Oddities...
Defoliating I pulled a couple of leaves off with a small bud on them.

I expected it to be right at the end, it's not.

A picture from after defoliating the canopy.
I tried to be as selective as possible I'd rather not be doing it tbh.

Air layering late in flower...

A back for uncertainty.

You can get by with a strip of plastic, cling film etc and a rock wool cube, moss, coco etc...the air layering ball is just convenient.
_20221111_131036.JPG
1st i put wire around the selected stem, wound it tightly enough that it digs into the stem but not completely cut off the supply, it's more about limiting flow not stopping it, there's quite a wide margin it doesn't need to be exact.
_20221111_131101.JPG
Above the wire i removed the 1st buds and also removed a slither of bark just below the bud sites.
_20221111_131006.JPG
I then put 3 root it sponges in the air layering ball put it around the stem and closed it.
_20221111_131154.JPG
I'd pre treated the root it with clonex.

It's circa 50 days in flower, lets see what happens?

50 days +/-

2 cheese dipz were flipped 10/14 days before the others they'll ready soon, i had to yo-yo the tallest of two last week, it should've been earlier but that's another story.

Over the week i harvested the cheese dipz_20221118_222223.JPG
The lower quarters.
_20221118_222327.JPG
_20221118_222246.JPG
The cheese dipz were flipped weeks ahead of the others hence harvesting them this week.

_20221117_021255.JPG
After harvesting and then a bit of re arranging, I was able to fit everything under the footprint of the light +/- 1"
Day #60 +/-
_20221118_215918.JPG
That = 44k/60k lux across the canopy @8/20" from the tallest to shortest tops @84% (619w)

Og kush, I've had to yo-yo each of the colas.

_20221118_223834.JPG
The 2.5ft of flat mylar reflector increases the light intensity quite significantly considering its cost, 5-7% in the center and 20/25% at that side, not surprisingly I've no hot spots, or none that the plants are showing.
i need to consider doing all the walls with flat mylar when I see the difference a simple reflector makes.

That's about it for now folks, thanks for stopping by.

Hey folks, I've been busy recently with other things.

There's not much been happening really I've only lowered ec over last week.

Some random pics from the grow...

Things are starting to wind down now overall they don't have long to go.

Take it easy folks :leaf:

Following up on the air layering, the site has a good sized basal formed but no roots yet :-(

I've scraped the basalt and gave it another application of clonex.

_20221126_155640.JPG
I've considered cutting it off to clone it but the reason I originally left it is the buds above it.
_20221126_160352.JPG
Naturally i don't want to cut it.

So why have you wrapped the branch with the bread tie? Are you planning on a revegging the plant once you harvest? Sorry if you have the answer buried further back in the thread.

Hey buddy, the tie is to limit the flow of sap, I'd tried it in the past but I couldn't get it to work without applying some kind of choke on the stem, idk what it is that does exactly but it'll usually root in 10/12 days.

I done this one the same day.

Then i intend to re veg it (the above)

Cheers!

Thanks for sharing that, I imagine its harder to do if the plant is flowering. I've yet to do clones of my own, planning on trying this go around, just in case I like the strain I'm running.

Hey buddy, if it's put on earlier it's a very reliable method, the biggest problem I've found is that usually we've removed the lighter airy buds, when it comes to re vegging they're the best for it, a denser nugget will still grow ime but it can take longer and there's a threat of mould on them.

For future reference if you need any help with cloning or any other subject i might know a bit about don't hesitate to ask.

Cheers!

Yeh hey, we have some roots.
_20221130_164421.JPG
It's way too early to cut off but I've few reasons to go ahead and cut it away and pot it up anyway.
_20221130_164449.JPG
Re vegging the full plant is a last resort, this'll save me time and space.
_20221130_164512.JPG
Let's see what happens?

I trimmed up the top bud and some bits and pieces I picked out of the bud to try and thin it down a little and avoid mould, i also left as much foliage as i could to encourage some transpiration.

It's drying now :bigjoint:

I love the air layering. I've tried it once but didn't get roots. I didn't use a wire tie to restrict the stem like that so I'll give that a try next time for sure. Those are some really healthy looking plants to be at the finish. You did a really nice job with them.

Thanks buddy i appreciate your comments.

I'd tried it many times before I got success, I'd get a bit of basal but i wouldn't sprout a root, i sometimes wonder if I'd just been more patient but that's life, if I bury a stem it'll root and it's not really any different?

I really can't remember how i arrived at choking the stem but that appears to be the key for clone like speed.

Fwiw if you ever need any help with it or anything else i might know about don't hesitate to ask.

Cheers bongsmilie

That’s awesome. I haven’t tried air layering myself, but it’s only a matter of time. I have to try it. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks buddy, here's the other plant from post #49 that was a vegging plant, it's a better example.

Hey folks the plants are moving along nicely still on 1.0ec/ph6.0.

Some plants are a bit further on than others but that's the nature of mixed crops, I'm actually looking forward to doing a mono crop to get a break from pheno hunting.

Here's a few updated pics, circa 80 days since flipping.

In the not too distant future I'm going to be removing a lots of leafs, only after I decide they're ready.

I tried it before on 1 plant and it appeared to colour up the lower more shaded buds so I'll see how it goes this time?

I'm not sure what my next crop is going to be but I've got plenty choices available.

I got 10mtr of flat mylar to line my tent with so I'm going to do that and a few other jobs before I get started again with another crop, that'll also give me time to test the plants that are currently growing.

It's getting down to 14-15c at nights where my reservoir is, it's at the point now that a pump isn't enough to take the chill of it.

I've a small auto fill reservoir with the inside the tent for the purpose of warming the nutrient after refilling but I'm feeding more plants than normal atm so some feeds aren't ideal.

I've put a heat matt around the outside of the reservoir and straps to hold it in place.
(i couldn't find suitable bungees)
_20221206_150230.JPG
_20221206_150153.JPG
I've plugged the heat matt into a controller and put the probe under the strap then put bubble mylar over both the matt and probe to insulate them.

I've set it to 18c that's high enough to feed directly and low enough that it can raise a few comfortably.

Take it easy folks bongsmilie
