They are golden for the new grower. Simple easy basic grow stuff with no worries of light leaks or darkness schedules.
Disagree with this. It's far easier for a new grower to figure out how to switch lighting from 18/6 to 12/12 and plug any light leaks than it is to make sure their feeding and growing techniques are on point from day one so that the plant isn't stunted or riddled with deficiencies when flower auto triggers.

That said, OP has said he has 25 years general gardening experience, so he should be able to address any issues quickly and incorporate techniques to maximize yield.

I guess we will have agree to disagree on some things. I'm talking simplicity here. Sure dudes got a lot of garden experience and that is a huge plus. Autos are a very easy grow and excellent for anyone new to cannabis. Less possibly of error which can give the first time cannabis grower a good experience and then move on to bigger and better things.
That said...I am totally confident op will grasp every aspect of cannabis growing. With tons of experience in growing food it should be pretty easy for him to accomplish anything he desires.

I'm talking simplicity, too. If a beginner doesn't have their nutes, watering frequencies, and environment dialed, the plant is going to be shit and then it's going to go into flower. A photo a beginner can beat up for a couple of months and then when he or she finally has the kinks worked out and the plant is healthy, they can flip it to flower and get a good harvest.

All good points, though first growers are also eager for their first harvests. Autos get you to the finish faster.

Right, but if they have no growing experience of any kind, then they're very likely getting to the finish line faster with a shit plant. All I'm saying is a first time grower, in general, should have a successful grow before attempting an auto.

You could also start a photo in 12/12 and get to the finish line even faster than an auto, but that doesn't make it a good idea but people do it all the time.

I figure it like this, If I can nail down Autos first, then photos with huge yields should be a breeze.

I'm talking about people that haven't grown anything. If you have 25 of years general gardening experience with herbs and vegetables and you can't get an auto to a healthy harvest on your first go, then you should probably just stick with going to the dispensary and smoking those mid autos :D

I haven't grown vegetables yet. But during the summer I grow flowers and catnip. The catnip I top regular to get it to bush out.

I'm treating my auto like I take care of my flowers and she's growing fast.

What kind of soil is that. It looks like the insulation they used to use years ago.
GOOD EYE, It actually IS the same stuff they used to use in Insulation, its Vermuclite. Its actually considered a "Soilless Hydro Grow" its a combo of Coco Coir, Peat Moss, Vermuclite, with some Dolomitic Lime and Gypsum. Coco Coir was triple Buffered with a triple Strength Diy Cal Mag solution.

The auto is healthy and young. In a good medium under good light.
We encourage people here in these grow forums. They come here for support and help. We don't tell them to just quit and hit the dispensary if they fail.

We help them be successful.

Yeah, your entitled to your opinion but being that critical on a new grower is not cool at all.

It was a joke, hence the smiley emoji. If he had zero growing experience, I wouldn't have made the joke. Lighten up a little - I'm nearly 100% certain he got the joke, which was a comedic way of saying, "You have 25 years growing experience - no way you won't be successful here."

I have a friend who grows Autos. Never seen a finished plant pic or been hooked up with a little nug from him

I've never understood the appeal of autos. And if sexing a plant is too much for a new grower, buy fems.
Here is my last grow (four new ones going now). Four autos all getting close to harvest. 90 days of growing for 3/4 pound of excellent, flavorful weed in several varieties. Just providing reasons for growing autos. I would bet significant money that you could not differentiate types between good photos and good autos, and in many cases you would prefer the autos. This is a repeated, tested truth. Autos are a fun and highly legitimate type of marijuana. Consider this: people who relentlessly rip on autos truly don’t know what they’re talking about.

Good luck to the op.

Nah, I dont see it. Glad it works for you though. I'm not about to throw more money at the power company for a slighter quicker harvest time with genetics that have not been proven to be that potent. Give me regs anyday.

This is the part where you’re factually incorrect. It’s really simple. I grow both. Do you? Have you ever grown autos? Beyond your friend who either is a bad grower or doesn’t want to share, what’s your information source? Science has long proved assumptions like yours false.

I guess I just don’t understand the vitriol and misinfo about autos. Just about everything anyone grows these days is genetically manipulated. If you don’t like autos, why chime in on a thread about autos? Just don’t get that….

Ps: less light for longer or more light for shorter? That argument is probably about a break even.
