Newbie needs advice

Hello everyone.

I am basically a newbe, light user, who wants to grow three or four plants for personal use. I actually grew three plants couple of years ago and everything went well but it feels like ages ago.

Anyways, I decided to just plant the seeds in separate containers, I am using regular soil for flowers with a mix of perlite. I decided not to germinate prior to planting although couple of years ago I did soak them in water for 24hours.

So, my questions are, how much water is too much or too little? I am thinking the soil should be moist but not too wet. Not sure if I should cover the pots for a day or two so that they are in complete dark? Also, how long (aproximately) until I see the plant comming out? I will not use all the seeds in case this does not work out.

I am planning to grow them in a greenhouse that is basically a room in our house where we keep our other plants during winter. It us almost entirelly made out of glass.

Sorry for the "stupid" questions, looking forward to a friendly advice. :bigjoint:

Ok id mist not water seedlings do it with a spray bottle that way its harder for you to go over board you want the medium wet not soaked also since your germinating in soil you dont need to cover the pot for light the soil does that you could however use some clingfilm with holes in it to cover it to trap in moisture some do i dont personally

Thank you @conor c

LOL, I planted the seeds and they all popped up when I watered the soil. ‍♀ I pushed them back. I am planning to "water" with spray bottle to avoid them popping up again.

I also thpught to put glass over the containers but to let a bit of air. Do not want to create mould but I like the idea with clingfilm.

Fingers crossed.

Yeah, when I watered the soil, the seeds appeared on the surface of the soil. :D

I ended up planting 7 seeds in the end so we will see. They are all feminized autoflowers, three different types.

Next run do photos there easier for beginners autoflowerers are contrary to what some think harder to grow in the aspect you cant make many mistakes or it will cost you with photoperiod plants you can get away with more mistakes plus there more potent too id always advise new growers to grow photos unless it was literally impossible to do so like say outdoors or whatever i think they got there time and place just there not "starter plants" in my book

If you havent practiced growing a healthy plant start to finish, auto is just shooting yourself in the foot.

Exactly that if you cant grow picture perfect everytime dont even try you can learn with autos only but it be easier and more productive for most people/situations if you only did photo plants till u got it down

3 years ago I grew one photoplant and two autos. Now, let me be clear, I am not looking to grow a perfect plant nor execting a great yeald... I am just a stay at home mom and housewife that wants to take a break in the evening when my kid goes to sleep.

The first time I grew, my plants were rather sad. The photoplant was bigger and had bigger yeald the autos also finished and I had a "stash" for almost 8 months. The "product" was actually very good, though photoplant gave me better high. I was proud of myself. :D Weed is illegal where I live so you usually get crap when you buy it on the "street". My stuff was way better.

The thing is, I grew them like ordinary houseplants. Without any fancy soil, nutritients, lights, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, etc... They were in my greenhouse, I gave them attificial light at night and watered them regularly. And that is it. Sure, I was "stressed" during the process but I told myself I should not complicate.

In my house and backyard I have almost 300 plants. :D I absolutely adore gardening and have experience with various flowers, houseplants, vegetables, fruits... However, I do tend to stress over weed.

So, the current plan is the same, just trying to grow them in a simple, home friendly manner. So, it will be far from perfect but it is kind of an adventure and I enjoy it.

And I really appreciate all the advice I get here, you guys are awesome. The first time I grew them, I got a lot of help from this forum.

And honestly, when you are older (I'm in my 30s :D ) you feel stupid just running around the town for weed like a teen. My friends and family members do not smoke or they smoke once in a blue moon, so I do not have anyone close who can get access to some quality stuff, thus growing is the best option for me.

BTW, I'm in the EU, but in my country only CBD is legal. However, you can buy THC seeds as "souvenirs" and "exotic food for birds". The police does not sweat around smokers and people who grow for personal use. They are only after people who grow in order to turn profit. I guess the government and "mafia" do not like competition. The stuff you get on the street can be good but often is crap, it really depents on the batch you get, there is no "consistency" in the quality.

Same I grow all kinds of plants outside and some bud but inside has been a whole different animal. I just built my closet out and need to get my environment down. This time is usually safe with night time temps and humidity but weather been all over. So two seedlings didn't make it from humidity being at low 30s. And night temps getting cold still.

In The uk we can buy seeds with the same kinda loopholes as you guys but its illegal as is growing it tho however everyone i know smokes it or vapes it including my parents so i think its pretty widespread regardless of the law but they will bust home growers here where im at but some parts of the uk less so it just depends really over here

For me the biggest issue is humidity. That is why this year I am growing autos. Namely, when I grew photoplant it naturally took more time for it to be ready for harvest. It was in the autumn and at that time humidity rises in my greenhouse so I noticed mould on one bud. That is when I had to harvest though I had no idea if it was ready. The good thing is that more than half of the buds were fine. I checked them throughly with magnifying glass. And after drying, curing and finally smoking them I realised the plant was ready for harvest. So, I was lucky. :D This year I cannot bother with the autum humidity, though I have a dehumidifier in my bathroom which I could just move to the greenhouse.

When I started growing houseplants some 15 years ago I would kill each and every one of them... Later, as I learned more, I realised that they were dying because I was worrying too much about soil, watering, nutritients, etc... Like, once I "left them alone" and gave them just regular care they started thriving. Sometimes less is really more. :D

It is similar here. Weed is illegal but the whole city reeks of weed. :bigjoint: Literally, I see people smoking in front of my local supermarket or in parks.

However, I choose not to invest in all the equpment like tents, lights, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, and generally equipment for growing indoors because I do not wish to rise a suspicion that I am growing for profit when in reallity I just need 3 or 4 plants for myself.

I am not saying anyone would bother checking what I buy online but I wouldn't like to be in a situation that police comes to my home for some other thing and sees pro setting for marijuana growing.
