Not a lot of pics yet. But enough to tell the tale. I've been working hard trying to dial things in, finish up the update to my cabinet build journal (shameless plug) and keep these five beautiful girls alive! For those who like to read the last page first here's my last journal update:
Date: 4/15/10 1:45pm
Water Temp: 70.3*
PH: 6.39
TDS: 352ppm
EC: 730
Air Temp: 79*
RelHum: 44%
Notes: Plants under dome with wet paper towels. Filtered tap water, PH adjusted from 8.3. No nutes.
Okay...no distractions for 35 minutes so here we go.
Day 1
I knew I had one evenings worth of work to do and to give me the motivation, I went ahead and purchased my clones. I wanted to stay away from Sativa dominant strains so between two different dispensaries I was able to get five different strains to experiment with. 3 clones are in 1" rockwool cubes and the other two are in a material I'm not familiar with but it's brown, spongy, seemingly inorganic and holds itself together well. Here is one shot before buttoning up the cabinet for the first night.
One further back. You can see the air tube coming in through the passive air intake. I also raised the container up closer to the lights. However, this is the mother reservoir, it will eventually sit on the bottom and I'll have a separate clone area. 7-up can is for perspective. The fan on the left is on low to keep air moving. 79* and 36%rh is not great but it's really late. Everything is moist and perky, water will be ready tomorrow so all will be good and nothing to worry about....sound right?
One last peek before going to bed. 75* and 38%rh....it's getting better. Maybe the bubbling water will help bring up the rh through the night.
Just an aside (okay shameless plug) the nights work included hanging the Mylar, getting the air pump, stones and water set up to "breathe" and then also to play around with the exhaust tubing in the back. Shown just below. All the connections fit nice and snug and it's pretty rigid. Tomorrow I'll install strapping to hold them in place just in case.........DAY 2 Good morning all.
We're all running a bit late so I need to rush out the door. I run into the garage to grab a few "supplies" for the day. I should peek in and look but I gotta go...."hey what's that smell...kinda warm". I look behind the cabinet and all the PVC had leaned over and pulled off the cabinet and had come crashing down over night, including the exhaust fans! OMG! I pull open the doors and 89* and the inside fan is just blowing like a desert wind! Ugh. The 3 clones in rockwool in baggies are a bit droopy (especially Flower) but the Blueberry and PurpExtreme were both bent over at the waist "touching their toes" and all leaves hung wilted like old spinach....#@#%@@#$@#! I grabbed them took them to the sink and started drizzling water on the medium until I got it back to a nice moist, not soaked, state. I got the fans reattached, the temp back down, ladies back inside and left for work and hoped for the best.
I'm so glad I'm on half days right now. I run home at 1:00, look inside and LIFE!!! A couple of toasty leaves but we're back in business!!! Now to deal with the humidity issue. After trying a few different things the best result was laying down damp paper towels and covering them with another container. The bottom left and center clones are the DJ's Blueberry and Purple Extreme alive and well.
With the cover off. Flower (back right) still looks a bit droopy, but wouldn't you if you smelled like skunk?
Up close and personal.
Kandy Kush-looks unscathed with active node sites.
Flower is actually looking pretty good.
Larry OG - Looking good!
Purple Extreme - Imagine her bent over from below the big fan leaf on the left and shriveled up. This has got to be an amazing recovery.
And last but not least - our true survivor DJ's Blueberry. I almost tossed her because her leaves were just little balls laying on the top of the lid. You'll note the 2 crispy leaves on the bottom right. This clone already looks like a cola. She is so bushy and has so many little leaves growing off of her.
Okay that brings us through yesterday pretty much and I fear if I don't submit soon I'll lose the post. Next post I'll talk about the grow plan a bit. And go through my fiddling with the water and my Hanna meter. I hope you are enjoying the drama as much as me.
peace
