Which LED for my 4x4?

The proof is in the production. I measure the quality in grams per watt, and the spider farmer has delivered efficiently and without complaint. If your setup delivers for you, that's good too. :peace:

I also think running them that hard is unnecessary. They are designed to cover a 2x2 area each, 30-40w per sq ft is the sweet spot for LED’s which is 120-160w. They are powerful and require a decent height above the canopy so running them harder will just require you to hang them even further away and they will be less efficient.

I would run all 4 of them on an HLG-600h-54a driver. That way if one goes out the other 3 can still safely handle the excess current.

I would pass on the reflectors. Not needed IMO.

Yes I wouldn't run them at 220, but at 80% power. I'd like to have the option to really crank it if I add co2 and point a monkey fan directly at the lights. I just see HLG sells them as a fixture and they can handle the 220 no problem. They do have the additional aluminum in those, though.

Is there a model with just slightly more power if I want it for the 4? Like 660 or 720? Something that can pull the 160/180 out of each of them, instead of 220.

What model would I need if I'm going to use 2 drivers? The 320xxx or 340xxx...I really don't know what the numbers are. A precise model number would be awesome

Thanks for your help btw. Yeah, I figured the reflectors wouldn't do much other than concentrate it very slightly under a smaller footprint. In a tent it would be negligible, so I'm going to save the 48$ plus shipping on the reflectors lol.

A lot of people like to use 6 in a 4x4. Some started with 4, and then added 2 more later.

I feel exactly the same now. It's a serious investment. I'll be saving untold thousands just on the fact I'm not going to spend money on buds anymore. I want the best out there within reason. There are lights that are 2k$ plus for a 4x4 but the price to performance ratio isnt there. I get the same performance with a 750$ light. Spending less you will see a noticable performance drop, according to what I read. I'm no expert, but I've done so much research since the start of this thread it's crazy. I'm happy I went HLG. It fits all my nitpicking criteria and is in my budget. I do like the G8 lights, though after my research. They're just slightly too much for my budget right now.

Anyone have thoughts on the G8 lights vs HLG? I hear they have more even coverage, better numbers, a longer warranty, plus UV and IR boosters. Does it performs better than an HLG RSpec?

I'm not regretting my buy, just wondering what you guys think about those lights.

You need a 54v driver. Two of the HLG-320H-54A, HLG-320H-54B, or HLG-320H-54AB drivers would work fine.

To break down the model numbers the middle number (320H) is the wattage, the last number (54) is the voltage. The last letter (A, B, AB) is the dimming style.

The A style has 2 internal pots, which are small Phillip screws that control current (io) & voltage (vo). The A/AB will also put out considerably more wattage than they are rated when cranked to max. The downside to the A series is that you can only dim to 50%.

The B style requires you to wire an external potentiometer in order to dim but you can dim all the way down. You can’t control the voltage on B series drivers.

The AB style is exactly what it says, it has the features of both.

yeah I’m glad I went with HLG, it was that or a cob light like optic or cal lights.

I've spent thousands, but I've also saved thousands, and now have all the equipment. I think if you spend $1000 on lights, it will pay for itself the first round if you do stuff right. Shit I've spent a grand at Build a Soil alone, but I have decent soil now and lots of dry amendments. I've been tempted many times to buy some 96's, even though I don't need more lights at all right now.

Wow, you know your drivers. Thanks so much that makes everything very easy. Ill probably go for an A series as 50% dim is probably the lowest I'd go and I want to keep the wiring job as simple as possible. Plus I can crank if needed (probably won't ever be needed, though)

I cringe every time I log into my Greenpoint account and see the $1500 I’ve spent on seeds from a single breeder. I don’t even want to know how much I’ve spent on seeds in total. I just tell myself they’ve paid for themselves 10 fold.

Building DIY lights is addicting too. I’ve got myself contemplating building strips to replace all the fluorescents in my garage just for the hell of it. Just need to figure out some sort of diffuser lenses.

Crazy all the hobbies/addictions that stem from growing.
 
Ok my kits arrived, I got 2 HLG-320-54A coming. Do I need anything else that isn't included? Like a power cable, WEGOS, extra wiring, those waterproof screw on covers to connect larger wires, etc?

I'm making a hardware store run and want to make sure I got everything I need. I was stupid and forgot to research these simple things.

Ha I’m waiting on my 600 RSpec right now too but still looking at lights. I’m actually considering the timber led (cob)

Hah if I didn't grab 4 of the QBs, Timber was my 2nd option for a DIY. I really dig the pinned heatsink designs for some reason. I went with the QBs bc they were on sale, they have a fuller spectrum, and I didn't have to research lens angles. I think it was Optic that had some interesting DIY kits with both cobs and ufo style led boards with much smaller pinned heatsinks and easier hanging.

Those prebuilt HLG225's they sell use a larger heatsink than come with the QB96 kit. I use 6 QB96's in a 4x4 run usually between 75 to 85 watts each. These are powerful lights, and unless you have a lot of headroom you won't want to be cranking them up that high. At 220w you definitely need active cooling with the standard heatsink.

@Deleena24 if you really consider buying a light from alibaba, you need to dig deeper into how it is organised. actually the companies have their own subsites where you find their product only. Actually i did a lot of researching and found that especially kingbrite, indexgrow and umol technilogy offer quite good gear for fair price. Just google company name + alibaba and you'll get there. As soon as I will upgrade my Growspace Ill definitely get one of their lights. I mean, its the same parts built in there, just a different label. Hope this helps, cheers
