Yeah, that's why I recommended him. I liked the cut of his jib, but I haven't seen his bigger lights. Sounds pretty good. Expensive, but I like his electronic approach, which ensures longer life, and better surge defence.

He gives good advice, and I like the idea of trying one first. Plus, he'll work on them past warranty for a reasonable rate.

edit: Yeah, he's right about the wavelengths. IMHO

BudBaby- If you want to spend that kind of money, consider plasma lights.

If I were you, I'd just go with an array of Kessils on light movers. But buy them here and pay the shipping to the UK. Much cheaper. And there is no superior LED tech.

greners.com or ezhydroponics.com -(best prices I've seen.) edit: ezhydro doesn't sell them, now. It was somewhere else, I guess.

there is some good info just a few pages back on this thread.... maybe 5 or 10... if you get back to all the arguing than you went to far.

Vento- I'm using a magenta at the moment. I'm impressed, but have no pics, sorry.

I've been looking for an unbiased grow report, too. Maybe, youtube?

Ok, I like many others have done my due diligence research into LED lights and light sources for growing in general. Have come to the conclusion like many on this forum that LED and/or other future technologies with high efficiency, low heat generation and selective generation of light in the wavelengths plants need is the future that is rapidly becoming the present.

Sorting through the conventional LED panel lights is not all that hard. Comes down mainly to figuring out what components are being utilized, spectrums being used, intensity of individual diodes. angles of delivery and vetting the people you have to directly deal with at the company selling them.

Kessil adds another layer of complexity with Their unique design so I have a couple of questions for knowledgable forum members and kessil directly. First one is rather blunt. How can you justify the cost of your product for the average Joe? Joe appreciates your technology and how efficient your focused beam of light can be but can get way more photons in the correct wavelengths from companies using first rate 2 and 3 W US made diodes. 2 of these panels give the same or better primary coverage than 6 or more of yours if you are talking a 4x6 field just for example.

Natural next question is how quickly will you drop your prices closer to parity with competition so Joe can justify spending say twice as much for your lights as the credible competition? Currently I have it calculated at 4 to 6X expensive. Joe has a hard time with that and does not have the cash in hand even if he is ready to pull the trigger in his mind.

Next question is what do you have coming out soon and can you give us a brief preview? Smart Joes are reasonably patient if they have a workable lighting good enough to tide them over to new technology.

Personal opinion of this Joe is that your product is superior on it's own but not yet price competitive with the best LED competition for my purposes. Lucky for you most of the LED competition is pretty weak. Still, I want to use your product as my primary light source. Short of offering me beta test units(LOL)what information or actions can you take to get me to spend a whole lot of $ on your product in the immediate future?

I'm no Kessil expert, but I was spurred into trying one by my situation. Haven't yet fully grown with my first go at it, but I am truly imressed so far. I had my doubts, but the way it looks, I'd rather have 2 Kessils rather than $500 spent on another LED platform. The warranty seems solid, the company is professional and responsive, and the technology just plain soars above the competition.

My first consideration was the smaller Lumigrow, for about $565. That and Procyon, Lightblaze, ProGrow and a few others were on my list, and they probably perform well and deserve consideration. Given my experience so far, if I need to expand, it will be with additional Kessils and light movers. In addition to the technology, I like the idea of not having too much tied up in one light in case it goes down for some reason.

This isn't to disparage other lights, it's just my opinion, and I'm pretty jazzed by all the advancements in LED by everyone. The one thing that disturbs me is the bad legacy of early generation LED tech. It's no wonder so many refuse to believe in the abilities of LED technology today. Plus, there is still plenty to watch out for...so be careful before you spend too much unnecessarily, or unwisely.

i agree with a lot of this but if it was me what i would do instead of using Kessil as your primary use it as a supplemental i think you said you had a black star panel longranger the 240w ones cover a 2x3 footprint if you buy two kessil magnetas and throw it in there with that 240w panel you will probably have say equivalent to a 1000w HID but without heat and also using much more of the light than when you use standard HID. I agree that kessil is still a little expensive that is why i said use their lights in concert with something proven reliable and good that is the same price but covers a larger area. Now that being said the difference is not that large the blackstar 240w panel covers 1sq ft more than the kessil h150 does. I wish i had the money right now for 4 kessil. I dont like light movers, too many moving parts i like stationary things. Light movers are simple enough that you can build your own for very cheap i just dont want to deal with it so for me that makes me have to purchase more lights and that is my perogative. Not good for your pocket book but good for simplicity and i like my stuff simple.

Kessil is where its at, maybe if we start buyin enough of em we can get a discount, maybe we should set up a group buy from kessil or somthing and we could get a fatty discount on the lights if we got enough people together ready to purchase at the same time.

KaptKron- After reading Hobbes' info on chloroplasts' response to varying intensities of lights, as opposed to a steady light source, I'm sold on the idea of moving lights in a big enough environment. Until I found this out, my thinking was virtually identical to yours. Keeping it simple is the way I prefer, but I want to maximize potential, and if the lights need to move to do it, so be it.

BTW I'm on a 24/0 cycle, with my Kessil on a timer of 45 min on and 15 off...for a cooldown. I wonder if this will similarly effect the chloroplasts?

I have a little low watt white led on constantly.

I dont know man i've never really put a lot of stock into hobbes opinions his writing is too confusing for me to read and i think that is why plus i already knew a lot of the stuff i was reading in a couple hundred page thread so i just gave up lol, if its easy to read link me to it so i can read it.

I am indeed hoping that prices come down on the current kessils or that their next generation is more light for about the same $. My two 240 watt blackstars in combination with my single older 300 watt led should get the job done for the next grow or two. After that it is summer season and then my emphasis is outdoors. So for 4 months or so I can follow the evolution and keep my eyes peeled for bargains.

Viagro and Kaptain Kron I truly appreciate your well informed opinions and will continue to follow this thread. Will also post my current grow which is just started from seed 12/4. Will post soon as the seedlings go from flouros to LEDs. Was supposed to be today but weather did not cooperate.

Longranger- You're welcome. Looking forward to seeing your grow, and it sounds like you've got plenty good enough lighting for a long time to come.

I noticed the price on Kessils dropped to $239.95 at greners, but you are well enough equipped...unless you just wanted a blue one for vegging.

Cheers.

KaptK- He was referencing material that I believe he used in his ebook. You can find it, I don't have the link.

Or just google chloroplasts. There's plenty of references to their performance as organelles. The constant light aspect might be a bit esoteric and require some digging. Why not ask Hobbes for his source? If you have no luck, I'll look it up, but too busy at the moment.

i wont ask hobbes because hes lost it and on a crusade right now sad all the guy talks about now is gobbelty gook makes no sense half the time hes not the same guy he used to be. That and hes not answering questions anymore really.

I know he's wigged out, but his link to his ebook is on his sig. He might answer your question, anyway. Nothing to lose.
