You Can't Afford A One-Bedroom Apartment On Minimum Wage

I was, I'm one semester removed from my B.S. No jobs.
Was gonna suggest the bridge program. Good on ya.

Where are you that there are no nursing jobs? You live in an area where they have nursing school factories? I lived in a town with 10K people and there were 3 colleges that had nursing programs. Some of the lowest paid nurses right there in that town.

This is what i saw happen..it's a small example. 5 yrs ago there was a huge demand for medical billing people around this area..everyone was told to get training..go to school. My mother went to school for it..by the time she got out..so many people had gone that route that the job market was completely dead by the time she was certified. I think it happens alot., "we need more people trained in this area" so a shit load of people think.."I"m going to go to school and get a job there, there is plenty of opportunity"..then after 2,3 4 yrs of school..which has been pumping out people in these fields while you were learning..you realize that job segment isn't as robust as it was when you started 2,3,4 years ago..now you have a degree that's worth, maybe , the paper it's printed on..

Around here a 1 person studio is $600-$700/month..and you'll be dodging crackheads and hookers every time you leave..also..don't park your car within 5 miles of your apartment if you care about it..oh and you should probably invest in a gun or a big F'ing knife...oh yeah..and these places are nowhere near where the jobs are so now you have an hour commute each way to get to your shitty min wage job to pay for your shitty apt where you'll probably get stabbed and die in the hallway..in a puddle of some vagrants piss...

So who all all these hard working, upstanding citizens who have mysteriously and at no fault of their own, who have found themselves living with crack heads and hookers?

I used to live in Ocala, but now Jax. I'll probably never finish that degree, right now I teach at a PMC facility in southern GA. I wanna get into property management though.

This guy gets it.

Incorrect, hospitals are phasing out LPN positions, forcing them to move to rehab facilities(nice word for nursing home). The two classes before me as well as the class I would have graduated with are only 15% employed.

Yup, they sure are.

Also for years there has been a dramatic increase for in home care.

Sounds like opportunity knocking for a phased out LPN to get our from under the man and do what they love on their own.

The internet is where all the jobs went. It sounds like you said to somebody that you were making money posting here and you never answered me about it, so you have it figured out. Why would someone go to the store nowadays when you can buy stuff online cheeper than driving to the local store? Don't you think that has something to do with job creation?

Why do you think all these empty store fronts are still empty? I believe it doesn't pay to compete with big business when shipping is free and products are cheeper online. The very tool you use to bitch about things, is part of the reason things are going in the shitter with job creation. imo
Are you saying you make money posting on this forum?

I make money drawing all day
THANK YOU for posting that last bit "imo"

That's what it is, your opinion. I'm fully open to the idea, and I suspect you're partly right, ease of access and the internet plays a part in the equation (and will be more significant as time passes and technology gets better), but you can't simply conclude that to be the case or indeed, the main cause of such slow economic growth and limited job creation without the evidence to back it up. Show me some numbers, something I can measure or test, anything. That's where the meat of this conversation lies. Although I value opinions, they don't answer anything conclusively and that's what's important.

Meh, there's an argument to be made for kids growing up in those circumstances clawing to get out. Good jobs tend to not end up in those areas. I don't believe the solution is to make jobs in that area pay more though for many reasons already discussed.

Wait, so someone said, "We need XYZ right now" and they still expected the demand to be there a fucking half decade later?

If you wait for someone to say to the masses "GO GET IT" expect the masses to be running along side of you.

The people who saw market trends, and can keep up with such things, pulled that trigger 10 years ago, so the day the demand hit full tilt, there weren't in school, they were in line for a job.

#4 and it still sucks. Not making a good case for your argument.

I made a great case.. even showed you labor department stats. The first thing to recognize is that as a new nurse
you are still a dumb ass (no insult intended) like all new college grads.
You have to get experience and that is easily done just not necessarily at a "nice 'facility"
You have to remember all new grads are still dumb asses and it takes a min year experience.
Perhaps you should take a look at why people dont like you enough to hire you.
.

Ironic. That town I was talking about was Dublin GA. The hospital there went through a nursing shortage 10 years ago, brought in 30 foreign nurses to cover and every school in the area started a program.

I used to ride my bike down HWY 1 to Jax a few times a year, pretty area.

I highly recommend not nursing if that's not your calling, nothing worse than unhappy nurses.

Yeah because we all have magical crystal balls that will tell us what the job market will be like in 3,5,10 yrs..i went to a Voc school for machining in the early/mid 90's..when i started school it was $18-$20 STARTING pay, after 4yrs in Voc i couldn't find a starting wage over $11...but i guess i should have know the economy would tank...oh and i guess i should have known the crash of '08 was coming and started going to school back in '02 so when i lost my job I'd be right on top of the next hot market...:wall:..wizardry!!!!:dunce:

I have a job. A really good job. You're a bad troll though.

I loved nursing, part of the reason I got out was I felt the healthcare industry has lost sight of what's important.

A motorbike right? If you peddled from Dublin to Jax... you're my new hero

What about the people that didn't?

Is your solution to just say "fuck em"?

Seriously give this some thought

i totally agree..and you're going through school and just supposed to switch up majors? unless you have the insight to choose the more 'universal' chemistry as opposed to your degree's required chem which is the version selected to highlight the necessary components of said degree.

as we all know pada, not every course translates over to another degree..my daughter said kids come in and cry (female and male) when they find out they've fucked up on their schedules..it's heartbreaking..i know my own struggles with .edu and then i think..i have all this life experience..college shouldn't be too hard to navigate? it is..i feel for millenials on this..truly.
