New Global warming puzzle: Is it the sun?

Also pollution causes a layer of smog to form over all major Cities. This smog is thick, so when the sun shines ground level gets hotter than anywhere else and stays hotter for longer. Cities are natural spawners of heat, All the concrete and asphalt, all the airconditioners. all the automobiles, there is an opposite view of pollution, and as you mentioned, it's a theory, that the pollution doesn't allow the heat to get through, and actually is a cooling factor!

Skunky Stress is also a main reason for cancer around the world. First world countries have a whole lot more stress than do third world countries. also other factors would be diet, water cleanliness ect.

Like I said, my politics can be defined as left leaning centrist, there are a few things on the left side of the equation that I don't agree with.

Now back to the topic at hand.

I happen to be a Conservationist, which is that I do not like clear cutting of forest, I think that controlled cutting and replanting is more in order. I believe that we need to conserve more water. I think that littering is deplorable and there needs to be stiffer penalties for those who do it. (that would include illegal dumping of any kind of waste.) In other words use common sense when it comes to living in the environment we have.
I do not subscribe to the Environmentalist Agenda as it sets limits on what we can do with lands that we buy (I’ll be damned if some asshole is going to tell me I can’t cut a tree down on my property) I do not think it’s the government’s place to tell me what I can drive, put in my body or what I can do with my property.

What if it is not an asshole that tells you not to cut down the only living BLAH BLAH BLAH tree in the world that is home to the only living blah blah blah...

:)

and...

I agree about the car thing. I also think it is shows lack of awarenss to be driving a HUMMER 3 blocks with one FAT lady on board... or fat man...

LOL

I saw 4 people today driving hummers with only 1 person ON BOARD...

Ilovethem... but i have this itch to put 10 inches of KAK in there FAT ass...

And anybody that leaves this planet worse than when they arrived is a FREE LOADING NO GOOD DONKEY... LOL (just trying that phrase out.. it just came to me...)

well, thats about 99.99999 % of the people...

iloveyou

I do realize that not everyone is aware.. (like the entire middle of the USA) of anything except their own obecity and the fact Oprah has canged her daytime schedule.. and that is fine.. I don't hate those people.. It's cool... but PLEASE stay the fuck out of the way as we try to preserve some shite for the future generations of PLANET earth...

AND don't think the earth does not know what is going on... It KNOWS..

Oh yeah.. and people who are pilaging the planet.. that's fine to.. BUT please don't defend your barbarack ways so that you can sleep at night.. just be cool.. and honest with YOURSELF... and admit that you are a self rightous parasite who is so freaking scared of HIS/HER own shadow

and

Your life is a manifestation of this terror.... AND AS you come closer to your own death the fear grows as you are unable to be honest and forgive yourself or those around you for your pathetic and desctructive existence.. and that because of this lack of HONESTY.. which interferes with AWARENESS of eternity (which is all you need to be HAPPY)..... you will be cast into the great pool of light and vanish like a cube of salt in the ocean....

Well as long as we use common sense, we could be a whole lot better off. There are a lot of people in the world that don't. But Like I said before, no one tells me what I can do with my property.

I never drive anywhere just for the shear joy of driving, in fact I don't go anywhere unless I absolutely have to, and then I have a full car... BTW I drive a Saturn.

But even the non believers do see changes in the environment that they fear as well, so who are you to say that what another person sees and believes is wrong? Supporting evidence is clear on the ozone layer cars release CFC's and yet there is no ban on them like aerosol! Know fact as a contributing to the depletion of the ozone. Why do astronauts wear suites, it's not just for oxygen. Radiation deadly radiation like a microwave and our planet is no longer protected! Being said I believe in the theory that HUMANS are a major contributing factor, but not the sole factor. Why is it taking so long for some people to understand that a billion cars world wide blowing a constant 2 inch plume of deadly fumes will not change the planet and has no effects on it when it takes nature millions of years to make the planet change as fast as humans have over the last one hundred years!

Global Warming, (as caused by Man), is simply, and only, a construct and belief system devised by some men in order to assuage the collective guilt induced by this very same theory of warming caused by man. They are passing the global hat to raise money to stave off this proven dire threat to our very existence!
It is a farce....they want lots of loot to make this bogeyman go away!
Holy Cow!

Senators to Exxon: Shut up, and pay up.

