Nothing is official at IC Rag. It's just another forum with a lot of newbie bullshit, witness your link.....and this recommendation - "The plants can be foliar feed at ½ teaspoon/quart of Epsom salts" Ridiculous. That will not only induce a toxic issue but severe leaf burn.

This guy's take on N toxicity looks more like the subject plant lost its root system to rot. The best take on elements, toxicity and deficiency, is in Mel Frank's book.

Since the subject of water quality has come up, see if you guys could work with my well water! (next page after this page) https://www.rollitup.org/marijuana-plant-problems/251235-stop-blaming-issues-ph-people-8.html
Well maybe his article isn't credible but I saw 3-4 other site that stated Cl,Ca and K reduce Mg uptake.

What was your feeding in hydro with foliage pro Homebrewer?
I veg with FP and Protekt at 0.7 EC, I don't love it as a stand-alone in flower as of now. I just haven't been able to get it to do as well as combos of grow + bloom in hydro. Plant health is great but the pH tends to want to drift up a bit after a few days and I think FP makes for more tedious trimming come harvest time in hydro.

Hey there HB. First wanted to thank you for all the info. 4th run with dyna gro and pro mix HP.... Plants have never looked better.

My question: I feel like I really have everything dialed in well using the grow, protekt, mag pro and bloom...... My store just started carrying "foliage pro"...... Would you recommend the switch? If so at what ratio?

Thanks to folks like Uncle Ben and Lumi, I'm now a big fan of foliage pro in promix from start to finish. Whatever EC your mixture is at now, those same levels using protekt and FP should give you even better results than you're already getting.

Awesome HB. You the man. Lumi! Ha haven't heard that name in a minute..."Namaste" lol

been using the grow start to finish with supplemented bloom and a touch of mag pro. .7 in veg and 1.0 -1.1 in flower. My grow is almost gone. Next round the foliage pro gets a shot in the line up. Thanks again man.

5 ml per gallon of FP doesn't seem to cut it for me in Pro Mix. I'm having to go up to about 10-12 ml per gallon. or maybe I am doing something wrong?

Yeah, you're frying the fragile root hairs with that much! Why do you think you need to push your plants? In any kind of soil less mix, if you have to go more than 2.5 ml/gal. as part of a regular maintenance drill, something's wrong.

I have been using Dyna-Gro long before it was even known or became popular with the cannabis crowd and the most I'd go on ANY plant material is 5 ml, usually 1/2 that, aka 1/2 tsp/gallon. And if and when I go 1 tsp aka 5 ml per gallon, I always use soft water like rainwater to insure I don't damage root hairs. My well water at a TDS of 840 ppm just doesn't cut it.

I think you've made the wrong call. You feel you have deficiencies when in fact you have induced toxicity issues or a nutrient antagonism issue. It's pretty common around here to do that.

hmmmm okay. well the ppm was at around 800. I'm using RO 0ppm water. the plants seemed to love it so I just wasn't sure. I'll do a good flush today and see how that goes

So I picked up some foliage pro and as of right now I am extremely frustrated with it. Using the grow and protekt in the proper ratios keep my PH PERFECT. I just threw out 3 nute mixes because I can't get anywhere NEAR the right PH with foliage pro. I had stopped having to use PH up or down so I have none on hand. Looks like the FP will sit on the shelf unless I'm missing something here :/

Heres a Sour Diesel fed nothing buy Foliage Pro @ 4 ml/gallon and Protekt at .25 ml/gallon. This was grown in a three gallon pot of Sunshine4 (very similar to Promix HP). I quit flushing and have noticed no ill effects. Big Thanks to Uncle Ben and Homebrewer for their hard work!

I don't quite understand what you're saying. Are you talking about your reservoir mixture? Are you mixing up food to feed your container plants?

Sorry. Should have been more clear. I mix my nutrients in a big tub to feed my container plants. The grow and protekt fed at .7 gives me between 6.3-6.5 PH effortlessly. When I mixed at .7 using foliage pro and protekt I was getting more like 7.4 PH:o

Is it possible that you want to use much less protekt with the FP?

do you add protekt first and then mix it up, clean the measuring cup and then do your cal-mag(if used) and then base nutes, followed by carbo load (if used)

protekt rises ph, so does cal-mag. the base nutes lower it and i'm not sure about carbo load.
i use very little of each and brings my 120 ppm tap water to 800 (max)
I end up using a little PH down to bring it to 5.8 because they're coco hempys (thus the extra cal-mag, if it was soil i wouldn't need it cause "fp" everything already in it

Absolutely. With RO water, I use 4 parts foliage pro, 1 part protekt. I got to that 4:1 ratio by adding FP to a gallon of water, then measuring the amount of protekt needed to put my pH in the low 6's. Now that I know what works, I add protekt first, then FP. I'd recommend you do some 'tests' on a small scale to see what ratio works for you. Maybe drops of plant food into 8 ounces of your water?

AH! Makes perfect sense. Will do. Was adding the SAME (more or less) ratios as i would with grow and protekt. thanks again!

and yes...Protekt always goes first @nizza

wait so, even for say, 10 foot plants, you still only do 5 ml? and if my ppm doesn't go above 800 what's the big deal D:
