Dirty Weed Proof of Concept

just a little update. tied down the main cola a little. included some pics of that and the growth on it. also a pic of my smallest bud on that plant. kind of cute at only about the size of my thumb nail.
:leaf::leaf::leaf:

Its a little funny that the plant that was sick from day one has so much more bud growth than the other one. ill post some pics of her tomorrow to show yall what I mean. Im guessing its from all the LST and being topped that it may be a couple weeks behind?!:wall::wall::wall:

I am guessing 3-4 weeks on this one. probably more on the other. gonna up the nutes a little bit, hopefully this gets some more bud development. also started mixing in a tablespoon of agave per half gallon. We only eat organic here and I cant find any of the molasses that is suggested. this stuff should be just as good?:?::o:?:

working on the cab a little today. cut four 3x5 inch slots in the bottom and running another temp test today. I cant really get my inline fan to exhaust in a straight line, but did angle the intake more towards the lights... so running temp tests now.

I went by the Gas Pipe here in Austin and saw some 150w HPS for $120. I was surprised by the size and the relatively low heat it produced. I think when I get some more money, and space, that I will invest in one of these and use the CFLs as side lighting.

just checked on my ol lady that I flushed and she doesnt look too worse for the wear. I posted a thread in the BUGS section about my gnat fly larvae but no responses yet. On another site it says that pyrethrin can be used with watering to kill the maggots. so I plan on using a pretty small dose in the watering tomorrow. Well see how it goes.

... and now the best part from The Thing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TevQS4qgE_Q&feature=player_embedded#!

edit:/ after about an hour temps are at 93. a bit lower than before the holes. I wonder if I wired my duct fan incorrectly. its almost like its blowing air both ways. I wish I knew more about electricity. Wiring up those PC fans just seems really hard to me.
I think 2 muffin fans side by side in the upper corner for exhaust, with a small fan blowing accross the light towrds the exhaust, and more passive intake. if you shimmed the whole cabinet up just a little bit, like a piece of cardboard folded, you whould have the whole bottom pulling in air. Lose that duct fan, they are worthless. I bought a 6" and they are not ment to exhaust, and the cfm on them is meaningless, and it is just too big for your cab, you could then put your light all the way up...

thanks dude. I put the duct fan on amazon the other day. im looking at muffin fans now. I found a couple prospects at radio shack and looking at ones online that are meant to cool entertainment centers. seems like my best bet. probably going to try the $10 ones I found at radioshack. if they dont work ill just return them/

just stumbled across this. http://www.frys.com/product/5525390?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG 72cfm @ 14 db is pretty legit. closest frys is about 30 minutes across town. Any of you know if this thermistor thing could be hooked up so that it controls two other fans?

found this one too. doesnt list the db level. but i bet its loud. thing looks scary. http://www.centrix-intl.com/details.asp?productid=729
sorry the thermistor will run a transister/mosfet it will nearly always be as close to the rated power as they are cheaper to manufacter, so if ya did it would blow up.

72cfm @ 14 db = 1400rpm x 120mm

the other fan,

3100rpm x 120 mm = CFM 110 @ 48 dB

so its 48db

its a relative scale

the same size fan will ONLY make more noise if it spins faster

If it spins faster it will move more air

The speed it spins and the noise it makes are on a relative scale

There for it makes no diffrence what fan you buy

Just buy the CHEAPEST 12v fan with the HIGHEST amps

with ya loads ya save get a dc transformer that plugs in the wall 5v-12v dc (a wallwort in usa)

Then you can have the maximum flow or minimum noise possable by just changin voltage

A PC fan is a PC fan it's any PC fan.

more air use two side by side or increase speed,
more pressure use two stacked bit more air aswell,

If ya still need more air, they run upto 18V with no problem.

but ya can get a bag full of e-bay for about £10 quid so use a few :-)

hope this helps ya understand?

thanks guys. I think I am going to go to Radioshack tomorrow and pick up a couple of the fans they have. I just realized I have to go out of town for a few days on the 21st and want to try to get this box finished. theyre $10 each but I think if i dont fuck up the wires ill be able to return them when I get back and order some decent cheap ones.

so the specs are 120mm
.38A
78cfm 2000RPM
21db

will a couple of these get it going? Im so fucking bad at math and even trying to understand what really works makes me feel retarded.

i found this website with a bunch of different types of fans on it. http://skycraftsurplus.com/fans.aspx if any of those stick out then ill get one. I see alot of people use squirrel fans but i dont know if those can be stacked. but still looking at this one http://www.centrix-intl.com/details.asp?productid=729 . wish i had a decibel meter. no idea how loud 48db is and if it would blow my stealth.

Im also looking on craigslist every day. Ever so often people will post their grow equipment for sale on there.

anyway. plants are sleeping now. they wake up in about an hour. see if anything looks different and post som pics.

If ya wana use a carbon filter stack em in 2's
thanks dude. Ill get these ordered. i wish my duct fan had worked. this guy builds boxes and has a pretty extensive how to on youtube. and his dresser cab uses one. http://buyagrowbox.com/dresser.html oh well. hes also using alot more light so maybe it wont be necessary.

hehe, looks like mine :-)

here is the fans, same as the ones we on about

oh and the reflector is a shiny baking tray $1 most efficient shape ya can get

i agree with what gann told you...But you should get:

Mylar - You can buy this at Walmart for two bucks. Its sold as Emergency Camping Blanket or something in the Camping section, little box. works lot better than foil.

If you are gonna go with the power strip screw in cfls later. I would suggest adding a y-splitter (~$3) to screw into the power strip light sockets, double the lights:bigjoint:

Other than that, looks decent. Good luck.

very nice dude. Very stealth. I plan on building another box over the summer as mines a little bulky. thanks for all the help. I owe you and everyone else, no joke.

I ordered 6 of those fans; at that price I figured better get enough to double up just in case. ill probably be bugging you when I get them to educate me on wiring them up.

I gave them both a flush. noticing a bit more than usual yellowing and tips burning. I guess its too much nutes or the cal mag lock out. I dont feel like im over doing it though. Im using a half gallon jug and a teaspoon of tigerbloom. oh well.
also re rigged the lights as the top on my untopped plant was getting burned. I am seeing a lot more crystals pop up on her though.

little worried because on my topped plant, I cant really tell any development over the last few weeks. Im sure shes getting bigger, but I just cant see it. shes still green and getting just as much water and light as the other. ill try to get some good pics of her soon. but there just isnt much to see. not sugar on her really, and hardly any smell on either one. Hopefully they still smoke well because ill be pretty disappointed if they taste like im smoking hay.

Ya doin well m8! keep it up and ya will have some nice smoke, they dont smell till the end then they STINK, lol :-)

ya might want to look at my thread for some ideas, https://www.rollitup.org/grow-room-design-setup/328081-10-grow-room-only-1-a.html
Its only a low tec laff but might help :-)

I would love to help ya wire em :-) have you got a dc power transformer to run em? If not this is what i would use, $9.49 it can run 12 of em! you can also adjust the voltage for sound/air flow
