Woo Getting First Tattoo!

Go for it! Once you've done your research and you're absolutely sure, then go for it. The only thing I don't like about tattooing in the states is the price. Most artists want $100/hour and I like big tats. I traveled outside the states and saw how much less expensive it is in other countries and that spoiled me. The most challenging thing to me is finding an artist that I connect with on a level other than the money. Jeeba gave good advice about eating before you go, and don't drink alcohol. As far as the ointment, I've always kept it simple and used regular vaseline lotion. As long as it's kept clean and moisturized there's no need to use ointments for healing. Keep it out of direct sunlight for extended periods until it heals. The body is pretty good about scabbing up and healing itself. Congrats. Namascar.

This is the best advice in the thread imo. I regret mine alot. That being said, I like the one you picked. What's wrong with the headdress?
Nothing really, but i got the tattoo off of google, and already know alot of people have it, saw a few copies of it in google images, so I want an orginal headpeice, so that I dont have the same tattoo as other people. I do love it as is though

If he's good, he can draw a new version of it just using the original concept, so it won't look exactly like the one you posted. Aside from my Celtic cross, all mine are one of a kind. I brought him a pic on the concept andy he made it original and better than the pic

I've never understood why people would put artwork on their body that they would never put on their walls. But to each his own. :)

i have tons of tattoos and regret NONE. jsut ask the artist how to properly take care they have different answers but roughly the same shit. they usually have stuff you can put on your tatt to heal it properly in store. dont cheap out you need to buy it.

lol Maybe you should get a "tramp stamp". Right above your ass, have a sign titled something like "CAUTION! Hazardous gases". I always thought that would be hysterical on a girl.
I had a friend who knew a chick who had a tat there ... an arrow pointing down, like the "pick nose here!" style from The Last Airbender. The text was EXIT ONLY. cn

Okay, but that's like telling god he doesn't get to wear his crown. That's Ganesh's topper man, ya know? Otherwise it's just a random fancy elephant head. He had a human head until Siva, his father, lopped it off by mistake when he was high on bhang. The elephant head is a replacement.

My point is don't put a god on your body and then decide you are going to change the way god looks, right? God changes you, not the other way round.

Lol i asked him to do a take on this, which basically means keep everything but the headdress, and make me a new headdress

I am starting a new business. I will use this thread to conduct it. Post pictures of your Chinese character tattoos and for $20 I will tell you what they really mean.

I agree, he (the tattooist) agreed to change the head peice slightly, but for the most part keep it the same

Let's see. You are self-conscience about your appearance (size) and you are getting a tat of an elephant? Does anyone else see a problem here?
I know, does seem weird, but its the meaning and beauty behind the thing. Honestly, if people say its an elephant tattoo because Im fat, its just them being stupid. I dont care about the connations of fat in this tattoo, because the meaning is so much more important to me
