II hear that Jordan. I know good weed has finally made its way around the globe, but some folks just don't listen when I preach about NW dank. Welcome.

Keeping my eye out for males everyday. Hey Kev, given your experience, do I really have much to worry about in regard to cross pollination if I yank the males the first second I spot 'em. I kinda' figure the first sign of pollen sacks doesn't mean they're full of pollen yet - but I dunno'. Thoughts?

na pollen sacks take a couple days to mature I usually always spot them before they shed the only time I don't is if I don't check for 3-4 days

Thanks for the input Jordan! I'll be diligent - anything I should know about disposal? Do I need to be super delicate? Bag the plant first, then chop...? Maybe I'm just too nervous about losing the femmed ones.

you sex them quick by removing the males, forget so much about looking for females
you should be able to see preflowers now anyway at this stage in veg,
you should have them sexed by 3 days of 12/12 or in preflower at 4-6 weeks veg
get in very close and look at all the knuckles for the male preflower
spot the cock and kill the fucker lol

Wow, that's some crazy good spotting; now I'm hesitant to say my plants aren't showing pre flower - perhaps I need to put my eyeballs closer to the truth of the matter. When I get home, I'll take a closer look; maybe post a pic or two for a more advanced eye! Peace.

look very close m8, i spot the preflowers and leave it 1 or 2 days to make sure, "this making sure" is really me just coming to terms with the fact some of my best looking plants in veg being males , i know its male after seeing the preflowers, but i cant bring myself to part with it, just yet

then i do the dirty deed and kill the fuckers, those lovely plants killed because of 1 tiny preflower i can just about see with the naked eye,

i can say over the years it has never been wrong, even though i have wanted it to be wrong so many times

i take cuttings from the renaming female* (non preflowering male) plants it is possible that the non male remaining plants may show male signs later and be hemies but that is very rare, if that was the case i would just remove those cuttings

i do it this way so i can sex them early and then take clones from all the females before they have flowered
that way i don't lose the plant if it turns out to be a keeper, its quicker than rejuvenating a flowered female to get cuttings after harvest

preflowers come in veg from week 4 onwards on most plants i have grown some do not show them at all some show later, so i leave it to the first 3 days of 12/12 to sex them

keep looking for the male preflowers, you will see them before the pistals, they are easier to spot, you have to get your eye lol within an inch of the plants so close to see the male preflower forming, it will have a stalk, that is the giveaway sign
no female growth calyx growth has a stalk, you can see a little bobble on a stalk you know its male

you can spot premature cylax but they are harder to spot with the naked eye they are tiny, and have no pistils or just 1 pistil, the other pistal not emerged yet
if you have a scope it would make it easer i guess, but i have always done it without a scope
good luck m8 :)

Those scopes are pretty hard to get in there and take a peek, was trying it the other day. I have plants at week 6 and they are starting to preflower but its hard to tell if its male or not, I see little nubs but no pistils and no stalks so Ill just keep waiting for now.
Have you tried cloning yet fykshun? I have had about 25% success rate so far lol but I know what Im doing wrong I think(cooked them)

if you don't see any growth coming out from a stalk, i would leave it for sure, the male preflower is very visible when you know what to look for, the stalk can clearly be seen as it is about as long or even longer than the head of the male preflower itself
they come out of the knuckles where the branches meet at the main stem or the main steam itself

after doing it like this for a while you learn that no sign of preflowering is good news
as spotting female preflowers is alot harder and they tend to come later anyway, so you are only realy looking for males, forget females
no news is good news here

so you are selecting females, by eliminating males, not by spotting females
the rest that are not male, must be female* some may go on to show signs of being hemi, but thats very rare

spotting the male preflower is pretty easy in my experiences and consistent among all the strains i have grown ,although long maturing sativas tend to be put in flower before they would show preflowers anyway

peace :)

I believe I may have spotted one male this morning, but I need to really inspect it tonight (working for a living hurts). I'm kinda' pissed, I bought a celestron handheld USB microscope that claimed full compatibility with my Mac, but I get the fucker home, and it's nothing but shit problems. I have an email out to the company's support staff, but it might be balls. I'll give an update later; it'd be nice if I could give you a few micro shots...we'll see.

Kinda' worked out, as the male was actually my runt (started one week after others due to a 3 out of four germination success on the first go round). Pictures below aren't great, but this is the plant I killed today, based on the fact that these look like balls while my other three are spitting out white hairs. I'll post some better updates once there are some buds for your folks to look at.

By the way, this is day 7 of flower (Day 48 in total, from seed, so roughly 30 days in actual vegetation).

Hey Fykshun!!

Sorry I didn't drop in sooner, Kevin's thread seems to use up all my time.. You garden looks great, nice and healthy :-)

Thanks for swinging through, MomaPug; hehe...I think of the doggies as more of a favorite bar than a grow journal - but there are far more experienced growers than I out there, and I like to gain those contacts when I'm looking for advice ;-) - peace Moma!

Okay gang,

I need a more advanced grower to tell me I'm wrong (I really hope I am, but it doesn't take a genius to look up a few pictures on-line). I believe this plant to be guilty of double-sexing - yah, mon - a hermy. Please tell me it ain't so, trusty passersby.

All pictures are from the same plant. One picture shows an apex seeming to display all male characteristics, one pictures appears all female, and another seems to show both sexes at one apex. Chime in - peace.

Looks like an actual hermaphrodite.
Bananas are really Intersex..

Shame to hear.
Sounds like you got 2 phenos to focus on.

You kept backup clones right?

I planted 6 seeds, had 5 germ, one sprout and die before opening cotlys,
and one split into twins, which both died.
