First Grow 400W HPS/MH in 3 x 3 tent.

Okay did some much need work that I've been neglecting.

1. Mixed up some new soil

I've been using Sunshine Mix #4 which is a soil-less medium.

As per a recipe I found and marked in my journal from this site I doctored up my own recipe with what I had on hand.

I only have access to 5 gallon drums to mix in so I made 4 gallons at a time. (to make mixing easier)

1. Add approximately 3 gallons of Sunshine Mix
2. 1 litre (approx 1/4 gallon) of worm castings
3. 4 tbs of Blood Meal 12-0-0
4. 8 tbs of Bone Meal 4-10-0
5. 1/2 cup of Hi-P bat guano 0-15-1
6. 4 tbs of dolomitic lime (recipe calls for powdered, I only had access to pellets)
7. 8 tbs of kelp meal (1-1-2)

Top up with sunshine Mix #4 and mixed well to make 4 to 4.5 gallons

Did this x3! with a few breaks...... :joint:

**EDIT** I also watered with a mixture of GO BioThrive Grow, BioRoot, Black Diamond and BioWeed and let it sit for a few hours. This will provide some humic acids, Liginite and other things that I may be missing from my dry ingredients. Not perfect but the best with what I have.

Because I was using this soil to transplant with I'm not too worried about giving it time for the microbes to build up populations.
This is probably a mistake but I didn't have the luxury of having some of this pre-made. Another lesson learned. Fail to plan. Plan to fail.

I think your right its probaby a mag defiency, hopefully it gets better quick. I don't think its phosphorous deficiency as the leaves turn a dark purplish ugly colour with P deficiency, but pottassium can look similar. Think you got it with the Cal-Mag though

did you know I was running my plants at 1600ppms! And they are only in veg lol. I didnt know about it but got it fixed back down to 1000ppm, they are still looking sweet though, just a bit of burn on some leaves.

I'm liking the detailed updates, I'll wait a few more days before my next one so that you can see the transformation thats happening with my plants, did some LST"ish" like training to my plants that is looking really good.

Looking really good Ottawa, I'm jealous you actually have plants in flower... all I got is these damn vegetables lol

So I finally got my clones and rootbound lettuces transplanted today. Feels good to have these taking off so fast.

I've been abusing my clones so I hope they are forgiving to me. One died but these other two had decent looking root systems on them when I transplanted.

Arugula is together with some spinach (LEFT FRONT) and my 4 lettuces (MIDDLE BACK) have all joined up in one big pot.

My strongest clone went into a 3 gallon pot (RIGHT) and my weaker clone into that little red pot (1 Gallon?).

Other Plants are: LEFT BACK: BASIL MIDDLE MIDDLE: Sweet Pea and MMJ MIDDLE FRONT: Pepper, Sage and Chive seedlings

Of course all these plants got a root dusting with a myco product (Myke brand):

That looks like a great product. Is it liquid or powder? just curious how you are using it as I'm new to all this stuff. My Myco product is in a powder with a peat like mixture.

Fantastic update bro. Hope the girls get out of their deficiency! 7.0 PH? Didn't you have a low PH issue earlier? Maybe that's another journal...I'm too lazy to go back and look. Buds looking yummy though!

I didn't have a pH meter previously.. thought I may have had a pH issue and added a little dolomite to my soil when transplanting as a buffer.

Learning as I go.. learning as I go..

I find I learn a lot from my mistakes. Hopefully that new soil mix will take me through to harvest for round 2 with just light feedings and some molassess/carbs in flowering

Only one thing to report for tonight.

A while ago (don't think I made a post about it) a guy at my local hydro store asked me to show him photos of my tent setup, lights, carbon filter, etc (which I had on my phone)

when i showed him my AC hood he asked me what my temps were and when I told him 72-75 lights on and 60 lights off he freaked out and told me I had to get temps waaay up because I was missing out on growth.

Like an idiot I listened to him. (or at least I think I was being an idiot) Since then I've had to raise the light because of higher temps and now I've had my issues with the flowers and deficiencies.

So now my AC hood is back sealed and nice and cool.. bottom of glass is tolerable with the back of my hand on it and its nice and close to my canopy. Temps are back down to 74 but I've got the humidity a bit higher too. (thanks @grand-PP for the help in your grow journal... good sounding board which made me realize that I'm sacrificing other more important things just to get the temps up a few degrees.. not worth it!!!) If anyone who is reading this hasn't checked out grandpappy purps grow check out the link in his signature he's doing amazing things!

Hopefully I've got the Mg+ thing solved and I start to see some serious bulking up from here on in...:bigjoint:

Quick update:

Found out that the city uses chloramine in the drinking water.. damn..

So I went out and bought some aquarium drops. They are a sodium salt base but it takes less than 1 ml to dechlorinate 10 gallons of water so I'll be putting a drop in ever 2.5 gallons that I water with from now on..

It contains Sodium thiosulfate (Na2S2O3). This apparently will break down chlorine from Chloramine (NH2Cl) but release Ammonium NH4+. I'm thinking that because Mary Jane likes Ammonium I'm simply adding some N to my water solution.

If anyone sees a flaw in this logic please let me know.

Hope all is turning out well wit ur problems ova there im glad u got a new soil mix too :lol: that should help u out too for the future its all jus one big learning lyfestyle ha ha i like that a learning lyfestyle :lol: and were both livin it bro itll come together and i cant wait for that black domina.

Wish there was a jealous button id klick it right about NOW.. :lol: wish i coulda got querkle but we both know the story behind that 30 is a good number not for age but great for beans.

Just read through your journal and what a nice one it is! You've got some solid organic gardening principals at work for you here. Thinking about starting a living mulch/companion plant? Both lettuce and clover do that very well...

It sure was a good read. Wish I would've read it BEFORE I started this grow.

I don't know about companion plants however..

are you able to share some info or a link?

I have 4 different kinds of lettuce and 2 batches of arugula going right now that I could throw into a bin..

Oh and thank you very much for the compliments on the grow.. I'll have to have a read through yours...

I hear you on reading that book before growing, definitely would've helped.

As far as companion plants go, the idea is to expand mychorrizal connections throughout the growing medium. One step further a "living mulch" (like clover) does a couple different things: 1. creates a mass of mychorrizal connections at the most oxygen rich top 3" of soil 2. provides a literal "mulch", improving water retention 3. is highly resistant to trimming, allowing "chop and drop" type feeding. Also, clover functions as a hardy nitrogen fixer in the right environment.

I would be more than happy to provide a link to some further reading but i'm not sure of RIU's policy on other sites of this nature. ...So i'll PM it to you 8)

Thanks a million.. just spent over an hour reading! Also ordered some White Dutch Clover seeds.. was thinking about doing clover on my lawn anyway in the spring.. everything I have read now just reinforces that fact.
