General Mother hunting strategy

It doesn't matter if your mothers are from seed or clone. Whatever fits your schedule and workflow is what's most important. I keep everything small, and cycle moms from fresh cuts regularly.

The quickest way to hunt a pack of seeds will be to take cuts from the seed plants (your first top cut is ideal), and flower the seed plants. Speed is way more important to me than if mom was from seed or cut.

that sounds like a great strategy.

I just bought some reg seeds, so I am thinking I will shoot to germinate 6 plants/2 strains, maybe keep them to 1 gallon pots in my 4 by 4 till large enough to get at least 2 starts from each. (mebbe 6wks)

flip, kill any males and their cuttings. Hope for one girl of each strain. (1wk)

Let the girls from seed end their life, get dried and cure it long enough to get a general idea of what you have grown.. (7wks+2-3wks)

Meanwhile in the 2 by 4 we have, lets say paired down to the 6 or so best clones, 3 of each strain for say 8 weeks, uppotting from solo cups to 1 gallon bags before they get rootbound.

Smoke test them, cull or flip the 5 non-keepers for this project. grow out mom in the 2x2, then start propagating daughters as the 5 non keepers finish.

Anything I am overlooking? any pitfalls I might not be anticipating?

Gracias.

For 12 seeds

1. Germinate, veg until you can take a decent sized top cut
2. Move the top cuts immediately into cups of water, and put into flower tent to sex
3. Continue to veg seed-plants until desired size for flowering
--By this time you should know who's male/female from the cuts you took and put into water--
4. Cull males
5. Take another round of cuts from your females. These will be your new "mothers". Get these rooted using your preferred method.
6. Flower out & harvest your mature from-seed-plants
7. Smoke em up & make your selections

Sorry, for clarification, step 5, am I taking cuts of the girls in flower, or the first round of clones? I am assuming the later, but I wanted to remove all doubt. Danke.

Yeah, take cuts from the mature, from-seed-plants right before you move them into the flower tent. These are the cuts you'll want to root, and will become your mother plants.

The first cuts (the top cuts) you're just going to stick into cups of water and put them under 12/12 to determine sex. You don't need to root these, and they'd have to re-veg if you did.. so I just toss these once I know sex.
