Practice run. Wish me luck!

Ok, time for an update. Well, the girls have outgrown their growbox. <sigh> I really should have heeded everyone's warning about them doubling or tripling in size. So now I have the two girls in a closet again under lights. The good news is, despite the abuse they have endured, they are beginning to flower. There are buds forming all over. This after 2 weeks in 12/12. I last gave them Superthrive and Molasses a week ago. You might notice in the pics that the taller one has some crispy burnt leaves. This is from touching some of the CFLs due to limited height space in the growbox. Removing it from the box should remedy that. This weekend I plan on buying the Foxfarm ferts that have been so widely touted.

Anyway, on to the pics. My camera only has 3x zoom, so I cannot capture some of the detail that others on here can but here are some updated pics.

BTW, I am planning on getting a microscope this weekend to start monitoring

Update time. On Saturday I watered the girls with a nice cocktail of FF Big Bloom, Tiger Bloom, Grow Big, Superthrive and Molasses. I have 2 remaining female plants, remember. One appears to be clearly more sativa dominant, as it is taller with more finger-like leaves. The other is shorter and more christmas-tree like. You can clearly see the difference in pic #1 in the previous post. Anyway, the sativa plant was ahead of the indica plant in terms of bud formation until I watered. I am truly astounded by the difference one watering and 1 day makes! Yesterday I could literally see the indica plant starting to bud all over. This morning, when I took the girls out, both plants were blooming all over! I didn't have time this morning to take any pics. I will try and take some pics during lunch and post this afternoon.

Yesterday that storm that hit the midwest and pounded the northeast, rolled through here and the weather was pretty lousy, so I kept the girls indoors under the lights. I had them in a closet. I bought a white display board from Michael's ($3.99) that I use to partition them off in the closet and to reflect light back onto the plants. I have added mylar yet but it's a flat white and does a decent job reflecting. It's also portable and easily to configure into the shape you want. I also purchased the $9.99 microscope from Radioshack.

That's about right, Midg. They're just over 2 months old. I planted them on Feb 11th. I have to tell you, they were very slow growing the first 2 weeks. During that time, I didn't know what the hell I was doing. I didn't even know about 18/6 or anything. The first 2 times I watered them, I used regular chlorinated water! Anyway, they've come a long way, as have I. I'm getting ready to purchase some quality seeds here in the next couple of weeks. My next grow will be very different. I plan on finishing this one up first to free up the lights and space.

Same place you got yours. They are bag seeds. We've gotten some pretty good mids ("regs", in these parts) over the last 12 months. We usually aren't fans of seeded weed but we were pretty impressed with the quality, so we saved some seeds. Actually, we usually save a few seeds anytime we buy regs. I probably have about 50 seeds from the regs we've bought over the last 2 years or so. This was more of a practice run to get the hang of it. I'll tell you, though, the smaller (indica heavy strain?) plant has a killer smell. When it's in the closet, the entire room reeks of it. The taller plant (sativa?) has little or no smell. I'm eager to see how the 2 smoke.

Im new and going for my first attemp in the next few days, your post has been a great help and enjoyable read. Great images also.

How much longer do you expect it to be before you can harvest your crop?

Thanks for the positive feedback, Ib and I'm glad this has helped someone. It's been a tumultous time growing these. I almost destroyed the entire crop earlier when our stepson discovered it. Then they were left in a very very hot box outside for 5 days with no water. Sometimes we need to remember these are weeds and are very hardy.

Anyway, from what I am seeing, I think I have roughly another 2-3 weeks of flowering before I can harvest. I will be examining the trichomes soon to see if there is any color change.

You really have done an EXCELLENT job for a first grow. How much does it look like you'll yeild at this point?

Gan, thanks for the feedback. I think it's still too early to predict yield. Over the weekend, only the taller plant had buds and I was counting them, already thinking of how much I would harvest. On Saturday, I counted 5 buds on the taller tree and there weren't any well-formed on the smaller plant. This morning when I took them out, on the taller plant I counted well over 10 buds. So it's doubled since Saturday. The smaller plant now has about 8 buds forming as well. My point is, I don't think the plants are done blooming yet, so it's hard to predict yield at this point.

FYI, I watered the 2 girls again this morning with a cocktail of FF BG, TB and GB. My current routine is to take the girls outside each morning around 7:15am. I leave them outdoors if it's a clear sunny day. We rotate the plants a couple times during the day to ensure all parts of the plants get equal light. If I can, I leave them out until 7:15pm and then they go into the dark in a closet in a darkened room. Sometimes, because of the kids, we have to take them inside earlier, in which case I will finish the 12 hours of light under the CFLs in the closet. So far, so good.
