Few questions:
1.) What do you think of "emilys garden" as a starter for my fridge grow? I would use it for flowering.
I have an aquarium that im going to use for vegging.
2.) Its snowing here and really cold. The fridge is inside the garage, and the temp inside the fridge is 54 degrees F (300 watt HPS light, w/ 2 75 watt flouros is on!!) I have a 6in fan as an exhaust on top and a 4in fan for intake on the bottom ( blowing cold air inside) Will a portable heater fix this issue, if I just put it next to my intake?
3.) Getting clones soon from a cannabis club. How long until I can start flowering it. Do most clubs sell "teens" by any chance? Should I call around and see who has them?
4.) TIPS? TIPS? TIPS? First time growing!
5.) Also...can you link me to a site where it explains how to transoplant clones to a hydroponic system. Is it easy?
THANKS MAN. I Appreciate it.
hey bro... hows it going??
1) i check out the emily's garden hydro system.. for a small grow it would be perfect... what are you using for lighting??
2) that i would do to for the fridge is to remove the 4" intake fan and just let the air be pulled in passively from the exhaust.. by this i mean, as the exhaust pulls the air out, new fresh air will get pulled in from the bottom to make up for what was pulled out... you may want to cut the hole size down a little to so that its not a 4" hole.. also putting the exhaust fan on a timer would help.. that way some heat can build up and warm it up but it still gets exhausted when the timer pops on.. something like 30 on, 15 off... something in that area... it'd take some playing.. but those 2 suggestions would help keep the temps up a little in the cold... my concern with putting the heater next to it to pull that warm air in is that air itself might be too warm and dry your plants out while the air is pushed through them... if that makes sense...
3) as far as i know clones from clubs are ready to flower from the get go.. once a clone is taken from a plant and roots it can be flowered then.... no veg time needed... i dont know the rules of clubs tho.. so i couldnt tell you if there is an age limit... but i'd assume 18 probably... and you'd need a med. card...
4) tips?? there are sooo many... dont over water.. dont over nute.. dont out grow your light.. but from the sound of it you wont have to worry about the last one... the first two are the biggest new grower mistakes tho... anything else that may come up ill be happy to help along the way!!
5) clones into a hydro system are easy... here's how i do it... i fill about 1/4 to 1/3 of the grow site with whatever medium i am using... (hydroton or coco coir are my prefered types)... then i take the clone and pretty much hold it so the base of the stem is just under where i want the top of my medium line to be.. basically so the stem is just burried slightly.. then i gently back fill the sites, being careful and gentle not to smash the roots or jostle them around to much... thats it... its just like doing it in dirt.. except its hydro...
glad to help!! let me know if there is anything else i can help with..
Ok, this is what I'm going to try to do. I have a 10 gal aquarium with 2 10watt fluorescent lights in the hood, they are full spectrum lights. I'm going to block out all other light. Do I need to rig it so that the plants are close to the lights as they grow? I'm going to use professional seed starter mix that is ph balanced with lime put out by Plantation products it has vermiculite, perlite, sphagnum peat, and a wetting agent whatever that is. There are slots cut into the aquarium hood for ventilation. I'm just using bag seeds because this is all experimental. I have some bloom burst plant food that is suppose to be good for root development as well as for blooms later on its a 10-52-10 mix. Not sure if that's good or not. I'm going to have about 18 plants or so started, I'm not sure how many will be female or male out of 18 seeds but I think I have a good chance of about 3 or 4 females possibly. I was wondering how tall do they have to be before you start trying to flower them? I know you have to do a 12/12 cycle of light for it but is it possible to have like short budding plants? Maybe like dwarf plants? I stretched the last plants because I didn't have the right kind of lighting to make the plants vegetate right they got to be about 2 1/2 to 3 inches tall with only 4 leaves on them. I'm not wanting like huge tall plants because I'm only really wanting to make sure I always have bud and maybe be able to sell a little to improve my set up. I have a few of those large rubber-maid tubs that I was thinking of making into grow type tanks when I get electricity hooked up to my shed and then I could start trying to grow some taller plants but do you think this is a viable plan to start out with? I've already started germinating the seeds for the first part of my project so I guess my questions are this:
1. Will the aquarium plan work? and if not what should I do?
2. How tall do the plants have to be before you can start on the flowering stage?
3. And finally am I just wasting my time trying to do this or should I go for it?
There is no real good bud and no real connections in my area for getting it regularly and I'm on disability so I don't really have a lot of finances to put into this at the moment so I'm hoping this can work out and that it won't be a waste of time and such
alright brotha.... so there are a few things i am a little worried about...
the aquarium is a fine idea.. but 20w's of floro lighting is far from enough... if you can add anymore lighting to the mix that would help you out a LOT.. but if not, then just keep the lights on top of the plants... i mean literally as close as they can be.. even if the plants grow into the floros they wont put off enough heat to burn them for a long time.. so you'd catch it before then...
blocking out the outside light is a good call tho...
out of 18 girls you should get at least 10 females.. i usually get about a 75% female to 25% male ratio with mixed seeds... what are you growing them in?? like are you doing individual cups for them so you can remove the males easily?? if not there is a good chance the roots will grow together and you'll have a hard time seperating them...
you can start the seeds off at 12/12 to keep them short.. you dont really have to veg at all.. they wont reach their full maturity... which means they wont be as potent or yield as much as they could if they did.. but it takes about 4 to 6 weeks of vegging to get to that point.. so you wouldnt have the space anyways..
i wouldnt say your wasting your time... i wouldnt say your not wasting your time either... its somewhat of a coin flip.. obviously you arent going to have a giant grow... but like you said its more of an experiment.. the only way you'll be wasting your time really is if you dont learn anything along the way.... you'll get a little harvest for sure.. which is better than nothing.. but it wont be the pounds and pounds we all have dreams about..
you said your short on funds do to your disability pay... you also said you had some plastic totes... well when you get your shed hooked up and ready you can do a REALLY productive hydro style grow called a DWC system really cheap.. its pretty much a tote, a lid, a net pot, a couple air stones, water, nutes, and light.. its about as cheap as you can get.. and the results are fantastic... if you want more info on it i'd be happy to fill you in more.. just let me know...
