This layered soil method has been awesome so far. All I do is ph tap water (after letting it dechlorinate) and manage tent temp/humidity and DLI. Day 14 and they seem to be doing what they should - grow!

The droopy leaves on the left solo cup is because it needed water and has since perked up.

Looking fine. Just keep an eye out when they start flowering. I swear i havent hardly ever had any issues at all until about week 2-3 of flower. When I was reactive, all hell broke loose and it was basically too late to fix things. I love using these dry amendments cause i can basically avoid chasing my arse. Add the calmag occasionally too and you wont have any deficiency problems.

No really owe it to you my friend. Your amendment recipe on FFOF is the easiest way to run. If KISS (keep it simple stupid) . If you don't have results doing this, maybe, just maybe, growing is not for you. Fox Farms should be asking you to do some advertising. Thanks again!

So when should I be planning on topdressing with dry amendments? I have Recipe 420 recharge (6-8-4) and their ultra bloom (2-8-8) at the ready.

I always let the medium do the feeding upfront … less chance of doing something stupid :bigjoint:
I moved away from #1 / #2 size perlite and prefer #3 coarse ( similar to bagged pumice size ). But if that is all you can source , the regular is fine.
I suggest shopping around for perlite pricing - my local nursery charges $40 bucks for 2 cu. ft. ( insane ). Went to a “ hydro store “ bought #3 size ( 2 cu ft. ) for $18.

I really like that stuff - for my 3 gallons I add 2 tablespoons for VEG ( as a starting point ) scratching it in to top soil . Then water.
It will begin to supplement over a week or two depending how hungry of a gal you got.

Dr. Earth is another fine dry fertilizer ( home grown or premium gold ) - with Flower girl for bloom use.

Happy Frog Fruit and Flower is another but ( a bit stinky  )

Say NO to multi-bottle bullshit.

Yeah, what he said. I love the recharge but i got a super deal on the dr earth flower girl and so far its great. After they start throwing pistils i scratch in a qt cup or so and repeat every couple weeks. Calmag every other water and i dont do shit else. This method has definately given me good results and no more headaches from chasing ph. The weed tastes better too! Thankyou BB!

Not to mention, cost effective. Those snake oil bottles get expensive, look into the number of bottles Fox Farm line up runs. I quit the salt/bottles 4 or 5 grows ago. This is all I need, I'm about growing for myself and being able to hit a contest soil run every time is much more relaxing and in turn makes it lots more enjoyable.

I agree. This grow has been so much more pain in the ass free. 1 $5 bag of Dr. Earth and some calmag. Ive even mixed up my own el cheapo organic soil using $4 a bag local container mix and adding perlite, lime, epsom, mykos and a couple scoops of Dr Earth. Those are my little ones and they are doing good. Im trying to get away from FFOF because of cost. But yeah screw the bottled lines. Im more than happy scratching nutes in every couple weeks. I honestly seldom check ph anymore. My runoff is dead on 6.5 every damn time. Good enough for me.

UPDATE - finally :bigjoint:
Been a little busy with various grows and shit , but remembered that I need to keep this thread alive.

My layered mix has been working out very well without much effort. I have experimented on 2 clone ( forbidden zittlez ) plants that would normally get a topdress “ all the way thru “ but I decided to pull back the topdress after week 2 of flower and instead run Roots Organic Terp Tea ( scratched into top soil ).

I began using 1 tablespoon of Terp Tea bloom / scratched into the top soil ( actually working in instead of laying on top ).
Tap water only.

The early bud set is looking good with some frostiness showing up. Thick , deep fruit smells from them.

My layered mix of RECIPE 420 base soil / FFOF ( 10 % ) / EWC (10%) / Dynomyco / Perlite ( #3 size ) with FFOF topdress around week 5-6 of Veg.
I keep the Veg feed going thru flip , then switch nutes to bloom after stretch.

I have been playing around with some coco plants but will still grow using this layered mix as it is pretty cut and dry in use.

New Blood - KKP ( King Kong Poison ) x Purple Punch

Purple punch ( male ) from neighbor / cut branch. Pollen used on previous KKP plants I had with some tagged lower branches , main plant consumed , bottom branch seeds. The KKP plants that were used , were from a fem plant that had some lower branches treated with STS ( for pollen ) and plant self seeding.

I would grow these KKP S1 plants in some perpetual grows but occasionally use a little stored pollen I have on lower budsets.

Well , this a group of the Purple Punch experiment.

They were presoaked in bottled water for couple hours / then added to a rooter ( pre soaked in Clonex Gold / water )

Just a little update on the first all dry amendment run. This method is fkn awesome. Definately the healthiest auto run ive ever had. This is like setting the cruise control. I just water( RO or tap no ph ing) and scratch in some Flower Girl every other week. Only issue is gnats and i placed a top layer of sand in the containers after this pic yesterday. I gave my wife all the bottled nutes for her garden. Im done with that crap. The money saved can go to the gals at NASC. Good luck people, no more bottled bs makes a happy grow!