Monday, December 4, 2006 12:01 a.m. EST

Washington has no shortage of bullies, but even we can't quite believe an October 27 letter that Senators Jay Rockefeller and Olympia Snowe sent to ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson. Its message: Start toeing the Senators' line on climate change, or else.
We reprint the full text of the letter here, so readers can see for themselves. But its essential point is that the two Senators believe global warming is a fact, and therefore all debate about the issue must stop and ExxonMobil should "end its dangerous support of the [global warming] 'deniers.' " Not only that, the company "should repudiate its climate change denial campaign and make public its funding history." And in extra penance for being "one of the world's largest carbon emitters," Exxon should spend that money on "global remediation efforts."
The Senators aren't dumb enough to risk an ethics inquiry by threatening specific consequences if Mr. Tillerson declines this offer he can't refuse. But in case the CEO doesn't understand his company's jeopardy, they add that "ExxonMobil and its partners in denial have manufactured controversy, sown doubt, and impeded progress with strategies all-too reminiscent of those used by the tobacco industry for so many years." (Our emphasis.) The Senators also graciously copied the Exxon board on their missive.
This is amazing stuff. On the one hand, the Senators say that everyone agrees on the facts and consequences of climate change. But at the same time they are so afraid of debate that they want Exxon to stop financing a doughty band of dissenters who can barely get their name in the paper. We respect the folks at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, but we didn't know until reading the Rockefeller-Snowe letter that they ran U.S. climate policy and led the mainstream media around by the nose, too. Congratulations.

Let's compare the balance of forces: on one side, CEI; on the other, the Pew Charitable Trusts, the Sierra Club, Environmental Defense, the U.N. and EU, Hollywood, Al Gore, and every politically correct journalist in the country. We'll grant that's a fair intellectual fight. But if the Senators are so afraid that a handful of policy wonks at a single small think-tank are in danger of winning this debate, they must not have much confidence in the merits of their own case. The letter is so over-the-top that we also wonder if Mr. Rockefeller in particular has even read it. (He and Ms. Snowe didn't return our call.) The Senator hails from coal-producing West Virginia, where people know something about carbon emissions. Come to think of it, Mr. Rockefeller owes his own vast wealth to something other than non-carbon energy. But perhaps it's easier to be carbon free when your fortune comes from a trust fund.
The letter is of a piece with what has become a campaign of intimidation against any global warming dissent. Not only is everyone supposed to concede that the planet has been warming--as it has--but we are all supposed to salute and agree that human beings are the definitive cause, that the magnitude of the warming will be disastrous and its effects catastrophic, that such problems as AIDS and poverty are less urgent, and that economic planners must therefore impose vast new regulatory burdens on everyone around the world. Exxon is being targeted in this letter and other ways because it is one of the few companies that still thinks some debate on these questions is valuable.

Every dogma has its day, and we've lived long enough to see more than one "consensus" blown apart within a few years of "everyone knowing" it was true. In recent decades environmentalists have been wrong about almost every other apocalyptic claim they've made: global famine, overpopulation, natural resource exhaustion, the evils of pesticides, global cooling, and so on. Perhaps it's useful to have a few folks outside the "consensus" asking questions before we commit several trillion dollars to any problem. Imagine if this letter had been sent by someone in the Bush Administration trying to enforce the opposite conclusion? The left would be howling about "censorship." That's exactly what did happen earlier this year after James Hansen, the NASA scientist and global warming evangelist, complained that a lowly 24-year-old press aide had tried to limit his media access. The entire episode was preposterous because Mr. Hansen is one of the most publicized scientists in the world, but the press aide was nonetheless sacked.
The Senators' letter is far more serious because they have enormous power to punish Exxon if it doesn't kowtow to them. A windfall profits tax is in the air, and we've seen what happens to other companies that dare to resist Congressional intimidation. It's to Exxon's credit that, in its response to the Senators, the company said that it will continue to fund free market research groups because "there is value in the debate" that helps promote "optimal public policy decisions." Too bad that's not what the Senators care about.

bigballin007, please refrain from the shrill nonsensicle emotional post and put something up with some logic to it... One thing I have always hated is someone pissing in my threads.

I agree Dank', about the replacing of the forests. I've always loved all life, but since growing my respect for plants has gone up a thousandfold. Plants provide us with oxygen, you've gotta respect that.

I wish i could be as easy going as Knowm, in regards to fat, ignorant people. Some people I just can not stand.

I think you need to go drink some beer and chill out, Maybe kick your dog and take a break. Global warming is real, get used to it. Ask the Inuits of northern Canada, they'll tell you it's real, they have no agenda other than staying alive on their own turf!

We don't really know how old the sun is... do we know whether the sun is still exploding or imploding, so to speak? If it is still exploding then this would cause the effects we are witnessing. I hate to go all Alpha Centauri but maybe we should invest our billions in some sort of solar shade, the shade need only be big enough to keep track with the Earth. It could aso have varying degrees of shade in anticipation of the sun getting hotter... or even getting colder.

We should have a war on nature, because if we don't it is she that is going to destroy civilisation as we know it.

I think we're already at war with the planet, The planet will win. It will be here long after we've gone, maybe scorched a bit, but still here absorbing all the radiation and getting along fine with the cockroaches!

YOU ARE NATURE YOU GOOF BALL... we are all NATURE...

SOme of us are butterflies, some are tigers and some are anal parasites..

As a human you can actually choose what function you play in nature...
Anal worms or Blue whale.... you decide what your contribution will be.. BUT please KNOW these two things

1. we are all NATURE...
2. anal worms will probably be erradicated
