since mr. kone is speaking my mind better and more succinctly than i ever could, allow me to talk about what i've been up to in the garden.

about a week ago i laid down some sweet walla walla onion starts, about 120 or so. the soil was not ready to till, but i tilled anyway because planting right into the clay would have been a fail. i had some room leftover so i threw down some yukon gold potatoes as well, about a dozen.

today i planted 4 blueberry plants: chandler, liberty, sunshine blue, and pink lemonade. the sunshine blue will be ready by june or so, the rest in august. they say the chandlers get pretty big.

oh, and i also have a tilton apricot and a flavor king pluot tree, but no companion trees to pollenate them. but they would not produce any fruit this season anyway as they are new trees.

i just germinated my catnip seeds, and have some iceberg lettuce germinating and some cat grass.

it's been a wet march here in portland. gotta go switch out the hay in the chicken coop tomorrow. i think i will pick up some high quality feed for them too, since the weather is getting warmer (if not drier) and they should start laying soon.

pics to follow.

Sweet Garden,,,I'm going Bed......
thanks! this is only the beginning. march has been unusually wet. not as bad as last year when it was full la nina, but still pretty bad.

once the weather warms, i will be laying down over 200 corn seeds, as well as several varieties of tomatoes and peppers. not sure what else at this point, but i'm certain i will think of more than a few others.

in the meantime, impatience will likely get the better of me and i will be putting down some other cold weather favorites. i saw some bean and pea starts the other day that were calling my name. also, i think i will have to lay down some asparagus and artichokes just to see how they grow.

this garden will line the perimeter of my property (the back yard, at least). in the middle of all this goodness, i will construct a greenhouse. dimensions will be approx 13 feet wide, 32-40 feet long (depending on material cost), and about 12 feet tall at the apex, 8 feet at the walls. you can probably guess what will be grown in there :) i will have it built by may 15th and plant shortly thereafter.

The jury is still out on that.

Historically, of the two Presidents we have had who could most closely be considered dictators; one was Republican and one was Democrat.

Abraham Lincoln and F.D.R.

F.D.R. has an edge because after the second term he was "President for Life."
I agree with you on FDR. Although he is my favorite president he overstepped his constitutional authority on a regular basis. Good thing too, it needed to be done.

Lincoln is a little different. While he did wield incredible unprecedented power, but he had little choice in the matter.

I don't want to seem overly paranoid, but do you believe something could happen in the near future?
Yes. The circumstances are right for something like that to happen. Not just here either, but across the world. Although, especially here. Americans collectively will believe just about anything if it's marketed correctly, I think that could include selling them a dictator. The reason it's possible is because of the poor economic conditions combined with the obvious growing disconnect between the people supposedly representing us and the people. If a dictator struck an emotional bond with the people and delivered on some of the big reoccurring empty promises that our politicians have been feeding us for years, he would have the support of the people.

The scary thing about that for this country is that if we ever had a dictator seize control and successfully consolidate power, we would never go back to a democracy. Our military is simply too strong for the people to overthrow the government. If a dictator had control over that military it would be game over.

I'm confused..
What does Gardening have to do with Wisconsin?

Has the attention span been exceeded?

Some diversion is fair .. Shanghai is out.

Any News or Brain Death for the Gardeners?

Not really. It's actually pretty clear.

1) The unions didn't cause our financial problems, wall st bankers and the wealthy did. Yet rather than make them pay their fair share they are trying to shift the burden entirely on working class people while cutting taxes for the rich even further.

2) The unions made all the financial concessions that were asked of them and that still wasn't enough for Walker. All he was interested in was union busting.

3) The tax cuts he gave to corporations and the wealthy came out to the same amount of money he cut from the unions. That's transferring wealth, class warfare, and all that fun stuff. Not an economic crisis.

Oh yeah, that's where our economic problems come from. Janitors and their lavish feasts of top ramen and looking all smug with their fancy bus passes.

Pay no attention to the fact that the top 400 wealthiest people in America make more than the bottom 160 million Americans, it's those damn decadent janitors who want to be able to afford excesses like food and housing when they retire instead of sleeping in a refrigerator box under a bridge like they are supposed to.

Yeah, that's why we are in economic trouble.

GTFO

It's about cutting pay/services to working class people so we can give rich people bigger tax cuts. Anyone who can't see that is a fool.

It's nothing more than class warfare. Unless you are a member of the ultrawealthy class you are losing that war. Why you'd want to support the ultra wealthy against your own interests is beyond me. I guess PT Barnum was right, there really is a sucker born every minute.

It's about making rich people even richer and then blaming working class people after the rich have sucked up all the countries wealth leaving the middle class out on their asses.

Yes it is. That's exactly who we're talking about. Janitors aren't living on stock dividends or their inheritance.

Congratulations on buying into a pack of lies perpetrated by the very people who are really causing our country's financial problems. You're a good little pawn.

Yeah, right on. That Organic guy really doesn't have a clue. I've watched him for almost 4 years and he is definently clueless to what is really happening, or maybe he is just a right wing duchebag, one of those guys with no compassion in his souless body, either way he is wrong. It is a class war and the upper class is definently winning. When we, the people, bitch about it, then it becomes a class war against the rich and powerful, such hypocrites as I've ever seen, the right and the teabaggers, yeah, "government keep your hands off my medicare", Idiots all.

I thought the unions took care of their union members, guess not, the dues the 3.2 million union puppets just goes into somebodies pocket wonder whos? I was wondering how much money the unions has put out to recall politicians keep marchers on site and signs. Be proud puppets of the unions, and send your fucking dues.

It goes into the pockets of politicians in exchange for influence. Unless you're a billionaire, you should be glad it does. Almost every major financial donor besides unions are corporate interests. We have no one except the unions influencing the government on behalf of working class Americans.

Puppets? They're fighting for their rights. The real puppets are the people taking the side of the people who created the financial crisis against working class Americans.

When does the ground war begin?
same time the 'complete corporate takeover of the food supply' does :-o

it might be a while, farmer's markets are coming up soon. somehow, contrary to the musings of several full-frontal lobotomy morons who predicted the doom that would be ushered in by the bill i am referencing, farmer markets are alive and well.

go figure. the sky is not falling.

i'm going to go harvest some weed now.

I always I know I have had a productive run when I am the subject of a rant courtesy of Uncle Pervy.

And this time, two in a row!

It made my day.

What are you talking about, Buck?

I can only assume it's another thread.

I'll try to find it ASAP. If I don't get there in a timely manner PM me a link.

EDIT: Post-Edit, I know.

But I'll make this exception since we are not really discussing anything germane to the topic.

I think I found it. I'll look around. Meanwhile I've got my own haters in https://www.rollitup.org/black-briefcase/416335-just-got-jacked-while-dealing.html .

I made a comment about the primary reason I started growing being low-life dealers and it started a SHITSTORM!

I even earned my first infraction. I'm not complaining, though. :-P

I earned it fair and square.

I hope that all you guys that are against collective bargaining have your own business...If not then you kinda stupid fighting against something that may work for you.
That is part of the problem. You only consider what you gain in things you can measure. Freedom isn't something you can put on a scale and measure. Your statement ignores the fact that it is immoral to begin with. It could be applied to the issues of racism or other things in the same manner. "If your white, its stupid to fight for racial equality"
