UV Suppliment Lighting

Wait, so you already run Solocure UVB/A bulbs?
Yes, I run 5 of 4 foot bulbs(not flowerpower)
And you will be adding what next grow, the HLG UVA to the Solocure, or the Solocure to the HLG UVA?

HLG UVA I added for nextgrow
you can't run all that to start and must harden your seedlings just like going outside with plant.
this myth telling people to use tiny amount of UV is bunk, let yout plant tell you, seedlings love mild UV.
Flower power is stronger bulb, keep that in mind plus I worked up from seed to harvest with flower period being highest use of course .

Glass cover with built in driver and heavy heatsink forms waterproof unit.
I also run 160 watts of Solocure bulbs T-8.
I will be adding this to next grow as the results were that good this grow I wanted to go even higher with UV.
Soild frost throughout each bud.
I ramped UV up slowly from seedling till harvest.
It is an excellent buy.
Glass cover? just wondering if it’s a quartz glass cover that’s UV transparent. Pretty expensive cover. and why bother making it waterproof when their other products aren’t.

First the UVA strip at 99$ now a bar with glass cover 149$. Will there be a next gen. Thinking this UV bar was outsourced. Would that be a good assumption? I think I will still wait and see whats around the corner. I would rather not have to use a UV tube. I kinda liked those unprotected strips. I wish I could test that UVA bar out. Too bad Costco didn't sell ( you don't like just return it.. lol )

I have one of the old, uncovered HLG UVA boards and the plants under it seemed a bit more stinky. Cutter electronics also has some good options. I use their super blue and 405 nm boards for added stink, insect mitigation, and stretch control. I am interested in their UVB 280/310nm two channel board as an arcadian replacement.

@nachooo,
Thanks for all of the great information on UVB lighting. Any thoughts on this light setup for UVB? It shows the light spectrum and hits the 280nm mark. I bought two assuming I was getting a good price at 85 dollars each including the bulb. Will these do the job in a 5x5 tent and HID lighting?

Also, an interesting read on UVB for anyone interested
I use the CLW UV-B. Have used it the entire life cycle and only during flower. The plants love it during veg as long as the duration is not too long. 20191121_203506.jpg20191121_184738.jpg20191027_185151.jpg20191027_184942.jpg20191027_185133.jpgHave found that 30 minutes in the middle of the light cycle is plenty. Have tried longer times but end up burning leaves. 20191121_233952.jpg20191121_233839.jpgTried working up to 5 hours per day in ripening and ended up with crunchy buds. They looked amazing and smelled amazing, but dried in only 5 days and were still "over dry". Will not use for more than 30 minutes any more.

Thanks!! I’m going to rethink my UVB timer schedule and start with 15 minutes.

So are you running it 3 feet above your plants and still limiting your use to 30 minutes?

The uv-b lights are attached to the main lights and all are on movers. Have used them at 30 mins full life cycle at heights varying from 18"-36".
My experience with these particular lights have produced best with 30 min per day from seed to chop. I'm still experimenting but any longer seems to cause leaf damage after a few days or less depending upon duration of uv.

A note to consider is that i have more uv lights than needed in order to spread the light better so that may add to the reduced duration.

Sounds like you have a cool setup SofaKing! Let me ask....the instructions recommend the last 2-3 weeks of flowering but you’re running from seed. I’ll do more research online, but what is the benefit that you see of running uvb during veg mode?

When first attemp at use during veg the leaves perked up and seemed as if the plants grew faster for some reason. The flower cycle duration seemed to be quicker as well. May have been a coincidence due to some other variable but the trichome production started sooner and the trichomes were thicker and taller.
This is my experience for what it is worth.

Thanks very much for sharing your experience with the CLW UVB lights.

And whoever asked, their bulb is "proprietary". That said, sofa king, would you be able to tell us - does the CLW fixture fit standard "two foot" t5 bulbs? I'm wondering if, when the CLW bulb that comes with the fixture dies, would we be forced to buy more of theirs, or would we be able to use - for example - an arcadia or agromax etc?
Are all these "two foot" t5 bulbs actually 22" long?

Edit: Those plants look delicious, beautiful.

Thanks.

Nice info and nice plants, Your plant colors and general experience with your UV lights are similar to mine except I have been using instead uvb leds (285nm) and uva leds (365,385,410..this last one is near UVA..). I used UVB/UVA from seed too, also reach a point were bad symptoms start to appear, and also quicker maturation, and yes..more trich too. As I suspected seeing the specs..those lamps are really potent..only 30 minutes a day...
Congrats for the results

I just use agros pure UV t5 vertically 3ft away 15mins x3 daily, I just prefer the way my plants taste/smell with the added A/B, visually I've never noticed more trichomes just more color in the trichomes which i also prefer.

I honestly cant imagine using a stronger bulb than this, if anything a weaker bulb is easier to work with if you can mount it at the same height as your lights instead of above or at the side.
