I don't know who is feeding so many this nonsense that we have 100 years of oil in the Continental U.S.but it is just that, nonsense. OPEC is hiding from peak oil, it is pretending that peak oil does not exist. We witnessed peak oil in the U.S. in the 70's as you recall we were a gross exporter, one of the largest behind the Saudis. Believe me, if we had 100 years worth of oil we would still be an exporter and our trade with other countries would look far differently than it does.
Now we are an importer. As I said, the Saudis are now pumping salt water which is what they use to force their reserves out of the ground. Windsblow, I have been in the gaseous and liquid alternative energy field in one capacity or another for over 20 years. We are not close.

Total proven reserves in in the U.S. are considerably less than 70 as a portion of that is Canadian.

In truth, the Saudies have been fudging their numbers for years and there are only a few dependable studies. None of which are optomistic to 100 years as Nodrama states. As for the heavely regulated commercial marijuana market and legal homegrown.... I don't think it would work. You can't have a regulated and taxed market but allow people to freely produce their own tax free. One or the other will go.
Do you have friends who brew their own beer? Make their own wine? Still around and yet beer and wine are regulated.

In a perfect world, yes, socialism would be awesome. We don't live in a perfect world. Socialism, in general, puts too much power in the hands of government. You can't have it both ways. The larger the government, the more they need to justify their existence, which means more bullshit laws and expenditures (which we can ill afford). You can't take away the motive to succeed and expect people to still work hard enough to fund all of the entitlements a more sociaisitic government would surely have. The more power government has, the more likely someone with less than noble motives is to step in and take advantage of that power. We've seen it over and over and over and over and over......................why can't you fucking liberals figure this out??????????????

I need no rock Wind, do you really believe all of this? The world is both far more simple and far more complex than you make it out to be. It is you who are believing the simply pasifying line that every government and every oil company wants you to believe. Nothing to worry about here, let us have our way, let us drill and plunder anywhere we want - there are 100s of years of oil, just not anywhere we are allowed to drill. Give us what ever we need and we will always give you oil - relax, you don't need to change your way of doing anything we have it all under control. Oh, and if by chance we are wrong, don't worry, "our boys in the lab" will whip up a fix at the very last minute, just like in the movies.

Well it depends on what your definition of "conspiracy" is.
There are several reason in my opinion but Government is the biggest problem. How can any expect a continued investment in an industry that is required a 10 year wait just to clear a lease and license from the FeDs and then the Feds reserve the right to pull that permit at anytime. In Wyoming The Federal Government pays oil companies to cap producing NG wells. There is a huge potential oil/gas boom in Wyoming/Colorado that the Feds are regulating to a complete halt.
The point is not whether or not we are running out. The point is "Who really gives a shit"! We have no other option (and no alternative energy isn't being stpped by politicians.... that hogwash) and until the market place demands we move on to another technology we are doing nothing but making thing worse by thinking we can legislate a new technological reality. Let the market push the price up (Not OPEC) and when it get to high because of natural market pressure then technologies will respond accordingly. I trust the laws of the Universe and economics much more than I do a monolithic centralized government.
Next subject please..... Isn't this thread about Class Warfare anyway?

I have never siad the world was simple actually, quite the opposite. Were do you get this?
I do believe the world is too complicated for Governments to safely micromanage though.
Oh and one more thing, I don't know one country, at least in the developed western world, that doesn't emphatically insist were are running out of oil.
How am I towing the Government line by suggesting oil reserves might be better than Government agencies claim. I don't follow your logic.
