Lol, It's all good. Different strokes. Half-Baked definitely was not particularly strong but at the time it was pretty ground breaking being pro-pot and somewhat wide release. Imho obviously.

To be fair I'm not a huge fan of most stoner movies, pineapple express being one of the exceptions..
 
You know what's really over-rated? This no bra day. I'm sittimg at the mall and not many women appear to be supporting the cause. I just see alot of bras supporting their breasts.

Just to take it beyond the point of no return, could people stop with the fucking cancer awareness bands and shirts and blah blah blah. Do they genuinely think that we have never heard of cancer and having a pink thing on their shirt suddenly makes us aware if it?

Lol.. I tend to agree tip, but dating her has enlightened me a bit more..
I can't even imagine losing a kid the day after his third bday.. I didn't know her at the time though.. but still pretty shite imo..
But I definitely agree about american football teams wearing pink shoes and what not..

I really doubt they think people are unaware of the existence of cancer. I think it's more to support cancer research by buying this type of stuff, and also to remind people that it is a huge problem that needs to be addressed. It brings it to people's minds who might otherwise go through their lives without consciously thinking about how prevalent cancer is.

Its not really supporting anything. The money spent on buying the things is used to make more of the things.

And I don't think anyone of the appropriate age has forgotten that it is a big problem that needs addressing. Like saying that without national aids day we have forgotten that its a serious illness and such. Sorry, but it pisses me off. It achieves little to nothing. Maybe if only the people suffering from cancer wore the things, that would raise more awareness, by highlighting how many of us have it when we would never previously have known. I worked with a waitress, about 19 years old, had breast cancer. Her wearung something to show this would be a hell of a bigger awareness thing, given her age and that you would typically not consider that someone that age might have cancer, not every other random person on the street just wearing something pink to remind you that cancer exists. Its shoved down our throat in near every other health orientated news story, be it sunbathing or eating hamburgers, we are very aware that cancer is a problem, we should not be wasting millions reminding ourselves needlessly. Cancer bands and t shirts and such cost money, why not give all of that money to research, instead of a company making s profit on the manufacturing of the goods.

Do you have a source for the claim that companies who say they help research breast cancer are actually not donating any money? If true, that is fucked up and I would truly like to learn about it. Susan G Komen, who's responsible for all that pink crap, supports hundreds of cancer research organizations. That really pisses you off? I'm not trying to fight or come off as abrasive, I just don't get it. If it gets people to care about cancer and donate to research, what's wrong with it?
 
There is a HUGE difference between donating money to cancer research, and buying something pink. Money for research is for research. Pink items had to be produced, that costs money, and invariably involves a profit for the producer. Why not just give all of that money to research, not just a fraction with the rest going to production costs.that is my issue. Rubber wrist bands don't produce themselves. Give your money for research, not a wristband. This is not about raising awareness about something largely unknown, like the treatment of cocoa pickers, this is about something most of the world is very very aware of.

For arguments sake, let's just assume that global warming is a 100% factual issue without debate or controvesy. Would you pay money for an awareness item, or alternatively stop driving 100m to the shop?

Of course there are costs, but it's about the net result. At the end of the day there is money being donated to cancer research that would not have been donated otherwise. Selling a trendy, cheaply made bracelet that lets people display their support , and then donating the majority of profits, is more effective than saying "donate money." It may be a testament to how vain people are, in that they need to show everyone their support instead of just doing it, but it works. They are giving a LOT of money to research centers.

Komen is out of a bunch of stuff after they discovered the widespread fraud in the organization. The NFL's in on the act, too. For every $100 of NFL pink gear sold, $3.54 goes to research.

I do not know statistics, but I personally just prefer giving all money to research, not some. The promotional model is clearly flawed. They need to find a means of promoting awareness without it being in a passive manner. It also shows to me that people as a whole don't care quite that much. To me, if they are willing to pay money for a wristband or t shirt, surely they are doing it for a reason so why not give them a viable method of giving all of that money to research, not just a little bit.

Could you give me a source on this? If this is true I wouldnt hesitate to retract my support and cast them down as a piece of shit swindling organization. But it had not been brought to my attention before.I really would like more info if you dont mind.

After that I will stop derailing this thread. Sorry folks
