innate shortcoming of man, or just the odds catching up; I don't know, but history has been pretty consistent. We think we are somehow different, it won't happen to us, but so did those who fell before us. Our technology hasn't changed the nature of man. It is nothing but arrogance to assume WE are immune.

I think that gives me a bit more credibility than I might have otherwise- and perhaps a bit more of both justification and bully pulpit.

Every time you complain about things like minimum wage not being high enough you are essentially saying that you are not paying enough for products and services and that your fees and charges should be higher.

Except that this is made all but meaningless in the face of increasing automation, wildly disparate taxes and representation before the law and government... the list is endless and has been remunerated plenty on this site.
Do you really expect the current state of affairs, where the contract of employment security in return for hard work and competence has been irretrievably broken, to return a fair wave to those deliberately disenfranchised?
I'm a business owner and I pay the money that cashes real paychecks. I pay them as much as I can afford to, because I know good and well that my prosperity and perpetuity depend on good people working hard, rather than sexy grow toys or shortcuts.
What do you suppose I get in return? Why doesn't McDonald's or Wal-Mart care to pay enough for the same respect?

Because their business models are built upon low pricing to the consumer. Their customers don't give them respect, or patronage, if they raise prices.

it's about squeezing every last out of your "backbone" (that drives the business) in order to produce just one more penny of dilution.

Are you referring to corporations and not businesses? The minimum wage raise affects them all.
Yes, corporations are interested in profit because that is how they COMPETE for the investment dollars that they use to acquire assets and grow. To do that they have to make their customers happy because there are always other companies out there trying to get their market share. And they have to pay their employees a competitive wage comparable in the industry or risk losing the good employees to their competition.
Corporations do not pay their employees salaries, the customers pay the salaries in the cost of the products and services they buy from the corporation and/or business. If you raise the costs then you raise the price of the goods and services and therefore it is YOU that will be paying the extra bill. The corporation in the mean time is still fighting to keep its prices low and costs low because there are other corporations fighting for that same market share.
Who are you trying to help? It isnt going to help the little guy because his cost of living is going to go up. It isnt going to help the business owner who has to pass on the costs. It does help the government in increasing it's tax revenue however... The government aint doing it out of the goodness of it's heart, it has a direct financial reward for doing it.
God bless Amerika.... Where the minimum wage is 50,000 per year and the unemployment rate is 99.5%...
