SoG Grow Room Discussion

Hey SOG, would you mind if I take an extra stab at a couple of these questions?
I've come across a lot of this when I was researching A/Cs...
1) it seems most people are opting for the portable a/c's rather than window units, do the window units leak Co2?
SOG is right about the fact that they are movable and can be used when a window is not available. Another benefit is that they are not as prone to light leaks as a window A/C.
I'd also like to note that the appropriate portable A/C for a CO2 enriched CGE(sealed room) is a dual hose, and even then will need some modification. This is because normal portable A/Cs will exchange air from inside to out.
2) how does a heat pump work differently than a normal a/c?
A heat pump is actually the same concept of an A/C, but in reverse. It will draw any heat from outside and distribute it inside. As a matter of fact, lot of A/Cs incorporate a reversing valve that makes them operate as a heat pump.

3) what's a swamp cooler?
Swamp coolers are evaporitive coolers. They blow air across a surface of water and the air gives off some of it's heat to the water. The water temp goes up a little, and the air temp goes down a little(you should expect a couple degrees at best). They are not a substitute for an A/C and will increase humidity.

4)scrubbing the air is important.
Some filters are made to run in a closed circuit. This collects the impurities in the same way as running a little HEPA filter in the corner of a room does. Other methods of odor reduction in a CGE include UV and Ionization.

Hope this may help you or somebody else.

SOG...thank you so much for your plans. I know how much work you have put into your project so far and it is very generous of you to share it with all of us. I consider myself fairly intelligent, but am a "tool" when it comes to designing with tools. So I am living vicarously through you at the moment as you build the type of set up that I look forward to building in the months ahead.

Thanks SOG and Aeroking for clearing a lot of that up for me.

Right now I'm leaning towards a split a/c system like this one...
http://www.homeclick.com/web/catalog/product_detail.aspx?pid=279047&chnl=cse&ven=nextag&cat=Housewares%3aAir%20Purifiers&brnd=Alen%20Corporation&itm=279047AMS12|AMS12%20Mini-Split%20Air%20Conditioner%20-%20AMS12.

They're a bit more expensive, and the installation would be more involved but I think I'll be happy with it in the long run do to its efficiency and isolation of the op.

> this is the reason i went with the "smart" environmental controllers
you will
still need to recycle and cool it down, in different cycles though
This is the part I'm curious about, how does one "dial in" a system to maximize growth and at the same time be somewhat efficient.

whats the deal with that AAW?

Thank You..!:-P

Now... the deal with the AAW..?

I tried looking up what AAW stands for...

"AcronymDefinition

AAW Ad-Aware (software)
AAW American Association of Woodturners
AAW Anti-Air Warfare
AAW Active Aeroelastic Wing
AAW As A WriterAAWAir to Air Weapons
AAW Antiaircraft Warfare
AAW Army Acquisition Workforce
AAW Advertising Association of the West
AAW Air Acetylene Welding
AAW Aeromedical Airlift Wing
AAW Average Accumulators of Wealth
AAW Airfield Attack Weapon
AAW Advanced Attack Weapon
AAW Anti-aircraft Automatic Weapon
AAW Air-to-Aiir Warfare
AAW American Atheist Women
AAW AEGIS Antiair Warfare
AAW Advanced Analysts' Workstation"

But none of those seemed to make sense...

Soooo, I imagine you are talking about my electricity issues...

Yeah... sore subject...

The box is not here yet...

When it does get here, I will need an extra $400 for the 75ft lenght of 6-4 wire...

Now... yesterday... I blew out an HPS bulb ($190 locally), melted one of the extension cords and damn near torched the house...

So I went out, with not enough money to get the 6-4 wire, and bought another $200 worth of 12 gage extension cords, which will only be used until the 220v setupis done...

So.. yeah.. big waste of money and time... but at least I still have a house...

I am about ready for this shit to be over... I worry 24/7, and have gotten to the point where I don't want to leave the house... afraid of some bad juju happening while I am gone...

C'mon parts.... I need to get this done.... lol....

Thanks for all your help and support SOG...

Between my leg, my mind (the meds) and the difficulty of getting everything done without enough money... I am surprised to be where I am...

I guess blood, sweat, tears & a whole lot of pain actually pay off, eh?!?!:-P

Cheers...

Hope everyone has a GREAT DAY !!!!
