Going from HPS to LED. Worth it?

i am buying a led light today . i will let you know how it compares to mh for veg and compare it to hps .flower . in 2 weeks ill make a new thread . i am very picky grower there is not 1 piece of junk in my rooms even the plant markers are the better ones costs 3 times as much lol . the led will be cheap one though 220 bucks not dropping 1800 on a light thats stupid have to wait 5 years for a actual savings .

Don't bother buying cheap led, wait till you can afford cobs like cree cxb3590 ... there are some cheaper decent options coming out though like citizens and another Vero coming out too. I'm a bit out of the loop...

I can tell u my vero29 are great and u could probably find those for much cheaper.

So far I'm liking the mix of 3500k and 4000k for flower, if u can only afford one and want to use for veg and flower I'd buy 4000k.

It looks like you will have your first piece of junk later today. One harvest from my 4x4 DIY COB will pay for the light itself, less electric per month, it'll pay my electric bill for the time I'm growing and it will provide me with free weed for 4 months. So after my first harvest I'll be profitable with the light. It's a no brainer sir.

I am growing in a 5X5 tent with an led from Platinum LED. I used to use HPS.

In my experience, HPS yields more for sure. However, with the LED, the buds are much higher quality. Also, the energy use is almost nothing with LED, vs HPS.

So, ask yourself... "Do I want to grow higher quality buds? Or, do I want the greatest yield?".

Note: this is in no way trashing the quality of buds from HPS at all. It is just my humble opinion that the buds from my LEDs are better quality medication.

Everyone can say HPS is better, or LED is better. But, the fact is that you have to pick the right light for you. The right light for your growing space?

It never hurts to go outside the box and try new things... You'll always learn something.

In a 5X5 you could certainly run both the LED and HPS and see a side by side grow. Then, decide what is best for you.

Except you'll realize when using COBs that HPS doesn't yield more. It's just the LED panel that can't match the HID. COBs can.

It may be the most shitty light on earth . From all the information I can find in 4 days reading bored at work. I really still don't know the differences in cheap he higher priced led lights like kind led. only 3 watt. cob led and California light works 5 watt led cob. The cheap china no brand is 5 watt led. cob. I have to see for my self. . If its total junk I'll sell it on Craig's list get my money back in 2 days . Its all fun. Only money spend on it who cares. It could be trash . I read so many reviews all mixed even on led that coated 1800 people saying there trash . And people comparing 200 led to kind led and buying more 200 led . So idk what's up soon to find out m

yeppers one plant in a 3X3 tent by one of my students and yes the strain is my CTF. I've been tryin to teach folks the truth about light for many years,,,, a few have listened 8)

In my place I run 6 set up's. If I use 600w hps in 2 of them, the ambient air temps become borderline too hot, in the whole place, even with every widow open, so could not run 6 set up's. I use a combination of hps, led, metal halide and cmh/lec. Simply it would be impossible to run 6 x 600w lamps, 1 in each set up. I can run 6 set up's because I use alternate lighting too like led, therefore I can yield more than just hps because I use led too. Using cool running leds creates double the growing area, before the ambient air temps get too hot to add more.

Even a decent hps growers 'that won't go without their hps in flowering' loves the way a plant veg's under led. They get bigger yields flowering with their hps, if they veg with led, as opposed to vegging with hps! Tighter nodes, no stretchy spindly plants.

Imo any hps grower grower that claims hps grows better quality bud than led does, is spealing verbal diarrhea out their face onto their keyboard! By making this claim you are proving you know fuck all about leds and haven't used one before!

I think the same can be said vice versa, leds do not make better buds than hps. Sounds like you need a better HVAC system in your grow room.

No I just go with fresh air from outside. I live in the UK and it's much easier to grow here than hot countries. Where as some people may think it's worth using 6 x 600w lamps, then adding 2000w of air con + 100's of watts in more fans + the extra noise the fans make getting rid of the heat, I think that is ridiculous using that much. I use just enough before my place gets too hot. I run 6 set up's on under 3000w total. 1000w of that only turns on between midnight and 7am when my electric is 1/3 of the day price. I get loads of weed back for the small outlay on electricity.

I have used led and hps and haven't come close to the quality of led bud from any hps grow. Cmh is also much better than hps for quality. Cmh is quite similar to cob in thee way the plants grow.

This was based on Availability. In my country there's no commercial COB Panel using CREE chips available, so I will have to order DIY kits from timber and the shipping + mounting will take at least a month and waiting a month is too much, a full grow takes 3-4 months and 1 month wait means 25% less product on the big picture.

Money isn't a problem and I really would love to try some new tech.

I use LEDs and HPS and don't notice any difference in quality.

Both got a 4x cxa 2590 cob fixture and several prefab area 51 lights and blurple lights, don't bother with the blurple anymore but I do use the cob fixture and area 51 lights to cover a 4x4 grow lab tent. Been using the area 51 lights about 2-3 years and the blurple ones I have had 3+ years.
